ps3 or wii?!?

So I got my tax refund and need something to spend it on. I need to decide between these two systems, so figured i'd post for advice.

PS3 - I want to play FFXIII, but so far thats the only game ive seen that is at all interesting to me. Beyond that though, I know the PS3 is a superior technical system, is more readily available and has a greater potential for great games...

but.


Wii has at least 5 games i'm already interested in, Metroid's, SSBM, Zeldas etc... and of course is cheaper... but practically impossible to find, has no final fantasy, and is the lesser system.

any advice?

There's the answer.

And the ability to turn in your PS2/controllers to offset the cost, while still being able to play the games, is a plus. But get the 80, not the 40.

Si si this is el correcto.

My friend bought the Wii while I got the 80gb ps3. He doesnt play his Wii anymore, he said the novelty wore off pretty quick for him.
 
Buy the Wii. There's 5 games you want to play for Wii, vs. only 1 game for the PS3 that won't even be out until the end of the year. Unless you're seriously hankering for a blu-ray player, the Wii will clearly have more immediate and long-term benefits based on what you've said. The Wii will also get some SE titles, just maybe not a final fantasy; or they might make a 5th version of FFXIII and take it to the Wii. Plus, by the time the "novelty wears off" of the Wii, you'll have enough to buy a PS3 again or they might have come down in price.

Also, the 80GB PS3 is almost as rare as a Wii now a days, all stores pretty much only have the 40GB model in stock. Good luck finding a Wii though.
 
Tough call...
I got a Wii a while back from a family member on Ontario. Apparently when they first game out, nobody wanted one there - so it was easy to grab. The games are pretty good (Zelda, Metroid, Mario Galaxy).

I'm with you though, I want to play FFXIII, and the only way that will happen is with a PS3. Plus, it's a blue-ray player - so you can watch all those rental/purchased movies in hi-def now, with the winner of the standard format war.
 
Wii. Its got alot of good games on it right now.

PS3 is great, and it has a few great games, but even better games are coming later this year like MGS4.
 
What about buying a 40gig or something small like it and simply putting in a bigger HDD?
 
I think their main concern with the 40GB PS3 is the lack of PS2 reverse compatibility and not the amount of HDD space. If you plan to keep your PS2 (or don't have/care about PS2 games) then there's no problem with getting the 40GB and putting in a bigger hard drive.
 
The HD isn't really the issue, its the backwards compatibility. The 80 gig isn't 100%, but its still better than the 0% you'd get from the 40gb. Plus the 80GB is a lot more shinny and we all know that ALONE is worth the extra 100$.

Personally I'd say PS3 > Wii but thats because everyone I know got tired of there wiis after like a month. Plus although i wasn't into the blu ray at first, I know have 10 of em and buy more every time hot deals pop up. If FFXIII is honestly the only game you'd get for it though, its hard to say. Maybe the wii is a better deal for you.

For me and millions of gamers in the EU, we're being forced to get the 40gb model ;_;

Hence why I said Wii. The only difference between the stuff you get for the Wii is the virtual console games.

I haven't tried the online parts of the PS3 yet though because I STILL don't have any internet at home, not until the 28th. The good thing about both consoles is that they both feature free online gaming instead of Xbox LIVE's pay to play online gaming.

Edit: This also makes me think that Microsoft may be in trouble once the Wii and PS3 get to use the fullest potential of their respective technologies.
 
whore yourself out for more money and get both! :D
 
Here is my advice. Since the Wii has 5 titles out now, I say you get that. By the time XIII hits our shelves, dec. 08, or Q1 2009, you should have enough to get that if you put a little away every month, plus who's to say the PS3 won't have another price drop by then?
 
Anglis does make a good point, but the problem with that is that the PS3s that play PS2 and PS1 are coming in short supply cause Sony is being.. stupid and releasing PS3s that don't have that handy dandy feature. So if you want a PS3 that has at least some backwards compatibility then you'd best buy now :|

Really it is a personal preference, you say Wii has 5 games you want but how about PS3? Are there any games in particular you'd enjoy now? If there are none and only some coming later well I dunno, prolly should really get the Wii first :P
 
Those 80gb PS3's are already rare. I haven't seen one in stores since Christmas pretty much.
 
Most stores don't carry the 80Gb anymore, so i would get the Wii.

Plus, there is supposed to be another $100 price drop on PS3 coming around june-ish. So if (really more like when) FFXIII gets pushed back there might be more reasons for you to get it.

This may cause a few heads to explode around the boards given some of my past posts, but I'd get the PS3. I like my Wii just fine and have no problems recommending it, but if you have a nice tax refund windfall burning a hole in your pocket, you may as well spring for the more expensive system now.

thats a good way to look at it. since this is a bonus, get the more expensive ps3 that way when you do go for a wii, the money that actually comes out of your pocket is much less.

the wii and ps3 are bad ass machines, but i think somthing else to consider is this
do you play games alone or with friends more often?
the ps3 excles at single player and online right now, where as the wii excels at games that are local multiplayer.
