Awhile back Crytech announced they were looking for PS3 programmers, on their website.

Now there is a rumor from PSW Magazine stating how they are sure Crysis will be on the PS3 possibly in 2008.

They also stated how Crysis will not be a PC to PS3 port. It's said they are going to implement new areas and weapons, and also include hints and extra storyline that will leave an opening for Crysis II.

When you think about it, it makes sense to make games that use the Crysis engine on the PS3, cause the PS3's CPU can handle the dynamics better than the latest quad core CPU's to date.

Graphically one would not expected Crysis on the PS3 to match the PC version, but if you understand the PS3's architecture you would know it's possible to mimic attributes the PS3's RSX cannot sustain.

There are various displays of the Cell/B.E. generating 3D visuals that use software rendering attributes in real time. I've also read how the Cell can donate some or all of it's processing to the GPU to fix things like Anti aliasing, and even apply assistance to the GPU for things usually left up to the GPU

In terms of visual performance in gaming, the PS3 version of Crysis should have a decent chance of looking as good as the PC version, since the CPU can assist as opposed to generating the entire scene as the above videos show case.

In terms of Memory the PS3 has 2 kinds.

- 256MB DDR3 @3.2 Ghz (Inferior RAM) - Dirty trick

- 256MB XDR @3.2 Ghz (Superior RAM) - True meaning

Just a Note on DDR3 and almost any other RAM in general: The faster the RAM, the more latency any system using it has to cope with.

DDR - The PS3's 256MB 3.2Ghz DDR Ram is inferior to the XboX360's 512Mb 800and change Mhz DDR. This is for multi platform games. When developers run out of memory on the PS3 version, they are forced to to do some crunching, on both versions of the game in order to get them to work the same on both consoles. That is a clevar way to piss on the competition, considering the developers are unwilling to spend more time and money to write exclusive software for the PS3's XDR RAM.

XDR - XDR RAM is the new stuff, it has a system that eliminates most latency and at 3.2 GHz, it achieves 25 GIGABYTES per second of memory. This is RAMBUS's patented technology that is licensed to only 4 companies one of which is Sony. Any game that exceeds DDR3 RAM performance on the PS3 is performing under the XDR RAM.

It's possible for the PS3 to use both types of RAM at the same time, but there is no reason to do that, unless a developer actually makes a game that can max that amount of memory.

When you look at it. the PS3 offering half the GDDR3 RAM with more latency than the X360. It does the X360 so much wrong on so many levels when it comes to Multi platform games. Microsoft might be crying rape on the inside. I wonder what the next XboX will be like, since it'll have to square off against the PS3 for at least 75% of it's life span. (Unless they decide to make it go 10 years.)

Crysis on the PS3 is an interesting ordeal. And it's likely Sony will work closely with Crytech to insure Crysis turns out sweet on the PS3. Sony does offer free assistance to developers making games on their systems. Any developer looking to use the Crysis Engine on a PS3 will be sure to look it up at the following Game Developers Conference.

Not sure if they released it yet, but Sony is to release a Free tool called Phyre Engine which is suppose to simplify game development for the PC and console, especially on the Multi core level.

Insomniac is also playing a role by being the first game developer to share their coding with other game developers. Steps like these is what's making game development on multi core processors easier to get into. By now it's shameful for a programmer to complain about difficulties in making these types of games to be extreme, as there are programmers pulling it off more and more.

Ok, Crytek did mention they would bring the engine to consoles almost 6 months ago. I guess it would be great if they can use it well. In all honesty tho why would you want to play Crysis so bad if not for the pc's graphics? I mean a new game for your system of choce is great i guess. But the visuals were the driving factor in Crysis. The game was not incredible. The visuals were incredible, gameplay was regular stuff. I guess what i really want to say is i cant get all excited about this because by the time any of this stuff is implamented there will be better options available. Unless they plan to rehaul the whole Crysis gameplay. Also on a side note... I have a beast of a pc and still cant run Crysis on high with great frame rate... Man what a beast...

PS. Using the engine on consoles for creative minds would be great. More Crysis games on consoles... No thanks... Farcry... ;;

It's more about system performance, horsepower and sophisticated methods to achieve graphics you see in Crysis for PC. Dynamics is not a problem. At this point in time, and probably for awhile to come, the Crysis Engine will be able to push harder on the PS3. Crysis being made for PS3 will do more than grant more people access to the game. It'll pave a road for new game development using this beautiful engine.

Osy I really dunno what your problem is with the Crysis gameplay, it's as good as any shooter I've played, and playing cat and mouse with the AI is absolutely great.

I didnt say it was bad. I kinda agreed with what you just said... I said it was regular. Same as every other FPS on the planet.
