I figured I'd put this here rather than the RPG board as it is more or less relating to both, but is generally concerned about the PS3.

http://www.petitiononline.com/ps31134/petition.html

This was started by PS3fanboy's site, they want more RPGs on the platform, and I'm pretty sure we want more too.

To: All RPG fans that own a Playstation 3

The Playstation 3 is lacking in RPGs, Sony needs to take care of their third party developers because they are the ones who pushed them to the top in previous years

If you would like to see more RPGs on Playstation 3, make your vote known. Only you can stop lack of RPG syndrome.

Sincerely,

The Undersigned

I'm #279. WE NEED MORE RPGs!

lol. it's not like Sony can do anything about it.

Biggest problem is PS3 has been tanking hard in Japan, which is where most of the major RPG devs really try to sell the product.

360 has very few RPGs as well but it has the Western developers backing it because of its PC esque devtools. PS3 will never get support from the same developers without a miracle.

You never know until you try.

Besides, right now, besides the remakes, the only good RPGs I can think of are Lost Odyssey for the 360 and Tales of Vesperia which is coming out later this year... for the 360.

I refuse to let something that grew up RPGs be pushed out by the console that brought us a mediocre, but stupidly popular shooter. (CoD4 ftw though).

Are you serious? Eternal Sonata is awesome. So is Mass Effect & Oblivion. Two Worlds.. not so much.

Those 2 were great.
Oblivion I only play on PC, and yeah Two Worlds was just... ugh.
I could only think of LO and ToV at the time.

Mass Effect is better on the PC :P and it seems oblivion is as well what with all the fun mods for it. Shame I didn't have a PC that could run it at the time so I got it for PS3 lol.

And ya, Online Petitions are lame...

we SHOULD have at least had one damn exclusive RPG out by now, White Knight's Story (or is it Chronicles? lol), but that's been slow... hopefully it'll be really good. Same with FFXIII (but the way FFs have been going, not holding my breath).

I think i will quote you every time you do something like this... I did it for ya in some other forum... Just trying to take your goggles off.

ME was released for 360 Nov. 07...
ME was released for the PC May 28, 08...

Now i realize you only said its better on the pc but you make too many remarks like this that i get annoyed with and have the right to remove your goggles... 7 months time to tweak a game for pc. I see no improvement other then the later detail loads on the 360... You wait 7 months and call that a better game? I say i have the better game because i beat it and ran through it 6 months before it came out on pc... When is the PS3 version released?

Anyways online petitions are dumb and wont effect anything.. Just look at the capcom one to stop DMC4 from hitting 360, worked out well eh? The devs working on PS3 must have something coming eventually... I also heard there are 2 more exclusive RPGs to be announced in a few days for 360, well see.

I never thought Mass Effect was very fun, to be honest. Have to say the same for Oblivian, which I really wanted to like but just wasn't that fun to me. Blue Dragon was a joke. Enchanted Arms wasn't worth finishing but is a little underrated, I mean... it's stupid, and it was obviously a lazy rush job, but it's fun to fight in it. I will hold off on judging Lost Odyssey, which I own but haven't started yet.

As for games being out for 1 system before the other. I have to say, I don't really give a damn. I have a backlog of games to play leading back to PS1. I have yet to finish Xenogears or even start Chronocross. I have Shadow of the Colossusm, Ico, Odon Sphere, Persona 3, Xenosaga 2/3, Suikoden 4/5 to actually go back and beat for the PS2. Then I have to consider one day beating Mass Effect, Oblivian and Enchanted Arms as well as a few PS3 games I haven't had time to beat before new games I wanted to play more came out.

So if I hear a game is delayed for 1 system or another, I could care less. Of course, if a game is exclusive, I'm gonna snatch it for whatever system as soon as it comes out. And Mass Effect, at the time it came out, was an "exclusive."

As for RPGs on the PS3, there's nothing but multiplatforms. The only exclusive is a semi RPG, Folklore. It's actually pretty good.

As for petitions, they are pointless. If you want people to make RPGs for PS3, buy RPGs for the PS3. PS3 needed better sales of Oblivian, Enchanted Arms and Folklore, even if the first 2 were ports, it had to show demand for the genre. Now don't get me wrong, Xbox 360 hasn't had good RPG sales either, but Microsoft is financing exclusive RPGs and Sony is resting its laurels on FF13 and White Knight Story, both of which ARE NOT HERE. The PS3 should have had at least 2 exclusive, traditional JRPGs out by now, published by Sony. They also should have had several PS1 RPGs on the PSN store. Also an RPG PSN game.

Either Sony has to foot the bill or owners need to buy product to motivate the publishers. Neither of which is happening. I'm sure after FF13 there will be plenty of exclusive RPGs, because RPG fans will then buy the system, but that's a long way off.

If a game comes out first for whatever system, i get it for that system unless there is a serious advantage to the later or game changing elements. Cleaning up a games visual lag after 7 months is so far from a "Superior" version...

Mass Effect was just about the best story i have wittnessed unfold in a video game.
Eternal Sonata was great and felt like instant classic.
Lost Odyssey was for me, in the top 5 RPGs i have played all time.
Oblivion was breakthrough in the new consoles for me, was just incredible with the size of that environment.
Blue Dragon had very bad fundamentals.
Enchanted Arms was just bad to me, traded the crap in for $20 like the same week i purchased it.

Oblivion was ok... story-wise it was interestnig.. but the damn world was repetative... the NPCs were pretty lame.. the battles got old... and the monsters all felt the same to me.. :| And Mass Effect on PC and more than the visual lag... at least from what I've read had more. I dunno, never played the 360 version long enough to compare it to the PC version :D

Edit: http://www.videogamer.com/features/article/28-05-2008-425-2.html

sounds like better on PC to me :P more than just the visual

I liked a lot about oblivian except the damn combat, which was kind of a deal breaker I have to say. Same goes for Mass Effect. I liked the engine, I liked the idea. I didn't enjoy fighting at all. I thought the story was pretty good, but you have to admit, the story standards for video games are pretty damn low. When you get one that they actually put some effort into and got good people to do it like Mass Effect and Heavenly Sword, it turns a fairly mediocre story that would be completely forgettable in a book or movie form into a huge freaking deal. Mass Effect story was good for a game, but the devs seriously needed to shut the fuck up about it. Claiming it was "Star Wars" quality made me think about how different the game and movie standards are for stories.

Not glorifying movies. There's a lot of crap that gets churned out there, and when it's not a game, just a damn movie, and it sucks, then it sucks a lot harder. However there's no game with a story as great as Star Wars. It would be like claiming Uncharted was as good as the original Indiana Jones, though it sure gives the 4th crappy movie a run for its money. Of course you're comparing a great game with a bad movie. Compare their stories with GOOD movies and you run into trouble.

Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land story > all other RPG stories.

Can you really call Mass Effect an RPG though? I mean, they do but that doesn't exactly make it one. Action Adventure, yeah. RPG, not even close in my book.

oh I missed that from Ossyris :P poor kid, never played Xenogears, Planescape: Torment and so many other great games with awesome stories that are just epic.

No your wrong. I did play both of those and in your opinion they are great stories. I can add my opinion of them both and get you all in an uproar. I believe when i said that about ME, i said, "To me". My opinion ass hat.

There is more to ME then some text you read in a bubble...
The reason the story was so great to me is because it was delivered so great. I have never been saturated with story in a game like i was with ME.

Fire i understand you here, and you are right. I should have the added "With stories in gaming so bad atm" to my ME comment.

Poor kid. You have never played any real RPG's have you?

like what hmm? I've played tons :P And those are good RPGs whose stories easily surpass any other RPG's story I've played yet.

It's funny you have a favorite RPG where its widely accepted that only half the game is actually good.
