Are there any RPG's out for the PS3? I can't think of anything that's even close to a release; let alone already out. All I ever hear coming out for it is action, FPS, racing and sports; never any RPG's.

I know there will be Disgaea 3, FFXIII, White Knight, and another Shin Megami Game, but none of those are close.

... erm...

Oblivion?

*checks wikipedia*

Eternal Sonata (Out Q2 2008), Folklore

thats all I can see so far.

Kinda disappointing =/

Enchanted Arms was another one, though it was basically just and x-box port.

Just found one in development, however the RPG part is an option you can select from the beginning:

Basically, you can choose FPS, RTS and RPG at the beginning. Interesting.

edit: Star ocean 4 in development too.

edit2: also Last remnant.

that's the problem :( tons of GREAT RPGs in the works, but nothing too much out right now. Folklore is cool but that's about it really for RPG (Oblivion is ok but I don't think it's that great tbh.. I get very bored with the gameplay specially cause fighting monsters is pointless)

Oblivion I'm sick of and I've played on 360/PC already, enchanted Arms I could just play on 360. Eternal Sonata I've heard is just a straight line, which kills a large portion of the RPG aspect. Folklore I lost interest in the demo's presentation style, but it might have picked up later.

All and all, really nothing there on the RPG front, that's about what I figured since I couldn't think of anything. That's a shame.

I'm still going through all the RPGs from the PS2 that I missed so having a break in releasing them hasn't hurt me much at all.

But yeah, all the RPGs are 08 releases, but they're all set to make up for it. Its almost like we gave up our 07 RPGs and packed all the awesome in with the 08 games.

This is true, and false.

There is no overworld map. All areas are linked together by a couple of paths. The story just has you follow the path for the most part, but on your second play through(In Encore Mode,) a portal that was previously inactive allows you to go from one city to any other city you've visited without having to run through garbage.

This is mostly just useful for getting all the score peices though.

However, you can just backtrack to any place if you feel the need to go there, so it's not like it's just a one-way road.

I'd recommend it, because it is fun. Not too long, though. I figure 25-30 hours on your first play(without doing the few side-quests that exist.) Longer on your second because enemies are harder without giving more experience, so you still level at the same rate, but with longer fights.

I probably wouldn't urge you to pay $60 for it on PS3 though, so grab it for $30 or whatever it's going for now on 360 like I did. The "bonus" stuff you won't miss, because it's largely cosmetic and you wouldn't get the extra characters until the end of the game anyway, because of how the story plays out.

White Knight Story and FF13 are the two biggest JRPGs coming out in my opinion. Lost Odyssey coming for the 360, must be out soon - it could be good for a fix and better than Blue Dragon but don't believe the delusional people saying it's FF quality before they even played it. Disgaea 3 is already out in Japan so it shouldn't be too far away from here.

Folklore is an action-rpg, kind of like a mix between pokemon and kingdom hearts, only not quite as good in practice as that might sound, but still pretty fun.

Wild Arms on the PSN store as well, for 5 bucks if you want. I might pick it up if I ever manage to play through all my backlog. I really need to stop buying games with so many I don't have time to beat.

Lost Odyssey is pretty good. The look of the first battle i think is really great, but they didn't try too hard with the section that i'm on. Pretty fun with how they make it turn based, but still put some of the control in your hands.

This is probably the closest to an FF RPG that we will get until FFXIII.

Im playing it and I believe it to be of Final Fantasy quality. It could have the deepest story out of any rpg i've ever seen.

Also, I agree with you. Blue Dragon was terrible. This game completely makes up for that crap. After playing Lost Odyssey, I'm shocked the same game company actually released a game like Blue Dragon.

they did it on purpose! D: to up the pwnsome feeling of Lost Odyssey they make a crappy game, and months later release a good one so that it seems even better!! :D

My feelings on the game are as such.

You can tell it was by the same people who did Blue Dragon, but you can also tell it was done by the same people that did Final Fantasy.
