Ok we all know that PSP is like one of the most advanced hand held pieces of technology on the market today. With a wide selection of games, Movies, MP3s etc. and at a resonable price you think the shelves would be empty after every shipment. Well after reading an article in this months Playstation Magazine it turns out that PSP hasn't been selling very well since its release in March. And in fact the Nintendo DS has done so much better than the PSP. Will this mark the start of the next Dream Cast or can Sony do something to beat the DS?

i highly doubt the DS is better. the psp can do so much more. problem is the cost. the DS costs like half of the psp.

The problems the PSP has is cost, lack of any platform-selling games, some of technical issues and a lack of a market. The PSP can do multiple things, but the problem is that a lot of the target market already has an MP3 player and they dont want to shell out another $250 for another MP3 player, even if it can do more than play MP3's.

Also, he didn't mention is that GBA is still owning them both in sales.

The PSP still hasn't (as far as I'm concerned) brought out that "killer app" which everyone wants. I think that may change when Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories hits shelves.

Also, Sony needs to give people options other than the deluxe package they offer now. Just sell people the unit with an AC adaptor and drop the price by about $50. Or offer a pack-in game. It's just too expensive, considering the DS is $100 cheaper and it's mostly parents paying for these things.

I bought the PSP at launch and got a few games, but mostly I watch movies on it while I'm having in-game fishing marathons. With a 1 GB card, encoding software and a halfway decent BitTorrent site, you can stay entertained for a long time.

I don't think Sony is likely to take the #1 spot in the handheld market anytime soon, but the competition will be good for Nintendo.

No i didn't, the article never mentioned GBA

Yeah, it's not so much that it sucks, but rather the fact that it's way expensive, not a huge library outside of UMD Movies, which are badly priced considering the DVD versions are $5-$10 cheaper. And it's ultralow battery life.

And like mentioned earlier, Sony's target market already has an MP3 player of some sort.

For games, the PSP is really lacking at the moment. The only game they have of any colectable value is Metal Gear Acid, and its not *that* great.
They need an RPG-style game, or a Final Fantasy game. Somthing like a new FF Tactics (that doesnt suck like Advance did), or perhaps a UMD of the PSone FF titles.

also, a bundle outside the "Gretsky Value pack" (because most hockey Video Games suck)

Blasphemy. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance was awesome. I loved that game and spent way too much time playing it. :P

There's a tactics-style game based on Lord of the Rings coming out later in the year, and you can play as the Fellowship or control Sauron's forces. I have high hopes for that one, especially if it has wireless multiplayer

1). No good games, not much of a range either, unless you like racing games.
2). Expensive as hell (especially if you want decent mem. sticks for music, etc)
3). Battery Life
4). I don't like the nub myself.
5). Majority of UMD movies are crappy.

DS has better battery life, a little less games, but most are still amazingly fun, it's cheap, and the touch screen leads to innovation, PC style games (RTS), and the triumphant return of puzzlers (meteos, Puyo Pop, etc.)

Oh yeah, and Mario Kart...DS...ONLINE. Animal Crossing also.

Not to menton, Nintendogs got a perfect reveiw in famitsu, and is selling in japan like Crack in the 90's.

i think it is just a step towards a better system. failure or not, progress will be made.

You're right already reserved it ^^.

As for the battery life, I'm imperesed with the 7 hours i get with the sound all the way up and brightness at max. I do believe that once better games come out (GTA or any good RPGs) and when the price drops, things will start to look better for the powerful little guy. It is Sony and I know they have it in them to make great games (my reason for sticking with them over nintendo).
It's a shame MGS: Acid sucked so damn much though. :(

Im not going to get it till there are better RPGs for it, and I dnt mean hack and slash. I mean turn based traditiolan RPGs. There arent any ; ;
and im not into GTA so I dont care about liberty stories.

...yeah, compared to the DS or the GBA:SP, when we have almost twice the battery life, its not impressive, at all, period. i think the PSP is great, but the only problem is the cost. i mean, i dont want to spend over 300$ more then the DS just for a PSP and a large memory stick. sorry if i offended anyone, but, its been said before, i'll say it again. nintendo not only leads the portable world, IT OWNS IT.

well the psp is a bit more powerful than the DS and 100 times better than a GBA:SP (graphic and sound wise)

With all that the PSP can handle the 7 hours is good i think.

Yes, but can it play amazing games like the DS? I think not!

Also, with a little help from Lik-sang, I can play movies/music on my DS for a lot cheaper than the PSP. Plus, I can emulate without worrying about frimware!

Muahahaha.

To add to the fun, Nintendo is cutting the price of the DS to prepare for the release of Nintendogs. I plan to buy that game when it comes out.

I'm not into the GTA games, either. I like watching Neyla play them, but that's about it. I'm still debating about buying the PSP version.

I love my Metal Gear Ac!d!

"Graah.. rerrrhggg.. Card Battle..."

i own almost every system out and i would say the PSP pwns the DS. sure the DS has mostly better games but the fact is they are 80% kiddy games and the PSP has the MP3 ability and a DVD player sure you need the new disks but still i would rather have something that has more uses and more games that are my age and not some kiddy games. As for the DS i like that it can play GBA games which i have ALOT of but it can't play GB games and i only use my DS for fire emblem ^^. But when the new nintendo evolution come out i will buy that for sure lol

well i didn't mean kiddy in a bad sense some of those games are good but some are JUST FOR KIDS and its not a good thing in a system they need to think about all the users of it.
