Public Transit Driver busted at the wheel!

It's been illegal for over a year now.

I loved the TTC's president saying 'we all could be sighted everyday doing something 'inappropriate'. Not illegal but inappropriate.

Oh jeez I thought I read in this thread that it wasn't illegal. Was kinda surprised but I was wrong.

@ Thelona, yea you're telling me. No surprise there. And apparently my speaking out isn't productive enough, so I suppose I should go starve myself on parliament hill in protest that they ENFORCE a law already in effect.

@ DW, I'd smack him too!

@Miros, I may have said something backwards, you know... being a canuckanuck and all >.>

Wait, driving and texting isn't illegal up there?

Depends of the province I guess. Until last year it was ok to drive around with a cell on-hand here in Quebec.

But yeah it piss me off when I see some heavy douchebags riding BMW/Mercedes (notice that normal people riding normal cars are more courteous?), cutting everyone, not using any signalization like they own the fucking world and talking on the phone at the same time. Sometimes I wish I had the guts to just wreck my car for the sake of personal revenge on them. /rant

I don't know about other major cities but I have to commute from Valleyfield to Montreal (that's 3h in a car per day for you..) on a daily basis so I tend to see that kind of driving behavior every morning and evening during rush hour.

On topic: I don't have any indulgence for that kind of people. Your job is bus driving. Your paid for taking people from point A to point B, your paid to ensure user's safety until their arrival. Use your cell phone/laptops/ipod/ipad/ishit on your break or free time. I do understand people may have emergencies (real ones, you know, like: my wife just got hit by a driver who was texting in his car while driving and shes in hospital). Rest of the time, cell phone should be turned off unless it's legal to have an hand-free device to talk. Even then, it's gonna take a bus full of dead people before they start realizing it's not a good thing to have a cell phone active in a car.

When I need to use mine (read: the job cell), I let it ring. I take the first exit where I can park somewhere (usually a Tim Horton, since we got one of those things every 500ft down here apparently) and then make my call. If I'm not going anywhere for a while (read: rush hour), I usually take my call while driving (read: 0-5km/h) since I'm basically stuck in a giant parking lot. In other situations, I wait to make my calls home. I'm in a book industry, not a pharmaceutical industry, there is no life in danger. So why would I put somebody's else life in danger because I take a call?

I can't believe how people are so dependent of their cell phones nowadays but I'll leave that to an another debate :p.

ironic that i should read this thread after buying my first real cell phone today. lol

good thing i don't drive. :)

You shouldn't be texting and driving, ever, be it in your own car or driving a bus. It can put other's lives in danger. You don't sit reading a book behind the wheel for the same reason. Taking your eyes off the road for even a second can lead to an accident.

Necro update, because I fail most of the time and didn't think to do it earlier >.>

The driver who's pic is in my op was indeed fired. The second driver caught was suspended (idk why). Mikey wrote a letter to the TTC advising it was not his intention to get the man fired but that if he had the choice he'd do it again.
