This thread will explain a few things about Puppet Master that I'm sure people are wondering. Will update and correct as often as I can. I will improve the presentation of this info when I get a chance, need to research PUP more first, wink wink.
To unlock: It's very very easy. I won't take away devi and nic's thunder though, so read this thread.

The basics:
Parts~
You can buy puppet parts in nashima, north side of town, up the ledge near the northen exit to the mire. (If anyone remembers the exact pos, please let me know) They stack in 12's, but are NOT consumable as far as I know. These greatly enhance your pet and are a must, they are more important then a weapon or armor for yourself.
Inhibitor - Fire, 1 point, Store TP, Improves TP usage efficiency
Tension Spring - Fire, 2 points, Enhances attack
Shock Absorber - Earth, 1 point, Use "Stoneskin"
Armor Plate - Earth, 2 points, Enhances defense
Stealth Screen - Water, 1 point, Reduces enmity
Mana Jammer - Water, 2 points, Enhances magic defense
Scope - Wind, 2 points, Enhances ranged accuracy
Accelerator - Wind, 2 points, Enhances evasion
Loudspeaker - Ice, 2 points, Enhances magic attack
Mana Booster - Ice, 2 points, Increases frequency of spell use
Volt Gun - Thunder, 2 points, Adds lightning damage to attacks
Stabilizer - Thunder, 2 points, Enhances accuracy
Damage Gauge - Light, 1 point, Prioritizes curing
Auto-Repair Kit - Light, 2 points, Increases HP, Adds "Regen" effect to Light Maneuver
Mana Conserver - Darkness, 1 point, Conserve MP
Mana Tank - Darkness, 2 points, Increases MP, Adds "Refresh" effect to Dark Maneuver
Head & bodies~
Talk to the galka in the automoton shop and he will ask if you want a new frame and head based on melee magic or range. Then he asks for a lot of junk, stuff we won't see for a while on AH likely. It's almost all new stuff. I asked for the melee set already so thats all he's telling me. If any other PUP could please post or PM the lists for ranger and mage frames and heads, I will add it.
I've been asked a lot if the choice was one way. According to all the pics we've seen, you should be able to eventually get em all. Need to be level 10 for quest and a PUP.
WARNING
It has been confirmed, you can only choose one frame and will have to come back at a later level to obtain another! Choose carefully please!
Melee Body/head~
1 brass sheet
1 wamara cacoon
1 imperial cermet
1 tiger fang (H2H weapon, level 66)
payment for the frame and head: 3 imperial silver
Mage Body/head~
1 spool of gold thread
1 square of velvet cloth,
1 square of wamoura cloth,
1 brass ring
payment for frame and head: 3 imperial silver
Range Body/head~
1 Rosewood Lumber
1 Karakul Leather
1 Karakul Cloth
1 Repeating Crossbow
Payment for frame and head: 3 Imp. Silver pieces
You as the master~
Weapons:
Dagger and H2H are main weapons, both seem to be at C skill. Evasion seems to also be high.
Armor: Only mage gear, which is fine. Try to focus on mp, hp, and the few damage haste gear you can find to add DOT to your pet and to help boost your pet's hp mp..
subjobs:
/mnk or /war seems to be preffered choice for good reasons. /mnk gives martial arts 1 at level 1, which is good until PUP learns it (at 24 I believe) Since you as the master are very weak, and your pet is very strong, you will want to protect yourself. In ballista, /nin will be very popular, weilding two daggers. This should be good for xp as well.
The Puppet~
Puppet names:
http://www.qcdn.org/showthread.php?t=25922
Abilities:
Puppets seem to learn spells and abilities. Right now my puppet casts cure dia and psn. We'll see, it would be nice to have an ability list if all puppet abilities. They learn these without the aid of the attachment btw. I was almost dead and crying about having to walk back from Bastok when BEHOLD I see "Serenade cures Sanjo for 27 hp." We had hawt sez afterwards in celebration.
Attachments:
To use attachments you must first go to the automoton workshop in WhiteGate and talk to the female hume as a PUP. She will offer to "teach" you an attachment, after which you can equip it whenever you please.
Stats:
Your puppets have a melee, ranged, and magic skill. It is highly recomended you level all 3 fully, and this will be explained later. Currently it seems the puppets max mp and hp is decided by it's base mp and hp and some connect to yours. Saddly, you have to unsummon and resummon the puppet before any stat changes take effect, even during level up.
Commands~
Maneuvers:
Each elemental maneuver increases the effect of the corresponding attachment, and is also said to increase the activation rate of the ability related or given by that attachment. If you use too often, your puppet will overload and not accept any more commands. In addition, he will be weakened for a while. There seems to be no visual represention of the current "heat".
Activate summons your puppet, deactivate releases it. There seems to be no penalty for puppet death and the timer for activate is 20 min.
Role of the Puppet Master.~
My favorite part! This is an honest down to earth opinion, but I believe it's extremely well based.
Basically, when asked what a puppet master's role is, the pup responds "what do you need?" He will then build that. Why do I think this? If you have a stack of all parts, and all heads and bodies on you, you could essientially build anything. Healer, DD, mage, buffer, debuffer, support, maybe even tank. This is why a good PUP will have all their puppet's skills maxed and all parts. Since you can only customize a puppet when it's not out, you join a party, ask what they need, and "build" it. It's an amazing concept, and will change our way of xping likely.
Extra ~
There is a coin exchange in nashura (or whatever it's called) that will exchange coins for when you need silver coins.
It seems the magic body and head lets you command your puppet's spell casting.
In case you were looking, the w. cacoons are sold in the cloth craft guild in Aht.
Imperial Cermet is made by alchemy.
Imperial Cermet - level 72 Alchemy
Fire crystal: 2 x cermet chunks and silcia
BTW, every time you level or change your hp/mp count you -must- resummon for the added stats to take effect on puppet. For example if you level up and havn't resummoned since level 5, your puppet is at level 5. This is a note to the confusion that some PUPS were having with their pets being so weak.
In regards to the fools who sat Puppet Master is the most random class ever in the FF series, think again. Puppet Master is S-E's well thought out Mimic class, balanced and slightly changed for use in a MMO.
