Pur's Start of a New Life

any granola bar ... yea, I'll eat em when I'm not hungry and they seem a bit much, but I finish em anyways. If you don't like the protein bars, get a granola bar or something.

I just need to break down and go to walmart.

no you dont, there are alternatives, walmart isn't the answer!

Kroger is =D (actually kroger is pretty cool about carrying a wide array of awesome shit)

Probably yea... They do go further south than where I am at, but they become sparse...

Me too ^_^; Everytime I go to subway I have them sprinkle a little on my sammich.

To date I've lost about 20 lbs. Not a bad start and is very encouraging to me. I haven't seen the numbers go down... since middle/high school. I do need to get back on the saddle and start walking more again. I've been slacking in the excersize part of things. I'm doing well on the eatting part though. I got $50 worth of boneless chicken breasts for $25 yesterday! YAY for sales. (I think I got roughly... 13lbs of chicken. Gogo freezer^^)

I'm happy for you that you're seeing and feeling a difference. It's only been a short time, even. Like you say, too, you should be better with the exercise portion of your goal...And if you are, you'll be even more happy and excited at your results. I can promise you that. Keep it up, and best of luck to you, Pur!

One thing that always motivates me to at least look out for myself and usually take it an extra step, is this saying: "We have time for the things we make time for." Look at everything you do in a day. Sure, a decent portion is probably work and answering to another cause other than yourself. Of the time that you can call your own, though, what is it you are currently making time for? What is it you would like to make time for? Often times the lists differ. My suggestion is to look over the list of things you would like to do, and just do it (hey, the Nike slogan is all too true). Don't think to much about it. Start doing the things you've been meaning to, and before you know it, they'll be done, and you'll be building better habits and investing in yourself.

It sounds like you're off to a great start, and maybe I'm just rambling, but like I said, that saying helps me along whenever I feel like I am losing a step.

Pur that is really awesome! Congratulations! I know how awesome that feels and I'm very happy for you. Keep it up - just keep thinking how much better you feel already... it will only get better from here.

As far as exercise, along these lines:

One thing that always motivates me to at least look out for myself and usually take it an extra step, is this saying: "We have time for the things we make time for." Look at everything you do in a day. Sure, a decent portion is probably work and answering to another cause other than yourself. I've read something similar in my readings looking for motivational aids. What I read is that a major complaint was that many busy people have difficulty finding time to exercise. They said to pay attention to your daily routine as far as your free time goes. If you can find the time to check your e-mail, play a videogame or watch a tv show, you have the time to exercise. I think it's about changing the way you think about exersize. You wouldn't (usually) wake up in the morning and say "Gee, I don't feel like showering today," or end your evening with "Hmm, I don't feel much like sleeping tonight." If you think about it as something required in your day - as something that is part of your "have to do" list and not something as optional as checking your e-mail or watching tv, it helps you stick to it. When I started looking at it that way, it helped me make the time so that I did it regularly. I knew it was something I needed to do for me, not just as something temporary I wanted, but to actively improve myself. Starting to see the results in my body was all the motivation I needed to keep at it.

It helps, too, if you find a method of exercise you really enjoy. Maybe walking is too bleh for you to make you want to do it. Maybe try yoga or swimming or hell, belly dancing. Find something that floats your boat. :) And then you'll find, as I did, that you will want to do it and not look at it as a chore. You'll get to a point where if you have something unexpected come up and you don't get to workout, you will miss it.

I'm proud of you! I know how hard you've been working at this, and I'm thrilled to hear you're seeing positive changes. I hope you reward yourself with something good - have the man give you a good solid massage or something!

Agreed. Eventually you will not want to even have an excuse not to exercise. I'd suggest taking on as many different variaties of exercise activities as you can handle, and then maybe 1 more...Because you can always handle a little more than you think. ;)
You'll get better full body exercise and fitness that way and you'll learn what you like/don't like.

I for one, enjoy the hell out of bicycling. I know it isn't everyone's cup of tea, but it sure as hell is about the only exercise I can constantly depend on to get me up and moving if I am "just too tired."

Seriously, Nike is right -- Just do it!

And omg, 20 pounds. Keep it up and don't let up! Make sure you're taking vitamins and still eating enough to stay healthy. Please keep us updated as time goes by. Everyone needs the support of their peers (we are social creatures!).

Rock on!

Cool. Always a good thing to try something new. Your body will get used to the same thing quickly. I hope you have fun and learn a thing or two. ^^

I have a friend who does belly dancing. She says its great for her back and her abdomen. I'd love to try it, but my work schedule prevents me from joining classes, bleah. Hope you enjoy it, and good luck!

Stretch out a lot before and after the classes. This does help reduce your soreness. Also a nice warm bath helps me out when I'm sore. Also getting a little bit extra Potassium in your diet might help too. Just remember you will get stronger and it will be easier. I would try it out for a couple more classes and see if you still like it.
