I was in a pt this weekend and me and the PLD were messin around with a SC...and got a very odd result... Swift Blade > Crossreaper = Darkness SC...

Ok...1st time it was Swift Blade (319dmg) > Crossreaper (802dmg) = Darkness (802DMG!!!) We were kidna amazed...odd that we got that much dmg outta it...

Ok now...2nd time Swift Blade(281dmg) > Crossreaper (982dmg) = Darkness 89dmg...WTF odd...

Ok now...3rd time Swift Blade(119dmg) > Crossreaper(727dmg) = Darkness(727dmg) again WTF??? why was it doing EXACT same dmg as my closing Crossreaper? anyone know...? I kinda found this odd and the fact that the 2nd time it was horrible...and it was Lightsday if that matter's any?

Maybe the Skill that closes a SC has most to do with how the damage will come out, but then again im just a WHM what do i know :/

could be possible but we did this SC several more times, and everytime it did major dmg it was the EXACT same as my closing Crossreaper...i just don't get that =/

From what I hear, any SC effect can be resisted, and any SC's damage caps off at the most damage one of the WSes did.
Though I could be wrong, coulda sworn I saw a 1087 Light once when the highest was a 900ish Asuran Fists..

I believe LV3 skillchain damage caps out at roughly double the closing weaponskill damage, but usually does mirrored damage. We were fighting undead coffer mobs, and I was closing Darkness with 600 Swift Blade and 1200 Darkness. Not sure how it works exactly though.

Yeah from what I have seen, level and weakness to the SC affects damage done by the skillchain. For instance, a level one skillchain (Scission, impactions, reverberation, etc..) will get resisted more than a level two (Fragmentation, Distortion (everyone's favorite skillchain which they freak out over)). I BELIEVE, that a level 1 can do approximately half damage of the closing WS. This is off the top of my head so not positive. Now I have also heard that level 3 can do double damage. I have yet to make one so I cant testify. So this would lead one to believe that a level 2 can do mirror damage to the CLOSING WS damage. I personally have never seen it go above half damage, and I have closed a LOT of level 2's.

You can test this out if you have a bard friend. Have em use those threnodies and make the skillchain it refers to. See how it does, or how high you can your damage to go.

For side notes, make sure your bard gets off his threnody before the SC is done. Not only will it lower Blm chance of resist on a burst, it also lowers chance of resist on the SC, giving it the chance of doing half damage more often.

i didnt know the SC dmg could be resisted too, thats some good info for me ((me being a thf i close a lot of SC's))

SC damage can be resisted yes

there have also been numerous reports of "Timing" having a major factor on whether you will be resisted or not

as in, if you time the ending WS perfectly (I guess there's supposedly a specific amount of time after the first WS goes off that's considered the 'sweet spot'), the SC will not be resisted (50% damage on Lv.2, 100% or more on Lv.3)

I've NEVER seen Distortion hit for the same damage as my Viper Bite. I think it has to do with the damage the opener does though. My best SC dmg has always come off of a strong opener.

I have seen 350+ Distortions though, and that's going to be 400+ soon.

On an IT mob, it appears that a level 3 skillchain caps at 100 percent of the damage of the closing attack. I believe level 2's on an IT cap at 2/3, and level 1's at 50%, but I'm not sure. If you do a 3 man chain, I think the cap goes up. Again, not entirely sure. I've never busted 100 percent on an IT mob that I'm aware of. As you move down to VT mobs, you will notice that damage breaks the 100 percent barrier.

As far as parameters that decrease the resistance rate, I dunno. I would guess elemental dot numbers, but Sniper's Rings would royally screw one level 3 chain if that were true. I would also guess attack, but then again it could be anything or nothing.

Forgot to say this, but when I mentioned I think the opener applies, it's probably a kind of average dmg modifer. Generally I get crappy SC dmg when the opener is a Samerai or Dragoon compared to a Ranger.

Also, I think the type of ws used may also effect the SC based on it's compatability. What I mean by this is that my highest SC dmg has been with a Ranger or a Dragoon as my Thief, and they have the same 'type' of dmg as I do.

Well, the fact both our WS get a bonus against the same mobs might be all that there is to that... :?

Actually last weekend against an IT++ Alastor, Spinning Slash did about 950 for about 1050 Light SC--Goblins are weak to light however so this is likely the culprit.

What he said. Your timing often affects how much its resisted. Lvl 3 SCs I see them do exactly half my ws damage or the exact same damage. Then theres situations like gobs who are weak to light. I do 1100ish Spinning Slash and 1500ish Light ^^

Also, this is just from experience, I found 3 man lvl 3 SCs tend to have a damage boost that 2 man lvl 3 doesnt. No proof though >.>

Level 3 (2 man) caps at 100% Closing

Level 3 (3 man) caps at either 150 or 200% of closing ws

SC damage can be resisted like anything else.

Tyrath's report about the extra damage on the lightness chain, if it was 2 man, may be due to a bonus because of day or weakness... I am not sure. The above statements reflect both documents i read when L3 chains first came out and personal experiance. Hope that answers some of your questions :)

When I first dinged 60 I was SCing with a dragoon in cape terr fighting a VT crab.

950 Dancing edge----> 600+ distorion, so it's possible for lvl 2 SC to hit 2/3 definitely. This very rarely happens but it's happened.

what this person said

I can't remember the actual damage of dragon kick..

We were doing ZM5 in Zitah on that flesh NM... it was a 4 person skill chain, liquification, to fusion, to light.... it ended in Duffdelivery man doing dragon kick... Skillchain Light, and the mob took 1900 DMG on the skill chain... the highest SC i've seen. i could hardly believe it myself. anyone else seen one that high before?

Veteran, I'm 67, we needto party ;-;
I miss good PLDs...only seen like...two in my lifetime.. x_x (and I forgot the name of the other good one x.o; she used Earth Staff and Spirit Taker to WS. Was efil..)
