I understand that SAM AF is one of the possible rewards. I also understand that a map is one of the rewards.

I'd like a map now, and SAM AF later...Much later.

I don't know much about this, so my question is:
Is there one coffer better than another, or one that's guaranteed, to get me the map?
 
Well if it's your AF hands coffer you are in luck, long as you don't activate the hand AF quest you will get map. Otherwise you have to be below 50 or open it with another class. I forgot what AF QC coffer was for sam.. I think it was pants no? Kuftal is gloves I think.
 
Like anesly said, you can open any coffer for the map, providing the job you are using doesnt have AF there and activated.

I'll give you another tip too. The tele-altep quest is there. Get it activated in rabao and look for the ??? and coffer at the same time. Easy cash. I did both at the same time and it worked out well (I used the scroll though)

There is only one QSC's, just many entrances.
 
Once you get a map from a coffer it has all maps in the area. "extra maps" are only for areas larger then what one map can hold or for multiple floors and are included when you get the map for the zone.

Coulda sworn a SAM in my party opened the coffer and got old gauntlets for his BLM or somethin...cause she already have myochin kote..
 
Once you get the hands quest triggered you can open the coffer with any job.
 
Am I to understand that someone is actually interested in getting a coffer key?
I never got one while leveling there, and now I'm kinda stuck. Everybody else seem to have got theirs, so no parties ever go :p

If you're going for a key sometime, feel free to look me up :)
 
We got a lot of keys last night...Too many heheh.
 
You could have also picked the coffer for your map :p its one of those nice things thfs can do ^^;

I've yet to pick anything but my nose...Gotta try that.
 
Also to get your af hands you need to flag af2 first then flag the af hands quest in upper jeuno. Then you can open the coffer to find your Old Gauntlets, in sneaky's case, that would be in Monastic Cavern, dont bother with a key, just pick it. http://www.bvvp.com/gaming/ffxi/thfaf.html Thats where i found the info, its a good site.

I do all my AF stuff of that site. It's the best thing since sliced bread. There was a problem on it during AF2 though, I can't remember what it was. Misinformation.

I also want to make this clear because I got in an argument with someone the other night... it's way off topic but there are 3, yes 3, AFs. Not 6. 3! The 3 AFs go along with the story. The other ones are picked from coffers but are not called AF#. There is no AF4, and so forth. Just wanted to clear my chest on that one. Continue...

I think not, I'm pretty sure you will get only the af or old gauntlets from a coffer only for your main. Dont quote me on this but say a whm with all af goes to CN and opens the coffer there and hes also a brd with the hands flagged, i dont think hell get his piece.

What do you use to lock pick? Living key, skeleton? I know nothing about that. I've read a bit, but I'd rather hear it from someone I know here who has some experience.
