Because the search function is so useless? It's there for a reason. Learn to use it.

Agreed. And if people don't use that, they won't use a sticky either.
See: Quests - Missions - Guides for an item I have stickied, is common sense, and still flys over people's heads regularly.

Searching for something doesn't tell you if it's banned or undesireable. Reading through every post & thread would take quite a long time. Let's be realistic as to what most people would not be willing to spend their time doing & make things convenient for all.

If you search for something and see 30 topics on it, common sense would dictate that the answer exists already.

common sense also dictates you would have to read every single one to find what points already have been gone over. The person's question might not be related to the final outcome either, but rather something related that could have been discussed. Short & sweet & pinned 4TW.

No. Short, sweet and pinned is not the end all be all. Did you see my post, which just happens to be an example involving the users of QCDN, and a simple sticky?

Sticky no worky. The very problem is with the lack of common sense and/or effort.

I search for "QCDN Banners" and I see that sculli has posted a thread about it. I read his topic. Problem solved.

If you think about it a little harder, you'd realize that many don't have the amount of time to search through all the search results & the posts in each thread result. Possibly a very good poll idea. I for one only use QCDN early in the day just before logging in to play or while at work between the moments of chaos (also early in the day). People w/jobs that don't get to play much will undoubtably agree w/me, for what time they can spend freely & play the game, they try & spend as little time as possible finding answers.

So to save your time instead of searching, you make a thread about it, then continue to argue about how searching is a waste of time?:coco:

Do I really need to think about it harder?

OR

Do you need to realize that the search function and stickies already exist, and it is NO FAULT OUTSIDE OF THE INDIVIDUAL USER if they are incapable of using these features?

Stop enabling yourself and others that have nothing but excuses.

I have a job, and I go to school full time. I still know how to, and do, use the search function.:shok:

Good lawd.. this is not EQ.. why must they place adds on a FFXI game for EQ!

On a side note-- today was the first time I ever used to search feature. It's honestly pretty cool but might not always be noticed by everyone.

Isotope I am sure you realized this after you posted-- but if you don't have time to use a search feature what makes you think that others would have time to repeat the answer to your question? Rhetorical.

Do you have a full-time job? just curious... Forums mod isn't a choice, unless your getting taxes taken out of your paycheck.

Wouldn't you like to know?
I think it's safe to say, I handle search functions and life better than you.
You're such a little bitch when you get Pwned by several people.
To you, it's probably better then admitting your an idiot.

Yes obviously I've already realized this now with the replies this post has received. However now it seems the discussion has shifted to the forums search feature v.s. a possible alternate & faster means of finding some answers to what are obviously overly discussed questions/topics. Not everyone has the time for search, & obviously since so many people apparently don't use it as a few would prefer to see it used, I'm mearly standing up for those & myself who obviously dont' have that time & are tired of the negetive comments received by those who love sounding politically correct, in this case, about the "search" function.

Sorry if this is alittle late but "Search" does not always work. If you take this case for example, i search gil seller ads, and i didnt see any topics relevant to that in the first 2 pages (2 of 11 that is) and personally, i wouldnt want to spend my time sifting through 11 pages to see if there was a topic already started. And the reason you get so many topics is because the search takes out the words "gil" and "ads" because they are too common so your basically searching "seller" and therefore the point of the search is lost. Now I know on google if you put your search in "" then all the words within that have to be next to each other and that narrows down your search, but whenever i do that on here it just comes up with no results.

So yes the search tool is great but only for certain things and topics or if your looking for a post by an author then its great. But for something like this it isn't so hot.

On a second note, i agree with Isotope on the last point. You say to use the search function and all that bs, but why cant you just answer the question nicely and then add "but next time could you please use the search function". All that does is lead to 4 pages of BS about nothing related to the point of the topic. Also why does it matter if a new topic is made? Is it because of spam? Well shit, if thats the case then everyone of all the other posts in this 4 page topic is spam.

Well, to make you realize that it's really just YOU...I'll divulge.

I have a full time job that I am at a minimum of 9 hours per day. Yes, it's a salaried, real, full time job and not some McDonalds security guard bullshit. From time to time, I pick up a second job to keep me busy and bring in some extra money to toss into any of my investments. I don't make a ton of money, but 50k/year pays the bills just fine. Working out, spending time with family and friends and participating in my slew of hobbies is just the rest of my life.

Most of the time when I am here at work, I am at or near my deak doing 3rd level support for our desktop engineering team. Other duties at work would include 3rd level support and integration of new technologies into a fortune 500 company with 100,000 computers. Blackberry support, running and arranging MS Live Meeting forums for audiences of 50-750, writing training manuals for new processes, maintaining the current techie certs, web development and support....Blah blah blah. The list goes on.

I have no problem multi-tasking, and since I am in front of a PC at least 6 hours/day, I can use QCDN quickly and easily. If I need to search, I search...Be it for a sticky or a keyword. I have much success with this, so what's your excuse for sucking at it?

Coming up with ways that are quicker and easier isn't even necessary. For all of us that have no issue using the tools and functions aat our fingertips, why should we come up with a new way to do it for you? Why can't you adjust to the multiple, already easy to use tools and tricks?

The thing is that people are already not reading stickies. The more stickies there are, the less likely it is that people will read them. In addition, this is not an issue for most everyone. Those who frequent QCDN often remember when this was talked about in December, and then again in January. These days it is rare that a gil seller ad creeps up on QCDN, and most of the time I am able to block it before people actually notice it.
