Unless you have aesthetic concerns with logos and such, I'd say flowing is best. You want to try and avoid the need for horizontal scrolling if at all possible, and you never know if any dinosaurs out there are stuck on some archaic screen resolution. Flowing is always a safe bet. Going against everything I said above, my own website is fixed width simply to look the best with the logo and such. If you have no formatting to make anything but a certain fixed width look bad, it seems unnecessary.

EDIT: My advice would be to wait till you get a logo, and see what looks best then. Left justified logos, center justified logos, even the design of the logo itself can make different website widths look better or worse.

fixed, because some people break the board with really long posts.

I've got to agree, for the same reason.

You don't adjust for the 2% of people with dinosaur monitors. You force them to buy a $30 used monitor at a yard sale, and adjust to everyone else.

That seems to be handled pretty well by this forum since the upgrade. Now it just makes their single post super wide, and the rest are normal width. This lets people post that extra wide content without breaking the thread width for other posts.

The horizontal barrier is usually broken because of an image, and as you can see from this thread (of which I just noticed you yourself are the second poster o_O):

It's not working.

His pics don't break the width on my view (fits perfectly on 1280x1024). However, for an example I would say look at my post in the real life pictures thread. My picture is super wide, but it only affects my post.

Edit: 876px is extremely narrow for a fixed width. That would only be 2/3 the width of my current resolution. I would feel sorry for anyone using 1600x1200 resolution with a typical monitor or higher. Even worse for people with nice widescreen monitors.

I like it now, I'm always looking at qcdn on different computers, and I never have to side scroll, even on my PSP.

Yeah i have to agree with you , its easy to read QCDN off my psp.

They only time i had to side scroll was when someone posted too big pics or when Pandetech posts.

But i love my 21 inch monitor

Flowing. Like everything thats been posted before, why gimp the people running resolutions 1024 and up, because theres still a few people using 800x600.

I just went and checked this on a lower resolution and it works then too. I don't understand why you say it is broken or not working. Only the post by Decidence with the extra wide content is stretched, which is necessary to show his picture. The rest of the posts are spaced to fit completly on your normal screen resolution. What better solution could you want? This allows people post extra wide pictures without breaking the format of the forum and ruining the spacing on everyone elses posts.

that isn't a dinosaur monitor lol
Dinosaur can mean two different things. Ancient or huge. He is reading it as meaning huge. I read it as meaning old, but I think the op might have meant huge.

Sculli usually gets sad when ppl don't vote in his polls. That being said: I can't vote because I have absolutley no clue wtf fixed and flowing is >_>;

People mentioned side scrolling. I hate that. If one causes side scrolling, I vote for the other. I run off a 22" Flatscreen @ 1280 x 1024. Someone tell me which is better for me and I'll vote accordingly.

Flowing sizes the forum width to match your resolution. Fixed has a set width, such as 800 pixels. In your case that would only use 2/3 of your monitor. The only time you would have to scroll with either is large photos, but on flowing at least it only affects the individual post. Not sure how fixed handles it.

I voted as it is now, because I don't really see that there is a problem, what with the scoll bars on the side of my screen and more importantly, the middle mouse button.

Voted! Don't cry Sculli.

As it is now. Trippy won me over with the middle mouse button. Don't f!@k with my middle mouse button!
