QCDN Mission Statement

I would like us to come up with a mission statement for this site.
There is a great deal if information out there on how to create a mission statement if you Google for it.

The mission statement is supposed to be something that is fairly short, memorable, and something people can agree on.

For QCDN it could be something along the lines of:
"QCDN is the Quetzalcoatl's players quality choice for communication outside of the game. QCDN's core purpose is to provide a venue for community-driven interaction."

This is a very raw form, and just a suggestion. The final statement could be completely different. I would just like to get the discussion going.

The heart of Rome is not the marble floors of the Senate, but the sands of the Colloseum. - Gladiator

The heart of Quetzalcoatl Daily News is not the congratulations of the Good Times, but the cursing of the Flameboard.

You might just post the rules of the Flameboard as the mission statement. A quick look at post numbers in each forum shows how QCDN gets and keeps its population.

Sure, the Flameboard is a big part of QCDN. But then again, a lot of the posts on there are in essence PC+1. The actual information content is in the low 10% I'd estimate. So if you take the current posts, and divide them by 10, then you will end up with a number of posts that is actually comparable to other areas of QCDN.

To bring most, if not all, English speaking players of the server in one centralised place, where they may discuss, have a laugh, trade and share knowledge.

Tough to write a mission statement that clearly already is known. That is:

'To bring a central forum for any discussions that involve the Quetzalcoatl FFXI server.'

That is what brought be here. I always hear about this in game. If anything you might try and expand on that line.

Fixed :P I'm sure the Japanese talk about us behind our backs elsewhere :P

QCDN, bringing diversity together.

Quetzalcoatl Daily News with its tradition rooted in the gaming world,
QCDN prepares young men and women for their gaming lives.

-challenging them to gaming excellence and the desire for life long learning.

-nurturing them to be open to advice, intellectually competent, concerned, and committed to bringing about justice.

-inspiring them to bring about a further understanding of the game and a deeper personal developement.

Maybe I am just getting too old, but I am seriously getting tired of people being pricks to each other on purpose.

If one looks at it once one has taken a step back, then one sees the following (if one wants to see it):

-we are all people
-we are all gamers
-we are all MMO players
-we are all FFXI players (past, current, and future)
-some of us play the same race
-some of us play the same jobs
-some of us play with the same people
-some of us play during the same time
etc. etc., this could go on forever.

Given that essentially all QCDN users have a whole lot in common, there is really little reason to intentionally being hostile toward other users.

Sure, some people are easier to get along with than others. However, when concentrating one the common ground we all have it becomes easier to deal with those with whom one has issues with.

QCDN is known for it's drama, and I am not saying there shouldn't be any. The Flameboard has been good to the site, many users signed on because they felt the need to either rant on someone, or pitch in on someone ranting on them. That's cool, and I wouldn't want to have it any other way.

I would like to move the focus of QCDN away from the Flameboard though. I would like to make QCDN a more positive place is you will. I know that people have a choice to avoid the negativity of the Flameboard, I would just like to support good character with a mission statement, with contest that reward people who are good to others.

Yeah, I may be going soft, but it's not unreasonable to try and make this a better place, while at the same time giving those who thrive on negativity an outlet as well.

Funny how westyle posts this right after sculli's statement =p :bb:

Sculli, as with anything real life - personalities, if not already translucent to others naturally, are developed into online personas. You will always have varying degrees of conflict due to different personalities.

There are critics. Then there are observers.
There are liars. Then there are truthful people.
There are jokers. Then there are serious folks.
Cynics, Positive attitudes.
Revenge, Forgive.

You have seen this diversity on these very boards I'm sure.
