QCDN Username Change

In the past the QCDN policy has always been that username changes are not supported. The rationale was that threads (especially Flameboard ones) would reference a specific user, and changing the name of users would lead to confusion as to who was meant and why and when and where, etc.

Now that we do not have the FB anymore, this has become less of an issue, and I am happy to annouce that you may request a one-time username change.

In order to change your user name you will have to follow these steps:

Send a PM to Sculli.
The subject of the PM must read:

username change: [insert your current user name here]
(i.e.: username change: Sculli)

Please note that unless your PM has that subject line, your user name change may be delayed or not processed at all. I am filtering my PMs so that the change requests all go to one place and they will be made on first come first served basis.

Some user names are too long and break the forum design. There is no real way to tell ahead of time whether a new user name will be too long. The user name change depends on whether the new user name will fit the board, if it doesn't then your user name will be changed back to your old one.

Once you submit a user name change request, your user name could be changed at any time. This means that all of a sudden you may not be able to post because as you were composing your post, I changed your user name, and now you can not submit your thread or post. This also means that you could lose the current post that you have been working on for so long. Please, if you submitted a user name change, and you are composing a long post, make a copy of it before you hit SUBMIT. Making a copy (simple Ctrl+C usually suffices) will make your life less stressful. ;)

When that happens all you need to do is to log in again using your new user name and your old password.

I need to change the user names manually. Depending on how many change requests are ahead of you, and depending on my RL schedule, your username change may not happen for hours, or days. I will try to perform all change requests within 24 hours of submission, but don't get upset if that doesn't happen. If you submitted your request using the correct PM subject, then it will be done, please be patient.

I will keep a log of which user name changed to which in this thread.

Do not submit change requests here, use PM instead!

This thread is only to inform you of the process, and answer any questions regarding the process.

Once you user name has changed, your account will be flagged as changed, and you will not be able to change your user name again, so choose wisely.

Just curious what would prompt this.

Also, will people still be required to keep their in game name in their signatures?

I had receintly started to change user names that broke the board table design. There were a few of them, can't really remember them all "ThatGuyYouKnow", "TecTheOneLeggedTaru", and a few more.

I received a few PMs about user name changes, and my standard response was "nope". After I sent one of those "no way" PMs back to a requester yesterday, I thought about why exactly I didn't want to change usernames. The reason really was that I thought it would make things way too difficult to keep track of within posts, especially should there be multiple user name changes.

Between the FB gone, only performing one name change, and keeping a list of changes for public reference, it seemed like a good compromise between the workload it creates and accomodating those users who picked a username they are not really happy with anymore.

re: in-game name in sigs
I still believe it's a good idea to have your in-game name in your sig as there are a lot of users whos QCDN name doesn't correspond to their in-game name, and who have no intention to change their QCDN name to their in-game name. It helps to know who's who.

However, it's not a requirement anymore to do so. It'It hasn't been part of the QCDN Community Standards or the QCDN Avatar & Signature Guidelines.

The main problem is that it is not practical to enforce such requirement, and it's definitely not possible to verify the authenticity, thus making the whole thing pretty pointless.

what do we put in the body of the message?
the username we want?

Sure, I need to read the body no matter what, so it doesn't have to be in some specific format. ;)

With these changes, is it worth adding an 'Ingame Name' field to be displayed with jobs beneath avatar incase people change forum name FROM ingame name instead of to?

And with these changes, perhaps it would be good to have a thread to show the 'old names' to 'new names', so that ppl dont get too confuseld. ^.^

Awesome ^.^

And thanks btw Sculli. I've wanted to change my username eversince I had joined QCDN, and as you can see....that has been for quite some time. XD

I want to change Lanien to lolJesus

I know I am not supposed to do it in this thread, but I felt like it :D
