In General:
People have disagreements, and it's generally due to the fact that people have a hard time stepping away and realizing that we're all "right" in our own heads. And most of these alliances that form in these arguments are due to a phenomenon publicized most famously by the psychologist Aronson. He states that alliances form when person A and person B eithe both hate or both like stimulous X. And opposition only forms when A and B possess differing positions on stimulus X. However you could also extend that to include his laws of infidelity that can in fact extend to social interations no matter how intimate, however in the inverse of the "traditional" laws of infidelity when lorger social spheres are involved. When you have a group of friends, you take thier critical comments less seriously as you would those same comments from a stranger, when placed in the presence of those friends. A "pack mentality" if you will, you gather support from your peers, may it be for the distruction of the one that doesn't fit your beliefs, or protection from those that challenge your beliefs.
In short, your alliances are only strong because you believe in the same things, and if you could extend that further you could realize that everyone on this forum is in that same belief set in one way or another.
