Quantum Of Solace

Yeah but no one has even posted in that thread and it's at the very bottom of page 2. But yeah, I saw the trailer when I saw The Dark Knight. Looks purdy bitchin'.

Not really a huge James Bond fan, but Casino Royale was awesome imo. I am actually looking forward to this movie. Danial Criag is a great James Bond.

Yeah Casino Royale was the first Bond movie I've really loved in a long time. I thought they did a great job with it, and I think Craig was an exceptional choice for Bond; he was awesome. I'm really looking forward to this next movie. The trailers are pretty intriguing.

I wasn't the biggest fan of Casino Royal, but if this movie has the grittiness of the first movie without the 'becoming Bond' mentality, this movie could really excel as a bond movie. It seems they have alot going for them with the direction they're taking Bond, and I hope they rise to the occasion.

Trailer looks awesome, I'm looking forward to seeing this.

Amazing. Just got home from the midnight showing and man was it win. Craig is a fantastic bond and I enjoyed every second of the movie. Only thing that could have been better was the opening song, kinda meh. Everything else was awesome though.

Going to have to go ahead and disagree with Raidr. I found the movie to be entertaining at most, would not call it very win. See spoiler for details and reasons, since I have to be specific.

Spoiler:

1. No real villain. Derrick Greene was a pussy with no real power within the big mystery Quantum organization. I didn't really consider what he was doing to be all that worthy of his own movie. There's no resolution to the water shortage at the end of the movie, other than the death of Greene, who should've introduced the master of Quantum at the very least before his death.
2. Direct sequel, middle trilogy film, resolves most of the loose ends from the first one at the *end* of the movie. I'm of the school that Bond movies should be complete in their stories with an introduction of one major villain, and the destruction of their master plans at the hands of Bond in a series of kickass action sequences and a few cool gadgets. They pull the formula of all planned trilogies lately and made it a "cliffhanger" (not so much) by not really explaining the purpose, scale, or leadership of Quantum.
3. The artsy nature of some scenes was really poor judgement on the director's part. The focus was off in many scenes, with an unusual depth of field effect compared to what most Bond films have used but I could accept that. The shaky camera in the first couple action sequences left me feeling like I was watching the Blair Witch Project's cameraman. The silent action sequence with the interspliced experimental stage show had me audibly saying "what the fuck" in the theater. The action sequences were good, but they took too much of the first movie's free running successes and removed any real big stunts and grand scale sequences.
4. The movie was SHORT at something like 106 minutes, but it felt like it took forever to end. I kept waiting for something bigger and better to come, and was never fulfilled.
5. This one could just be me, but was there complete shit for a Bond girl in this movie. Ms. Fields had a lot of potential and they just drown her in oil when we lose track of her for a minute. Camille was ok, but with a sort of lacking story. I wish she had a more serious revenge attitude than the soft and, uncharacteristic of most Bond girls, weak female personality. I like my Bond girls to be sexy with a personality that doesn't make me want to strangle them.

Overall, I enjoyed watching the movie despite its obvious flaws. I hope the third installment will relieve the issues I came up with from watching this one. At the end of the credits it does say "Bond will return" and I take that to mean they'll finally go into the meat of the organization. And perhaps bring Q in.

I completely agree with Tauro on his points above, especially #4 in his spoiler. I was really disappointed with this film, honestly i saw Max payne last night and (while it wasn't a good film...) I felt it had a better story. At the same time i was expecting much more action in that film and less in this one, it's like the films got mixed up at some point in development.

I also have to agree with Tauro. This movie was entertaining, but not good. In fact, the more I'm going to think about this movie in the coming weeks, the more I'm probably going to hate it.

If Max Payne had a better story than do I even wanna see this crap? <_<

I thought it was a solid 2nd movie in a trilogy. Mr. Greene did a solid job as a villain in this film. When he told that guy how the organization he works for does business it changed my perspective of him. Also the main villain in this trilogy is the Organization itself. Mr. Greene was just the beginning. Also wouldn't be shocking if this goes past 3 movies also. I think Mr. White will be the main focus in the 3rd movie for the most part. I enjoyed the fight scenes, chase scenes, and the comedy of this movie. If you enjoyed Casino Royale you will enjoy this one.

EDIT: Also I hope they don't introduce Q or anyone like Q in the new films. He wouldn't fit into the more realistic scheme of things that the last 2 movies have come to be known for.

Lol? I don't think you saw the same QoS as me <_<.

What was so unrealistic about it? The only unrealistic thing in it was part where they jumped out of the airplane and didn't hit the parachute until they were like 100 ft from the ground, but my statement is meant more towards the whole laser wrist watches, exploding pens, cars w/ more fire power than a tank, and etc... Also in the older films James Bond was rarely injured.

I'll be honest it's been about 3 weeks or more since i saw it and i don't really remember what happened all that well, i've not spent much time thinking about it. I just remember thinking at the time the action was WAY over the top, Casino Royal was a clever film with a strong story and a fair amount of action, but always believable (except maybe the scene when Bond gets poisoned and the whole restarting his heart in the car). In this film, from the initial chase to the running across rooftops to driving a boat over/across everything in site to jumping out of a plane that's been shot to shit to running through a burning building as it collapses behind him... you're right, what's not to believe. I've probably forgotten to mention some of the other rediculous sequences but like i said, it's been a while since i saw it.

I'm not faulting you for liking it, i like some movies that alot of people think are terrible (Wing Commander anyone? lol) But in my opinion, this was a run of the mill OTT hollywood mindless action film, and i was very disappointed.

I also think that Casino Royale was better than QoS. I didn't see any problems w/ the roof top chase scene being too unrealistic. I think the construction site chase scene in Casino Royale was more unrealistic than the roof top one from QoS. To be honest I did expect more from this film than it delivered in the story department. Still was a decent film in my eyes and did share some interesting bits and pieces on how the organization that Bond is trying to take down does business. QoS deep down is just a setup film for the 3rd film in this new James Bond series of events.

One of the early reviews I read summed it up nicely:

The Digital Bits said:
The best thing you can do for yourself going into "Quantum," is to re-watch "Casino Royale." Preferably right before you head out for the theatre. That's what we did, and we were very glad for it. Because this movie picks up literally one hour after the last film ended, and there's no recap. You're thrust right smack into the middle of the action, going 100kph with lead flying, and you'd better be ready for it. 'Cause if you're not, you're gonna be left in the dust pretty quickly. Plus, if you'll recall, the complaint about "Casino" was that it was too long, so too long plus too short - when you watch 'em back to back - equals just right.

The simple fact is, "Quantum of Solace" isn't the NEXT James Bond film... it's the second half of the last one. "Casino" and "Quantum" together tell a complete, self-contained narrative - effectively the origin story of this new incarnation of 007 - and you really have to consider the two films as one. "Casino" had more humor, and more romance, because it had to. Because it needed to, in order for you to care about Bond and to understand the measure his pain. Conversely, "Quantum" is all about redemption, and discovering the bigger picture, and about Bond coming to terms with his guilt and his pain in the traditional way. You know... by kicking ass. Bond wants the bad guys and he definitely wants revenge for Vesper's death, but even more than that he needs to know that what he felt for her - that what she felt for HIM - was real. When he's done, a formidable enemy will have begun to take shape, and 007 will be the man he needs to be for this franchise to CONTINUE kicking ass.

I took his advice, and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed Quantum of Solace more than I think I would if I'd just walked in cold. Neyla pointed out that it's very much a Kill Bill situation.

Neyla pointed out that it's very much a Kill Bill situation.

Only difference being: The Kill Bill movies were titled Volume 1 and Volume 2, so even the slowest of people could realize that they should probably see the first one before going to see the 2nd. I don't like that QoS picks up where Casino Royale left off, without really telling you that. If it was called Casino Royale 2, I'd understand.

You can fault the studio I'd imagine, for failing to promote this as a second part of a two part story. That's probably why the reviews have seemed meh.
