Question about accounts

I quit in May '08. Is my account gone for good or is stored away? I'm level 75 WHM and I'm tinkering in my head playing for a little while and this Abbyssea or whatever it is called sounds so enticing.

It MIGHT still be there. I've heard of people with charas as old as yours coming back. But, that's long enough ago you might want to come though The Character Restoration Service to be sure. Rule of thumb is a year before coming back without going though that might be iffy, or so I hear.

Is there a way to check? I really don't want to go through installation again if I don't have to.

No easy way to check without reinstalling POL at least I THINK. Me and 'Neko have only canceled ONCE and that was for about a year roughly. We reactivated... and our charas were still there. I wouldn't swear to it but I don't think you'd have to install more than POL.(We didn't uninstall, and we had the PS2 version around as well anyway.) Don't yank my tail please if I'm dead wrong.

I'll ask a certain taru friend of mine, she came back after about as long as you, no reactivation service BUT (this will proly make you go :facepalm: ); she'd been hacked and had to have her lil' taru locked down for a while. I doubt what happened to Mirrsie will have happened to you tho unless you've seen some strange charges on your credit card recently. (She didn't have anything worth stealing so they bought all the miniexpansions and may of used her taru for other things.)

[Edit] and in case you want to be careful and reinstall the whole thing: Check this BG thread out for a unofficial way to get the FFXI updates.. I've used the unoffical updates from BG before when I got frustrated with trying to update (after virus scanning the file of course. I want to know where things like that have been before I use them.). No problems.

It seems to vary between people.

I've done a two year stretch and simply had to reactivate my content ID. But I've also heard from others about needing the restoration service after only a handful of months.

I've known people who had been gone two years or more and came back with no problems. But, I think their deletion process is random. As far as I know, there isn't a way to tell without reactivating and trying to log in.

I'd like to think you have a good chance, With that character activation service they are suppose to have and everything. Abyssea does make leveling so much easier! (and whm af3 is sort of cute, too!)

The only thing is, when I left the game I stripped myself down to the bear minimum and gave everything away. My friends are gone, my gear is gone and I think I'd feel lost (and ashamed) to come back again so I think I'll just bow out, especially with school starting up again.

If anything I wish I could rent an XI for a week and just fool around.

Idk, I don't really want to pay it, nvm, so I canceled it, but it's good till the end of the month anyways, even though I didn't pay anything... Basically I'm retrying for 2 weeks for free, lol. My chars were still there and everything.

If you just canceled your content IDs like you should have, WITHOUT deleting, your character should still be there.

I hear with Abbys you can really pick up and go. I really want to keep it casual to be honest.

Well my character was actually deleted (not just content ID's canceled, but deleted) 15 months ago when I didn't want to play anymore, but my friend wanted to play the game again so he did the reactivation service on my account and was able to get everything back without any problems whatsoever. He's roaming about now on Quetz as we speak. I've logged in to make sure, and sure enough, all my merits and rare/ex gear was there. (Can't tell you about non-rare/ex gear, cause I sold everything and gave away all my gil before I quit)

Edit: I think it was called Return home to Vana'diel Campaign or something.

Double Edit: You're gonna need at least one of the registration codes you used for your initial installation.
