why is it a sig can be animated but not an avatar? i tried to use one the other day it would not let me..

I personally am pro-animated avatars. The only difference in arguments between sig vs. avatar is the order in which each load I believe. Otherwise, Reeve does not want them, and they may contribute to further annoyance.

If we release the capability to use animated avatars, people can put any annoying image they want in there.

I'm also pro avatar, but in the end, it's what Reeve says.

not trying to be an ass but you can use annoying images with sigs the same way, some of the sigs 'tried' were asked to be taken down because of the content why not allow moderation as well with the animated avatars as well?

You're not an ass for asking that question. It is a policy Reeve sticks to and I can only figure he has his reasons. Without actually testing my theory on the animated avatars preventing posts from loading with acceptable delay, I can't really defend it. He does run other forums though, so...

If it were up to me, I'd be all for very small, non-noticeable, animated avatars.

meh, personally, it is just a battle I know I am not really all that interested in fighting. They make no difference one way or another in my opinion.

Worthier causes exist in getting QCDN onto vBulletin 3.7 and implementing new, unbroken, theme packages.

3.7 is gonna change a lot of things. Hopefully for the better. I'll see what I can do about getting animated avatars back, but don't hold your breath.

I like Skreb's better >.>

Dude, just look at him. He looks like he would end you just as soon as he would offer you some toast and jam.

The main difference I see between sigs and avatars is that sigs are posted as a URL, whereas avatars may or may not be directly uploaded to the site...which I suppose will use a bit more of the allowed space, but if that's such an issue then why not just disable the feature altogether, y'know? I honestly dunno what issue there could be outside of that.

I have a question also.

When I go to choose an avatar from the QCDN selection, all of the photos show up as red X's marked in the middle of a white box, so it doesn't display any pictures at all, but I can see other's avatars when they post in the forums. :S

they've been broken for awhile a little after or before sculli left, we asked for them to be fixed but I don't think anyone had the time or whatnot
