Was wondering if anyone might be able to give some insight as to which axes I should use at 60. I have a few choices, and i'm not entirely sure which to go with.

I have Tungi, Darksteel Axe (not the +1, I was planning on getting that but some moron overpriced it and I don't feel like paying whatever the cost is with only one on sale. I'd rather let it go back to the seller ^^) as well as the Viking Axe.

I was thinking that I should probably go with Darksteel + Tungi, but I wonder if the +10ACC I would lose is too much. As for the rest of my gear, I have +38ACC and then food (sole sushi) for TP gain.

So, if anyone can give their feedback it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

2 acc= 1% hit rate increase so the axe solo should give you about a 2.5% boost in dot vs not having it.
now take the average damage your offhand does( you can dual weild the vikings for testing to see) then go test out the damage your darksteel does. If the darksteel axe hits for more than 2~3% of the damage that a viking axe hits for then it is superior to the viking axe.

If there's anything wrong in this method of testing let me know. I just made it up 5 seconds ago.

2 acc= 1% hit rate increase

lol, no.

we all wish life was really that easy.

If you're using sushi anyway the 10 accuracy won't make a lick of difference. Let's just leave it at that.

Besides, at 60 you get C.Chain and you just got Haubergeon.

Go with Dst.(+1 when you can get one) and Tungi. At 63 you can get a Franny too but it's a marginal boost. I for one didn't bother with it and my warrior is 67 now.

You might (though only huge might) be able to pull off using Hedgehog Pies if you offhand a Viking Axe...however this usually requires a lot of other acc gear (such as PCC and woodsmans/snipers) as well as axe merits to boot in order to pull that off effectively...it doesn't seem you'd be able to merit axe with your current jobs, so I'm unsure if that food/armor setup would work effectively for you. =/

I'm calling bullshit on that.

Keep in mind Wikipedia is user-editable and should never be considered gospel.

That "formula" doesn't take into account player or mob level or skill rating.

Edit: Reading more, I'm going to check with some other resources. It seems too "perfect". Since when is accuracy that well defined? Did half the melee world just miss this?

I personally went Darksteel +1 / Tungi and kept one viking axe on me in case I needed more acc on some mobs (when moving to a new camp for example). As stated before though with sushi, haubergeon, chiv chain acc was rarely an issue so I would stick to the extra damage. I didn't have a Francisca back then or I would have used it at 63 (I got it only after war was already 75).

With sushi, aggresor and some Acc gear like hauby, snipers and chiv chain there is no need for a Vikings Axe. It is definitely not worth giving up the Tungi for. Oh and get the DS +1. You'll get your gil back when you sell it later on.

Darksteel Axe+1 is probably the best axe around that level for damage and with it's decent base damage and low delay, it works for quite a few levels. Viking is also a good axe as well; however, (I can't confirm stats, at work now) it is level 48 and has a rather low base damage. +10 accuracy is a lot to pass up, but you should be able to get a decent amount in other gear options and from sushi. I will say this though, although Tungi and Darksteel Axe+1 have the highest DPS of any axe available for WAR up until around 70ish, don't forgoe any high base damage, high delay axe just because of that. Rampage is a huge part of our damage (assuming you only do TP burn) and you have to chose a good balance between DPS and spike damage. I think I chose Darksteel pick+1(level 63?) if I remember correctly because it had a much higher base damage than the axe even with the hugh increase in delay. Once you get to 67-68, you can get the Francheska axe off of the NM crab in Boyada and the axe from the NM goblin in Kuftal Tunnel.

Thanks for the responses on this. I am planning on picking up the Darksteel +1, just not the one thats currently on sale on the AH. Looks like i'll be putting the Viking back in storage ^^

Also, when I do hit lvl 63 I am going to have the Francisca available (have had that forever in storage) so i'm assuming that main handing that, and offhanding Tungi at that point is the better choice?

Yeah mainhand the higher base dmg axe, also if you know a high level blacksmith friend or ls mate you can ask if they can HQ it for you, the darksteel axe +1. Just takes 2 darksteel ingot and oak lumber. Save like 70k to 50k.

Fran/Tungi would be a pretty solid choice. It is what myself and a friend of mine did when we were leveling our WARs. It speed of that combo is very good.

I also advice you to start camping Acha d'Armas. This axe isn't as easy to get as a Tungi or a Fran. The goblin can be a real pain in the ass to pop. Maybe you will get lucky and it will pop fast.

All the best

Thanks for the tip on the smithing, but sadly I don't know of any high lvl crafters. The price of the Darksteel +1 just went back to the regular price anyways today, so i'm sure i'll be able to pick one up soon.

And luckily I did manage to get Achas d'Armas, 1/4 though. That reminds me, I gotta go camp this guy for a friend of mine.

thanks again for confirming the weapon choices.

DS+1/tungi then Franny/DS+1 is the best imo

Let me elaborate on that a little bit. Pretty much from 60-?? Tabarzin i think. You only need 4 axes. That is pretty awesome, especially since 3 are ra/ex. So I think its ok to justify paying the high price for DS+1 especially since you will be selling it and using that gil to put towards your next buyable axe upgrade. At least thats how I would look at it.

Damage does not matter as much in your offhand weapon, but the lower delay on the Tungi will help balance out the higher delay on the Franny.

EDIT: Also I keep my Darksteel Axe +1 around for level capped events. You probably shouldn't sell this unless you don't plan on doing any capped events that require your Warrior or Beastmaster or whatever else.
