I'm leveling BRD at the moment [60] and was wondering about Lullaby. I have a mary's horn at the moment which of course has "Lullaby+1".

I'm more worried because a player told me that the "Nursemaid's Harp" even though it is "Lullaby+2" still isnt as good as a "Mary's horn", at first I was like "What?"

But they said they had parsed it....

I've done some research, the base duration of lullaby if it lands is 30 seconds, each "+1" adds another 3 seconds to the base duration.

I noticed that alot of BRD players hardly used Stringed Instruments so I thought,

"Maybe they parsed it but they lacked Stringed instrument skill, compared to Wind instrument skill"

I just wanted to double check this with some other players to see if they can help, so any help would be appreciated.

Should I stick with the Mary's horn, or tough it up, skill up my stringed instrument skill and get the Harp?

TY!

Its my understanding that Wind would be used for closer range, single target. But String would be for wide-range AoE.

I could be completely wrong though, its happened before.

no, you're right. though mary's horn is not a game breakingly better item. I'm cheap and just use nursemaid's for both, and don't encounter problems.

end-all-be-all, nursemaids for horde, mary's horn for foe.

Also, that's practically the ONLY use for stringed, that's why no one uses it as much as flutes and the like.

Ok, I'm lost. Why not use +2 for foe?

Here's some info from ffxiclopedia. Might help explain some things.

ffxiclopedia said:
Instruments used by a Bard to add effects to fellow party members or a party's enemy. Most of the instruments give boosts to certain songs that can be sung by a bard, which is why it's always great to have the +1 versions of the instruments.

Buff songs played with String Instruments have an area of effect that starts at 10' when you first learn the song, and rise with your String skill to a maximum of 20'. For instance, at String Instrument Skill 225 (cap for level 75) Ballad 1 sung with String has an area of 20', and Ballad 2 has an area of 13'. Adding +10 String skill from equipment or merits raises the Ballad 2 area to 14'. String may also increase the area covered by Horde Lullaby, but this is unverified.

Debuff songs played with String Instruments have lower Magic Accuracy than songs played with Wind Instruments. The Nursemaid's Harp and Sorrowful Harp increase the songs' effects more than Mary's Horn and Piccolo +1, but make it harder to land the songs.

Each +1 to a song on an instrument increases its duration by 10%, and also increases its effect. All buff songs have a base duration of 120 seconds, or 2 minutes.

Okay that helps, suppose I better go log in and start playing a harp.

1 more Question:

If skill improves the range of stringed instruments.

The more wind instrument skill you have improves magic accuracy?

...or is it something else.

Point is Nursemaid's Harp really sucks. Anything String Skill related really sucks and its a real waste to get. If your bard is focused on end-game. Hardcore meriting, you should get a Mary's Horn to get ur game up. Im not gonna laugh @ anyone because they get a nursemaid's but once you get a Mary's you gonna see the difference and never gonna let it go. It will get ur sleep resists down to about 10% which is the less it can be @.
