I was told that if a GM is called on you, they can check your chat logs. I've also observed that when you log out out POL then back in your chat logs are wiped... So my question is if you log out of POL then back in, can the GM still check your chat logs?

Don't ask why. It's a funny story though :)

Yes. I don't feel like saying how i got a chat log from ffxi , but it can be done. (Theres a file in FFXI that saves your chat logs, even tho it gets wiped when you logout)

The GM is not reading the Chat Log on your Computer, he is reading the Server Logs. Everything passes though the server and is logged there as well.

Can they still access that? If so can you PM me a way to clear my logs? :P

-edit-
Aah Pascal posted that while i was writing this message.

But damn that's a LOT of stuff for the server to log. Can you imagine the space it takes to log everything that is said, emoted, shouted, told, /party, or /linkshelled? I figured that they had a way of making your POL client send the logs that they wanted. Seems more space efficient that way.

It really isn’t that much to log, when you consider everything else the servers is logging and storing. I’m sure they also are clearing log entrees after a certain time. My guess would be after 4 to 6 hours (maybe less). It wouldn’t be effective to recall the client log since that could be cleared or altered.

At least that's an almost acceptable reason for the servers going down lol

I'm not entirely sure, but i beleive that would be illegal.

If it works like any other MMO, the server logs everything (and I mean everything), and these logs are purged every X amount of time. On the other hand, the client side logs are so when you pull up your chat log in game (cntl+F) and read those. THose are purged much more often, and are local only. All server logs are searchable, usually in a database format, so they are very easy to search via a GM tool. Its really nothing in comparison to the overhead of all the processing of game play and characters, not to mention compensating for latency.

If there is something you dont want a GM to see... you shouldn't have done it in the first place. Nothing online is private, unless its your server, and your cables, and your computer, the whole way through. And even then, you never know who is looking over your shoulder. I worked in network administration long enough to know this. Privacy is an illusion.

Hehe i'm sure that it has purged by now so no worries. :) What happened was, we spent 2 hours forming a party in jeuno, half an hour running to boyahda tree, and as soon as we get there, our flippin' DRK decides to go to another party and tells us he's "Helping his LS". We spend another hour trying to find another member and finally disband.

The thief who had formed the party was pissed at the guy and convinced me to help him get back at the DRK. He hit Flee and ran around getting a lot of crabs and crawlers and when he started running back to where I was standing by the party, I start casting teleport. He hit Perfect dodge and we teleported away leaving 6 crabs and 2 crawlers by the deserter.

I felt really bad for doing it but it was strangely satisfying. First time I've ever done something like that and I doubt I'll do it again b/c it doesn't just hurt the person I have an issue with.

Oh well. Flame me for training but I feel like I was justified in spending 4 hours waiting because of this retard. :/

The other five people didn't deserve to die. That was an ass move period. You got them killed through association. Not cool.

care to elaborate?

Briefly:

The person that left when they got there joined another party.

They trained the mobs and tele'd outta there leaving them in the area of the Asshat that left.

I assume the rest of the party was standing there also which ultimately got them all killed.

I think,

Mo...

I know that if I'm in a party of 5 and we are looking for a 6th and we get one and I'm killed by training because our 6th offered to join another group before ours how am I deserving of death?

Oh that wasn't directed towards you Mo. :D

To elaborate.

I'm in a party of five and I am not the leader.

/p <leader> I'm looking for a sixth.
/p <members> Okay.
/l <leader> Hey is anyone available to join out party? We're loking for one tank/DD/healer/nuker/fill in withwhatever the need is.
/l <GuyWhoDitchedHisOtherParty> Sure I liked partying with you the last time.
/p <leader> Sweet I found someone.
/p <members> Sweet. Lets get this started.

Time passes and the party is getting decent exp. All the while ,unbeknownst to the party I'm theoretically in, the party that got screwed over by our 6th member is seething mad. They can't find a 6th and eventually people disband ruining there night. Remember that my party is completly ignorant to this fact. Suddenly we're trained and dead. All I'm left wondering is why.

/p WTF!!!

[/Elaborate]

Simply said it was an ass move. Sindern you still have never done anything to me in-game so we're still cool if we meet in-game and I'm glad that you feel some remorse about doing it. So :D

I kinda got pressured into it and I asked for flames. :) But I found out that the guy ditched us b/c his game wife's party needed a member. And noone died. They did disband though I think. And yeah kurgon that's the most asshole thing I've ever done and is extremely out of charachter for me.

Oh they knew. We /slapped the shit out of the guy for a while and got a few /laughs in return from him and other party members.
