I hit 73 Samurai today and I'm curious what other samurai choose to use for their gloves. Eventually I plan to get Myochin kote +1 or one of the ogre braceletts to macro in for weaponskills, but for meleeing my choices at the moment are Ochuido's kote, Saotome Kote, and Hachiman kote. Bandomusha Kote would be on the list too, but then there would be no reason for Ochuido's and I also do not have Bandomusha, while I do have the other three.

Ochuido's kote are 20 attack, and are the best in terms of just pure damage. The only one that is useful in level capped areas.

Saotome Kote is 10 attack, but enhances meditate, although I could just macro those in along with my AF head.

Hachiman Kote is 4 STR, Store TP +8, and give 10 attack when I have more than 100% TP. Lately I've been wearing these as part of my normal melee gear to build TP faster; but I've also been using them for the 4 STR for weaponskills.

Basically what my question boils down to is this, should I sell my Ochuido's kote and use Saotome for meleeing? I wear melee gloves on monk, so monk is not a consideration in this decision. I'd like to hear what some samurai's who have used Saotome vs Ochuido's kote; is the 10 attack really noticable? This whole thing might become moot and I'll stick with wearing Hachiman kote so that I'll have 102% TP in 6 hits, but I'd still like to hear what samurai's who have had this question themselves decided. Obviously I could keep Ochuido's kote for meleeing and macro in my other 2 gloves whenever I need them, but if they are not much better than Saotome then I could use the money from Ochuido's towards something else.

Hmm, you know, on second thought maybe this should have gone into endgame discussion, since it's pertaining to only endgame levels. Could a mod please move this for me?

Moved for you Baj. Unfortunately, I can't help you in the melee department. I have no idea what's good & what isn't at those levels.

I'm not a SAM, but I'd go
O.kote for TP gain, (+20 attack is massive)
Sao for Meditate, (self-explanatory)
and Hachiman for WS

A difference of +10 attack can be very noticable on IT mobs, but it all depends on what you're fighting. especially in the ToAU areas, it's not as noticable because due to your natural skill and other gear, the attack isn't going to do as much. That's when STR comes into play.

Basically, I'd agree with Necro on this, except I don't think the O Kote is very necessary. Save Saotome for Meditate, and stick with Hachiman otherwise.

Get yourself up to 17 TP per hit. That is the TP needed (well, 16.7 but lol) to get 100 TP in 6 hits/5 after WS. You will prolly want to start out meleeing with Hachiman hands and feet, and as you get 75 and merit and open up new gear choices, you might want to adjust again.

Also, dusk gloves are a pretty good option as well, samurai can get a nice haste build at 75 (would really only recommend if you have B. haidate).

Alot of these things are also very situational, depending on what exactly you are doing, and what you are fighting as well. (Hagun is the best GKt in pretty much any situation, except for WS at 300tp ^^)

Yeah, with my current +store TP build, I'm at 100% every 6 hits; but that's while wearing hachiman hands. I didn't know samurai could wear dusk gloves, that's another option I might consider later on. No hagun though, I might get one to try out if I end up selling my Ochuido's kote, but right now I can't afford it.

Ideally you want as much Attk + Acc for TP build, and STR for your WS. I'm sure Hachiman Kote, and Saotome are fine, and maybe you won't notice, but they're not the "best"

I personally use Bandomusha Kote for TP, and STR bracelets for WS. I have Saotome as well, but only use them on my Med macro.

As for Store TP setup. It takes +21 Store TP to get 100 in 6 swings. The only thing I'd stay away from is using Hachiman Domaru or anything else that has much better pieces available. You don't want to gimp yourself too bad obtaining 100 in 6 hits, or it's going to be counter-productive.

Ideal setup would be:

5 store TP merits +10
Rajas + 5
Hachiman Sune-ate +5
Brutal +1 (or chiv chain)

That will get you there without gimping anything too much. I still cringe at not being able to use my Saotome Sune-ate. +5 DEX +8 attk is damn sexy for tp build setup.

Well, until I get to merits, my options on how to reach 21+ TP is fairly limited. My only variable options at this point are to exchange my hachiman domaru with hachiman haidate. This is the Store TP setup that I have:

Hachiman Domaru (+6)
Hachiman Kote (+8 )
Hachiman Sune-ate (+5)
Chivalrous chain (+1)
Rajas Ring (+5)

Once I can get the +10 in merits, then I can start playing around more with gear. From what I've heard so far, I think I'll hold onto the Ochuido's and continue to use Hachiman's until I can get more gear options.

i build TP with Saotome and ws with Alky. it works for me.

Baj just said (s)he can't afford an O.Kote. I don't think Alky is an option right now. ^^;

I already have Ocuido's kote, I was trying to determine if I should sell them or not.

i would keep them. 10 atk is a big amount imo. only thing replaceing it for tp would be dusk or bando. just split your med macro into two, make for easyier sc i think. i my memory serves me, it's +24 storetp for 6/100. base storetp in a 450 delay GK is 14.29. (14.29 + 2.40 = 16.79 * 6 = 100.14)

so 5 tp merits +10
rajas +5
h.kote +8
brutal or chivy +1

so if your hell bent on 6/100, keep them. if not use o.kote/braclets

~~(14.29 * 7 = 100.03) with no store merit or gear btw

Misread and thought O.kote, not Hagun ><

Ideally, a massive acc build and meat would benefit you more than attack and sushi, in my experience.

GKT skill on sam is A+, if you had Bushinomimi laying around as well, and time to really merit, then full gkt merits and an acc build with meat would be a great way to go. The only problem with that really, is that sam is rarely used for a massive DD, and more for /thf to get alot of consistent SCs in for BLMs to MB on. Attack food with /thf just seems like wasted potential to me, since berserk and att food compliment eachother soooo well. SAM/WAR with enough acc in merits and other things with attack food would be a monster, the only problem would be finding a situation that takes advanage of that, without getting yourself killed and still remaining useful without the use of /thf.

Really depends on what you plan on using your sam for since you are already almost done lvling it for exp. Please dont melee in Saotome kote though >.< Should be Meditate macro only and then melee in somthing better, either Hachiman, Dusk, or O. Kote. And Hagun is really the best GKT there is, take the time to save up and get one.

Eh, I'm going to have to borrow a hagun to try it out before I decide to get one for myself. I love my soboro, full TP in 2 rounds is going to be very hard to beat.

I'll stick with my current gloves for now, but once I get some store TP merits, I'll compare Ochuido's vs Saotome and any other gloves I have then. If I like Hagun, I could sell my Ochuido's to buy one.

this can be very true.... because meat will give you more attack than gear will.. however... this only works on mobs that arent crazy evasive :) even w/ merits.

Just popping a sushi with no acc gear gives more acc than most people can slap on in gear. It's a % modifier of your total accuracy and most of that is coming from your skill and base stats not from the acc gear. I've had someone parse me before and if I do my max acc setup (+41) with atk food I get around 80% hit rate. If I do sushi and put on more atk/str gear I hit for 94%. This was on imps btw which aren't exactly hard to hit.

While it's true that atk food gives you a better boost than most people's atk gear, so does sushi give you more acc than your acc gear. So statistically speaking if your atk food doesn't boost you by 12-15% damage output then eating sushi is better becuase you're going to hit 12-15% more often. I know for me it's better to suck down the sushi for xp parties and the str/atk chow when doing gods.
