Question for you Drks

Heey~ How is everybody doing? Jolly good I hope.

Chea, I'm a 64 whm wondering what job is next for me. I've been told that I'd like Drk, so... want to give that a try!

Now I've been saying I'd level this job..for..forever. I did get it to 25, but I honestly don't think I am that great.

What do I need to know in order to be an acceptable drk? Any macros I should jot down? Do I keep GS and Scythe capped? Should I focus on marksmanship? Subs? blaaaa...blaaa...blaa...

Thanks for your time

I only have the job at lvl 19, so all I can give is advice based on friends that have lvled the job. One thing for sure is to definitely have both Scyth and Great Sword capped.

As for subjobs I've always preferred having the DRK in my party sub WAR, though after lvl 60 it can become situational as sometimes having /THF works if your party setup needs to control the hate a little more. So in otherwords, it would be good to have both lvled just depending on what your party may need.

Not sure about the macros though, but maybe someone else can give you some good ones.

I think DRK is a fun job myself, but from what I hear the invites can be slow which is probably due to the popularity of having a NIN tank, and well... just be sure that if you do lvl DRK and you get into a party with a NIN, make sure its a good one, otherwise you'll probably have to hold back on a few of your job abilities. But if a slower invite rate in comparison to your WHM isn't a problem, then you'll probably enjoy the job.

You'll mainly be using great sword for light skillchains, but it'd be a good idea to cap scythe as well. SE has said they want more drk's to use scythe, so having it as an option would be good. For merit parties you might try drk/nin with dual axes as well.

If you can manage to keep all 3 capped, I'd highly recommend using great axe until about lv40. Sturmwind is too hot to pass up, especially with Souleater.

At lv30 you can buy an Axe Belt for about 10k, which adds 5atk and 5acc if you go /war. This actually makes your GA skill equivalent to scythe or GS until lv39 I think.

If you want to have everythign available and be flexible for every exp situation.

1-49 GS/Scythe/GA
50-73 GS/Scythe
74-75 GS/Scythe/Axe/Sword

I have played with about every kind of setup possible and there are alot of setups that get the job done. IMO if you want to do the axe thing 74 plus get sword up as well. I parsed better Maneater/Company sword then I did a Woodvilles/Maneater combo. I love my scythe, I use it 90% of the time, however ask another long term DRK and they will have a different opinion.

Basically what I do is, if im /WAR use Scythe, /THF use GS, /NIN use scythe or axe/sword combo.

Having Marksmanship lvled is nice, however especially 60+ it will suck on exp mobs.

All that said if you want to do the bare minimum, WAR and THF sub, and Scythe and GS weapons need to be capped.

It's not too important. You will usually miss anyway, and post 60 you miss even more. At 63, you will want a bomb core, which means ditching the Xbow and using darts to pulls, since swaping in and out the Xbow will cause you to lose TP.

Once you get to 50, you can easily keep both scyth and GS levelled during normal XP party play (provided they were already capped of course).

Oh, and you need to think of some very Emo macros for Soul Eater, Last Resort and Blood Weapon. Otherwise you can't play DRK.

"Cut my life into pieces!! This is my (Last Resort)!!"
"Losing my life to take yours! (Souleater)"

and while leveling up, if your even just decently equipped you will need one of these macros to let the tank know something.

"Get this fucking mob off me to lazy piece of shit tank!"

And remember our plan, Evy;
We do search comments: "MUST INVITE [opposite person here]"

You'll lv up SOOO fast with a bard to get you parties chea >.>

That was your idea, actually.

Go lv up drk...

wait wait wait wait wait. I've seen enough emo drg macros to compete with drks. Most of has to do with their pigeon and jumping from the heavens.

Probably just repeating already said info, but i'll give you my 2.5 cents. Screw Marksmamship. You will be asked to pull al times, but you will indeed miss the majority of the time. Keep both GS and Scythe capped at all times. DRK is one of those jobs that you hate to love. Or. . you just hate. EMODRK no thx. As for macros, Make the macro's that you feel are best. Use your own judgment. Anyways. Peace.

PS~ Stack up on acc as much as possible. You WILL miss :)

It's a common misconception that drks have worse acc than other jobs. This isn't true. You just notice misses more because your weapon is a lot slower. As long as you're pretty decently geared up acc-wise you'll be fine.

Heh, I never said we didn't. I had one for Super Jump and I have a feeling that is what you are referring to lol I wanted the tank to know that I was shedding my hate.

Only advise i can really give is keep scythe capped as best you can, but dont slack off on GS. Nothing makes you more emo then stopping from lvling at 66 to get your GS up to speed. As far as Drks using Axes at 74-75 i really dont see a point. I parse so much better with scythe. And i have tried about every combination of axes you can get. Sure Souleater+Rampage will usually do a bit more, but souleater guillotine has almost always been better for me. Plus if you use axes you have to use sole pretty much, the skill is just too low to be of use without.

As for macros, keep it simple. My souleater macro is just a very simple /em /wrist. I choose not to want to kill myself more by cutting my life in to pieces with a last resort macro. Just too overused to be cool.

And that acc issue is pretty lame. I stacked on mostly atk+ gear, but throw in a little bit of acc and use sole and your good to go. Even as an elvaan. And in merit parties now i can use meat food and still hit hard enough to make up for the occassional missed swings with the scythe, which again i couldnt afford to do with axe.

i was waiting for the "emo drk macros" comments to appear. :P

one more thing when you get souleater, dont use it unless you have a compotent healer and be mindfull when you do. you'll draw hate fast and stack up alot of it with your dmg from it.
