Err...

Exactly why cant SE do anything against gil-sellers again?

Because they are based in hong kong. China does not give a damn about international piracey acts. Nor does the end users agreement hold up in court.

They're supposed to, according to the User agreement. But since SE's bottomline is not impacted at all, because these gil merchants bring them a monthly fee, SE doesn't care. Two real solutions but highly unlikely:
1) Enough people stop playing FFXI for this sole reason which impacts SE's bottom line.
2) People stop buying gil with real world currency.

Since this most likely not going to happen. Vilgilante groups form, (which I will soon be joining), and overall harassment of these gil merchants. Not a solution, but so much more attainable.

Yeah but...

Normally people can file a complain to a GM right ie. Bot fishing etc.?

I mean cmon someone should email S-E and tell them it's a general complaint from everyone? I'm sure theyd do something to provide a better experience for players.

If you file a complaint they'll send you a letter saying, basicly, please dont' report this anymore, it's a leagal issuse, we're looking into it...or at least that's what happened when i reported one of the Fox group.

Yea, I do not believe that SE and every other MMoRPG out there is ignoring IGE.com. I just believe they can not do ANYTHING about it. What can they do, close acounts? They will make new ones.

If they closed accounts it would be highly unprofitable to the sellers though. Either by buying new accounts of 50+ characters for a few 100$ US, or by having to start over wasting time lvling again.

i think the major reason SE doesn't do anything about gil sellers is that it requires that they investigate those who are accused of being gil sellers. Unlike fishbotting, you cannot test that the person is a gil seller by simply sending them a tell and not getting a response. In contrast is would be rather difficult to prove that these people were selling their gil. The effort that SE would have to put forth to start banning these players, at this point, would probably cost more then they think it is worth. Honestly, i do not think SE will really crack down on them until they start losing subscribers who inform SE that the reason they quit the game was b/c gil farmers were ruining their game experiance.

I'm hoping that with the release of Everquest 2, and the upcoming release of World of Warcraft (I don't know when that's supposed to be), that the number of gil sellers will go down. Those two MMORPG's are probably going to be more popular that FFXI (Probably, haha. More like they already are). So with the popularity of other MMORPG's, the demand for currency in-game for them should be higher that FFXI, and they'll make more money in those games than FFXI. Only a hope and theory though.

Yea the servers are going to be ALOT less crowded when EQ II and WoW come out. That should hurt the gil sellers more then anythig. They can not imediatly shift to a new game because they do not know where to go and what is profitablt. It apears to take about a year or two before they get a good strangelhold on a server. The "Looser" PVP will be a help and a hinderence I think. If you are high enough to keep them down then you are in good shape, lowbies may have issues.

I made a complain about the gilsellers in zitah and this is all they have to say;
