Trying to use as large of a vocabulary as possible doesn't make the excuses any better. If you know someone is trash and tolerate it, hanging around with them and such, you are just as bad.
People who associate with trash are trash. Simple words for a simple concept that requires none of this ridiculous analysis you're going into.
Simple, easy things to digest are more than often incorrect when it comes to these type of issues. If you want me to put it simply for you.
First, your statement "People who associate with trash are trash."
The first problem is associate. You give me or anyone else any bright line as to how far association goes. Is it talking, is it partying, is it purchasing a good from? I tend to think since you posted your statement in this context you at least believe that being in the same LS is a form of association. What many people don't know is in TheFlock specifically there are people who use it only as a social shell as a BST and really have little interaction with any LS activities other than that. Even though these people never show up at endgame events you assume that the conduct of those who do is parallel to those who don't because you have decided their behavior is determinant on the social space (I can assume you can understand what that means) you reference them by in terms of 'association'.
What this gets at here is association is a term directly linked to perceived social connection which works at different frames of reference. You play FFXI, an observer would therefore associate you as the FFXI player base, their perceived notions about that player base in someway apply to you from their perspective. Another frame of reference would be endgame, linkshell, party, consumer etc. These are like nesting dolls and often overlap (like a venn diagram) and by looking at one alone (atomizing) you miss the big picture.
Following from your logic, not mine this is also true. Gilsellers are trash, you are associated with RMT by purchasing their goods, you are associated with RMT and are therefore trash (you can control this, you quit the game just like you quit those LSs). You may say, but buying from RMT in that way is not association, well maybe you shouldn't have been so simplistic about it? This is what I mean when I say you assume that associations are 'zero-sum games'. Garvin is calling himself trash, I'm not, keep this in mind. And really he should just delink himself from everything if he wants to escape his self indictment.
See how it can take three paragraphs to deconstruct one word. Its because the surface is easy its simple and often wrong.
Next is trash. This is pretty straightforward, I assume you have a definition of what trash is. Lets say A is Trash which has certain features of your choosing. These, even if they overlap with many people's associations (oh no!) with the word do not guarantee they are going to be exactly similar, but this isn't the main argument. Now if A and B are in the same linkshell and A is obviously Trash to you it would follow that B is also Trash, guaranteed without a doubt A and B are equivalent with your definition of Trash. But, this is problematic because what you are saying is that it isn't entirely their equivalent adherence to the definition of Trash that makes B such, its their association, which is of an entirely different nature. So really, what you are saying is A and B aren't equivalent because they are inherently the same in characteristics but by an entirely different definition (their association). Therefore, lets say that A is undeniably Trash to you, B could therefore be anything, anything at all yet still be equivalently A due to an association which is defined by completely different factors. Thats just nonsense.
I could go on, but I won't in this post. To conclude: Garvin is trash, because he said so.
