Question: Temporarily Canceling account

I have fought with the Customer support and GM's but neither of them answered me with a strait answer.

How can I cancel my account to wave the monthly fee but keep my characters safe?

You cancel the account, your characters are protected for at least 3 months after you cancel. I've canceled for a month a few times and never had any problems. Basically just disable the payments and you should be good.

Cancel all your Content ID's

Yeah, I've done that before. Cancel your FFXI content IDs (they will still be good for the remainder of that month until they do the registration update) and then just re-input your CC info and reactivate your IDs and you'll be back to normal as long as you do it within 3 months (I've heard it work up to 6 months, but better safe than sorry). As long as you don't delete the actual characters they are left completely in tact.
