Quetzy Population is decreasing? And about Server Hopping Rumor

I remember between 4,000 and 5,000 people in summer '04.
Then...

3,000 ish
2,300 ~ 2,500 steady every night I log on now.

Agreed. That is exactly what I am seeing myself.

The server population is shrinking and noticably so, with the loss of PS2 HDD support the influx of new players from there has barely been a trickle, and most new PC gamers go to WoW. This trend might reverse with the new expansion pack, might, I doubt it honestly. I see the 360 release having the most impact however.

I wonder.....if things go so bad where two servers where having alot of ppl leave the game......would SE fuse the two servers together?

I truly hope the population drops more. Means of production in this game for end game gear is capped (eg: You can only get so much gear from gods and HNMs per day). If the population drops, demand will not exceed supply so much anymore and prices won't be so outrageous for end game gear.

Good chance of that. EQ did the same thing.

I checked FFXI on around 10ishPM EST, and i only see around 2.3k, then 4-5 hours later, it drop back down to 1.8k

This server has never been too large, or so I heard, but I'm sure it's always roughly the same, and it's nice that you get to know just about everyone and most know you too.

I notice there always seem to be a lot of new players joining this game though.

I'd just like to point out, that this was posted yesterday (a thursday) and talks about it today (friday) well...hate to break it to you peeps, but I'd wager the better part of my gil that you're just not looking at peak play times.
WEEKENDS! <-----------
Check then, you'll see, there's still plenty of people

I honestly hope that when expansion comes out, they allow a server hop, because if they do, GOOD BYE QUETZ!

Noo, not you Odon! They should allow us to vote people off Quetzy if they do that, Quetzalcoatl Survivor, I'd be voting off Bumblebitch, Blazn, and a few others :P

it depends on which server they let you go to. if they make a new server or if they let you hop to other lesser populated ones.

I've noticed the peak numbers steadily dropping. The game has a lot of life left in it but before the end there will server merges. On a Friday 2-3 weeks ago at 10pm eastern I found ~2300 people on but by midnight it was up to 3500. That seemed strange to me compared to the prior years of play.

Besides there use to be 3500 players on all the time during the weekdays. I'd log in on a Wednesday at 4pm eastern and there would be at least 3k on all the time, if not more.

i agree with rones here less people mean less people stiking toward same item. I think over population one the biggest reason for half the inflation problem we been having and also why the amount of gil buyers have double maybe triple of what was last year

I think i would like to server hop, but i'd loose friends :(. SE said something about being able to moove servers.... not sure tho. Also, this game is about to sky rocket with people. Think about It. 1. People coming from Xbox 360. 2. People returning (which is on the rise) for ToAU or whatever reasons. 3. People just joining the game. Remeber how it sky rocketed when PS2 users got it? I believe sooner then later, that the population will be 3,500 easy at peak hours.

I believe one of the developers said something along the lines of it being very possible and easy to implement server hopping. They made it sound like they were talking about being able to pick which server you wanted to log onto each time you logged in, but that sounds a little odd to me, so I'm not sure what they were talking about. I think the topic was brought up in the interview when they asked about a possible server jump with the 360 launch, but a strait answer wasn't really given at the time.

Is possible to have server hopping, Guild War have that feature, if this server is too laggy, too populated, and too crowed, too annoying, etc, you can switch into less crowed server.

In my opinion, if SE do allow server hopping, they better charge us hell a lot of gil to transfer into a other server (to decrease the flow of gil in a server). if it a free switch, a lot of asshole and noob gonna go all around the server and mess our economy up with their stupidness, i say SE charge us 10mil to hop into a new server :O

I think you have that backwards. If you allow server hopping then the economy would actually balance itself better. Just for the simple fact that instead of only one place to go to get an item you now have 30+ different places to go to get an item.

don't think it'll be balance... we all know there is a lot of greedy people out there they will go int a a server to find which server sell a stuff for the highest amount..

Let say healing staff,

for example, Quezty = 6mil (IF!)
Alexander = 2mil
Shiva = 5mil
Fenrir = 50mil

Almost all people who want to sell healing staff will go to Fenrir server and hope it can be sold, and there will be like 40 heal staff in stock for 50mil lol and none in stock in other server, but eventually, price will go down because of the few demand it had, but that not gonna be wayyyyyyyyyyyy later...

Hopping server = increase inflation
Hopping server that charge gil = decrease inflation
