Are we really to the point on this site where someone will be banned for saying "Shut the fuck up", but not for racial slurs multiple times in the same post?

I wanted to post this in the StanDarsh ban thread, but its locked now, soooooo yeah.

Darsh was initially banned for being a sockpuppet, which is beyond ridiculous. Whether or not you want to ban him for language is another matter.

Also, Skaw said a bit worse than 'Shut the Fuck Up'.

Where is apathetic Sculli when you need him :(

No, "Shut the fuck up" is exactly what Skaw said and got reported for. I got reported for saying the exact same thing.

Darsh being banned isn't ridiculous at all, since his IP matched that of a banned member; unless you're dumb enough to believe in the magical router. Mods, what's going on with that?

Sums the situation up pretty well, I think.

Since when did Skaw know David Morse?

Oh. I thought that was a given

But, House really was addicted to vicodin, therefore the analogy would show that Skaw is really guilty of flamebaiting.

Not in the slightest. How the hell do you go from addicted to vicodin to flamebaiting?

Anyways, I am all for telling people to shut the fuck up.

That wasn't really the analogy I was going for, but even still, one of the major points of that plot arc was calling into question what defines an "addiction", and at what point is it actually something to be controlled, fought, and concerned with. As much as I think every thread still should actually be a House thread...

tl;dr: Not really.

:) Shut The Fuck Up !!

~sorry just thought it flowed well~

It wasn't the STFU comment that was made. Something about penis and something else about banned...

That wasn't why he got banned, but the STFU comment is why both he and I got reported.

What's going on with Darsh's stockpuppetness?

some people feel the need to push the limits as far as they can go...

And some feel the need to flex their orange/red names over people who call them out.

The "flambating" rule never had a solid precedent, and it still doesn't. Mods just enforce it whenever they feel they can use it to their advantage.

He is not Yusuke. That was my mistake.
That is why I reversed my actions and let another mod look at it.

Please, if you're going to get bent out of shape on something, scream at me for making the mistake on banning him as a sockpuppet.

Flameboard Rules said:
Flameboard Reference!
1. RL Identifiable Information - strictly forbidden (update 1/08 - emphasis on word 'identifiable')
2. Racial slurs - strictly forbidden

[...]

It is quite apparent that rule #2 applies. The sockpuppet is wrong (once again, I'll shout if again if people need me to, that was my mistake). The racial slur infraction is correct.

I split out the StanDarsh post as the OP to a new thread with all comments regarding my permaban epic fail and any crap related to it. It is locked, so no new crap can be added to it. The board also refused all my attempts to then soft delete the OP AND leaving the thread viewable by the masses. (I wouldn't want anyone to shout cover up.) So, I just edited the post after reporting the original contents of the original post.

Here's the rub. I can't find any pertinent punishments in the recent history of QCDN for this offense. I could only find these:

July 2007
For repeated mentioning of a sensitive RL subject, the user Calv/Godofdeath has been tempbanned for 7 days.

This period may be extended, or lifted. It's a gray area that I will be tabling to the mods.

As it stands right now the ban will be lifted at 11am PDT on July 11th.

February 2007
Codyf has been temporarily banned for 10 days due to posting offensive images and material that are against the rules. Throughout his thread "Charcoip you piece of shit" its evident that his responses are intended to having some reprocussions, so you get what you asked for.

Ban will be lifted on March 5th, unless otherwise decided by the moderating team.

How relative these punishments are is yet to be determined. Admins have the ability also view infractions given, moderators do not. Infractions may have been given in some instances with racial slurs and they should also weigh on the duration of any action taken.

Quick Summary:
All in all, we see the same problem you do. We have a list of recommended actions, and the punishment for racial slurs is not on that list. Whether you respect my credibility or not, this is the best thing I can offer. We will have to discuss what seems reasonable in the mod forum.

I think this also needs a comment. The system was actually changed a little bit because I/we felt the same way. It didn't seem right that someone would get 1 warning, and then no matter when or what the next infraction was, they started climbing the mountain of ban penalties. 3day > 7day > 14day > 30day > perma.

Right now, for the 'silly' flamebait posts, the infraction points dissolve after 30 days from the last offense. So say you have 4 points from one flamebait on 1/1/2008. on 2/1/2008, you go back down to 0 points with the record showing you have an expired infraction.

If we notice the member using this 'loophole' as a way to flamebait knowing they won't get banned, then the mod may use discretion to up the ante. However, no, singular flamebaits alone should not get you banned. 2 in rapid succession can. 3 or more, for sure 7 days.

This is a much more flexible system, and a little more standardized than what everyone fears recently has become a megalomania complex; "ZOMG I DO EET CAUSE I AM MOD!".

Except that its still the mods giving out the infractions, and can do so for anything they deem "inappropriate." For example, if you decided you wanted to ban me, all you'd have to do is look back at things i'd posted in the last couple days (which would be acceptable because you can't read everything every day, and thus handing out infractions for things a couple days old doesn't seem so bad) and then go "Whoops, 3 infractions at one time, b&." Which is pretty much what happened to Skaw.
