Quick Questions about DRGs

Um... That is why there are 4 Dragoon. Healing Breath is very strong, and can cure for stronger than a Cure 3 with as little as 6mp. DRG is self-sustaining.

The funny thing is we have done it before. We had plenty of time to LFG, so on several occasions, I was in a DRG cannon.

didnt i hear someone in my ls speak of nmk mnk mnk mnk drg drg(1 mnk may have been brd) getting chain 40 on trolls in Mt. Zhayolm?

I think one of my best and more fun parties was an all drg party in the early 60's. We had 6 DRGs, half /whm, /war/, /brd and I forget the last. We chained the shit out of birds non-stop and got sooo much exp. There was no down time. Healing breath did it's job and we just flew.

I think it depends on the mob type though. Bats, Colibris, Puks would be good, not so bad TP moves and weak to peircing. The party I was in we were pulling like a bit over 8k an hour, and at 63ish it rocks <3

I was in a party with Efrost the other day in Mt. Zhayolm (sp?), and we fought Trolls.

The setup was MNK/WAR, MNK/NIN, BRD/NIN, RDM/WHM, DRG/WHM, DRG/WHM

Hi2u no competition and Chain 30+ and omg DRG main healer.

Whatever DRG, do it and tell me how it turns out. Healing breath wont save your ass against an IT for very long and if it does, your wyvrn is pretty dead and it won't be saving you for another 10 minutes.

One healing breath costs 7 MP on /WHM (Dia), and with Drachen Armet to let it work at 50% health and Wyrm Armet to boost its potency, that's 2-4 +300HP cures for 7MP per dragoon, all at once.

Did I mention healing breath is hate free?

aginst fly or birds they do will better setup be ninja, drg x3, rdm brd. Be like a thf cannon. Drg really dont have the def to be taking hits aginst vt. Hardest part would be to find 4 drg

Hey, I said it may work for merits. When you get over your inferiority complex and think about pre-merit PTs, which is most anything 71-75 nowadays, you'll realize I was right.

Not an exp party, but I came across this vid while randomly browsing. It's not a bright quality so you can't see fantastically well, but enough to see they're all drg and enough to see the one tanking just fine. Thought some might find it interesting in this topic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeVCg7y5IKo

Inferiority complex? I'm just stating facts, you're the one being a bitch.

Sure.... I'm the one being a bitch when I already said it may work for merits, but not pre-inclusion to merit PTs and all your AF2. Couldn't possibly be you flipping out over someone else's opinion tossing out irrelivent facts that are already covered by the disqualifiers within my post.

My bad, you must be right. I was way out of line. I mean, I was way out of line when you agreed with me by saying it was doable when wearing your relic armor. I was deffinately being a little bitch by expressing my doubts that there would not be enough MP to last for significant XP chains. I certainly should have held back with those comments.

Had I known I would have been called out on being a little bitch when presented with your "facts" that have little to do with the merits of a PT consisting of 4 DRGs and a RDM and BRD, I surely would have reconsidered. I mean, how dare I so much as speak from my personal experience with DRGs! A PT of decked out DRG are surely going to hold hate and be proficent at getting XP with no risk to the RDM and BRD, disreguarding the DRG's key job abilities to drop their hate in large chunks. I can't believe I overlooked the glaring fact that a DRG can cure 300+ HP for 6mp, so long as they have the proper peices of AF2 and are sitting under 50% health.

How fucking dare I think that a job that wears Jerkins all the way up to their AF might not have the defensive capabilities while subbing a mage job, to survive hits with less VIT, HP, and AGL than they would normally have, ignoring yet again that those numbers are pathetic even with the correct subjob. And I must have been damn foolih to suggest the use of /NIN although it is a commonly used merit sub.

But back to the point at hand. I truely was being a little bitch for so much as looking at the reality of relying on a hardly controlable, floating, glass doll to do my main healing, and not thinking that was a good idea. And once again for agreeing that it is doable for merits, but not pre AF2/Abjuration Gear/God Gear, I must appologize.

I mean, I know a THF/WHM/RDM/BLM can do 6k+ an hour on merits, so I would assume any retarded job combo could at least do that, especially giving them the handicap/penalty of another 2 people. That was never something I debated, as it is strictly a matter of skill at that point.

I just don't know how to express my shortcommings any further, so I suppose I'll just wish you luck with your broken Mr. Argus you say you still use, and hope you can forgive me.

Sarcasm aside, you're still wrong since it has been done.

Pre-70?
On IT?
How was the XP?
Was it the PT layout exactly as described in the OP?

5 DRG/mages and 1 BRD. Pre-70. Pre-ToaU areas, and we were getting 6K an hour. So we didn't have a RDM, but still basically the exact situation.

Except more damage and apparently more healing. And I assume we are talking above level 30, since most anything can tank up through the jungle, and letting your HP fall below 33% health isn't smart, even with healing breath 2 comming at level 20. I'd imagine this must be past level 40, but even then it's all sorts of dangerous.

Dangerous if you have no idea what you are doing. I researched it and found a few different camps that would work. And we did it late 50's, so we didn't even have our AF Helms, which would have made it even easier. We did the Bats in KRT. Just like other parties can be, it is very situational and isn't possible at every level, but it can be done at many different intervals as long as you have a group that knows what they are doing.

Meh, I suppose. I don't think I could ever recommend it though. Not to anyone that would have to ask. Again though, your PT wasn't the layout described in the OP. More damage and more healing may get things dead fast enough to be viable.

Close enoughthough . And I probably wouldn't recommend it either lol, since I also am 75 WAR and 75 BRD and grew to accustomed to cannons that have a greater XP potential.

But that doesn't mean it isn't possible.

i love drgs...awsome job yet so not deemed worthy in the eyes of others...sad

Not enough people do give it the credit it deserves, but I think some of that is still hold-over from back when like 50% of the DRG out there were Gilsellers. You only get burned so much before you stop sticking your hand back on the stove.

Of course, I have seen plenty of really amazing DRG at lots of levels. I've seen Phraust level it to 50 (lol@ his shame), Bloodscream with his at 75 doing lots of CoP stuff with us, and I've seen Lanien on rare occasion in-game and on video. The job's potential is amazing, but it's dipshits stand out more than others because the job already held such a negative conotation for so long that people's nature will shun it more for a few what would otherwise be seen as normal.

I think a DRG in full Heca would absolutely rape with it's WS, especially with a 50% STR modifier on Wheeling Thrust. It just takes forever for DRG to finally get to the point where their gear kicks as much, or more, ass than any of it's DD counterparts. Because of this, everyone goes through about 50 levels of [/sigh]ing with DRG in PTs. I personally think it is a little unfair just how jacked they get on all their gear through the game. Even most of their Relic is complete crap (not that most relic in general isn't). It's a great job that was total crap, then got some decent buffs, but still would benefit most from just adding their name to some decent sets of gear throughout the levels.

It has always puzzled me that a job whose AF looks like Plate Mail would be restricted to leather and a couple harnesses. That's strait-up bullshit to me.

It really does take a bit of extra effort to put DRG into the category of other DD jobs. The reason why DRG is passed up so much is that many DRG don't know what the hell they are doing. They don't know how to time jumps, they don't find the correct balance of gear between accuracy, attack and strength, and most of them are little whiners.

I have defended DRG for a long time, and back when I was still playing, I would challenge other jobs who called me out on not being a real DD. 90% of the time my numbers combined with my wyvern, would easily match or outdo my competitors. A correctly balanced armor set allows for DRG to hit hard and fast, as well as put up higher than decent WS numbers.

As far as the gear question, some higher defense would be nice, but I never really had any problems, even when soloing. We weren't really made to tank, but can do a decent job with the right gear setups. Although any job can probably do it, I have tanked the Prime avatars as DRG, countless AFs, and I even tanked one of the mithra in the CoP fights. It probably doesn't sound like much, but those felt like accomplishments for me since people said DRG was like a piece of paper in terms of defense.

The one real problem that I have always had for DRG is the lack of a real final WS for polearm. While other DD jobs are out getting their final WSs that do a lot of damage, DRG gets Impulse Drive, which is no where near as good as Wheeling Thrust is. If Impulse Drive did a bit more damage, DRG would have a better shot. And I am not dissing polearm at all, because Double Thrust really is one of the best WS up until the late 40s and maybe early 50s. The only real WS that outdoes it is Sturmwind. I remember hitting for 300 with Double Thrust back in Qufim and the jungles and being amazed, only to find out that later at 71, I would still hit for 300 with Impulse Drive lol

All in all, DRG is a great job that gets overlooked by many. We put up great numbers, can tank a bit, but not great, and can control our hate very easily, making them very good trick partners, which has probably been all but eliminated in the time of the Cannon.
