Hmm ... install takes 15 minutes, update takes 3H ..

Do yourself a favour and start the update before you go to work, before you go to bed, or some other stuff that takes a long time so that you won't spend your evening watching the update screen.

No you can update before you reactivate your IDs

The content ID thing will be brought by the system when you are about to go into FFXI.

Yes, you have to reactivate your content ID before you can update. I think the registration server is still down though. It was still down last night at about 10cst.
