So, after this past week, and the third time getting Bronchitus in about 4 months, I decided it would probably be in my lungs best interest to quit smoking.

i've tried before, which amounted to about 3 months of bitchiness and then I gave in and started smoking again. Wanting some opinions from people who smoked and have quit, and what worked for you.

Hey congratulations on at least trying :). Are you trying to quit cold turkey?

What me and Tongan used to do, is that I would give him a day a week, say Saturday, that he wouldn't smoke a cig, then I gradually added more days until he stopped altogether.

Yeah, I'm going to try and quit cold turkey. I tried that gross nicotine gum once.. but it made me sick. D:

Nicotine gum is definitly not the way to go, neither is cold turkey really, but i'd do cold turkey before i ever put another piece of that gum in my mouth. I did end up quitting cold turkey, though.

It took me a pretty big slap in the face to stop smoking (literally and psycologically). I had almost missed my year long anniversary dinner with my girlfriend, just to buy a pack of cigs. While i thought about what i was doing while waiting in line i just stopped, and went to my dinner.

Sometimes it just takes a realization of how its affecting you, other than your health to make you stop (everyone knows that smoking will kill you, but most do it anyways).

Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that gum is fucking disgusting. >.> My dad was in the proccess of quitting a few years ago, and said it taste *wretch* Good ... yuck.

And I'm quitting for complete health reasons. I have a shitty immune system as is. And I guess aiding my illness is really hindering me. I have a great job, and I'm missing at least a week a month because I'm so sick I can barely move.

I can't afford nor do I want to lose this job. And I want to be able to just have a healthier life. :)

My co-worker went on Chantix, and she hasn't smoked in about 6 months. She smoked for about 15 years prior to doing that. I hear wonderful things.

I also have decided to try to quit smoking, I'm doing alright I guess. Kind of. The way I have been trying to go about it is that I refuse to buy cigarettes - I bum them off of friends here and there instead - this takes me down to about one or two a day. I did cave the other day and bought a pack from my mom out of a carton she just purchased, but I'm still at about 2-3 a day instead of the 5-10 that I had been doing.

My hardest times to not light up are on the way to work and on the way home from work, as well as when I drink. I've kind of tried to combat that by not drinking as much, (imagine that) but I have very low self control once I start drinking and the cravings sometimes are ridiculously unbearable.. On the way to and from work I have been trying to find something to replace the habit I have of lighting up while driving - I'm going to start with bringing tea in the car with me and drinking that instead, and chewing or sucking on sour candy also helps me, cause i love sour candy. mmm mm.

Lastly, my boyfriend had a pack of swishee sweets cigarillos (or something like that) and he left them at my house - when I am alone and I have a craving I light that shit up and take about two puffs of it - its so disgusting that my craving goes away, i put it out, and bask in the glory of being reminded of why i wanted to quit so bad.

Rather than quitting cold turkey, gradually decrease the amount of cigs you smoke a day. That way the body can adjust to the decreased amount of nicotine gradually without having it go through severe withdrawal symptoms.

My father tried cold turkey and it never worked for him. His smoking always came back. If the gum isnt doing it for you, maybe you can get a nicotine patch.

Nicotine patch made me puke too. >.> the longest I've been able to quit was about 3 months. Then I caved because i have no will power. :/

I would try the gradual decreasing amount of cigs per day, but honestly I don't trust myself to actually do that. Again, having no will-power and the ability to be easily stressed, makes for a much harder time of be able to smoke but not allowing myself to.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do as of yet. But I'm really appreciating the input. My parents reccomended this pill, that "stops cravings".. but they did it once and are already smoking again. so I'm a bit doubtful on that.

One thing about quitting though, is that you can't use cigs as a crutch to get by stress. You will need will power as well as a strong resolve.

Where do you usually put the cigs? In your purse, some places in the house, in your car? And how many do you smoke on average per day?
Chewing regular gum seems to help since it gives your mouth a nice taste and you wouldn't want to spoil it by smoking. This will probably lead you to go through multiple packs of gum in a week but its way cheaper compared to cigs lol.

If you smoke like almost a pack in one day, try cutting it to 10. Stick with that for a few days. Then go for 8, and stick with that a few days.
In the meanwhile, let your body adjust itself.
When you are not going to smoke for a while, put it in a place where you know you're going to have to go and look for it. If you hate going to where it is, you'll feel less inclined to smoke lol.

To be honest you're going to find it nigh on impossible to quit without this.

Agreed.

I'm here for any kind of support I can reasonably offer. :P

But most of this will be riding on you and that will-power you're going to need to summon to kick this.

Oh, STFU, you have willpower, you're just fuckin' lazy! <3
I think quitting would do a world of good for you. Go for it, and you got Moinky there to support you. :) Good luck, babe.

Ive been trying to quit for two months now. I found that Prime Times do good for that craving. You get the oral fixation while getting no nicotine. Over time youll notice yourself not needing as much, especially because they take long to smoke, and if you get rum flavored you wont be able to stand the smell so youll just stop smoking them.

Of course, i've gone that route, almost quit, then had a tragedy in my life which as smokers know will cause you to go back. Will power is a big role, if your tired of being sick, use that reason to quit.

If your cravings come during the drive to and from work, try talking on your cell the whole way to keep your mind off smoking. Drive with the AC on, dont let your windows down or else youll have yet another reason to smoke.

I haven't done research to substantiate the claim, but I believe it's a ticketable offense to drive and have your cellphone up and talking here in Florida.

Not yet. they are working towards that.

Don't start if you can't quit.

A current close friend of mine was a habitual chain smoker and he tried the hypnosis thing which was free provided by his company. The process took about an hour and he stopped smoking for about 8 months or so then got back into it lol. The life of being a salesman is stressful. The cool thing though is that hypnotist offered a life-time guarantee so whenever my friend had a craving he went in and got it taken care of. Maybe look up a hypnotist in your area but I know it's about $200.00 dollars initally. Good luck!
