Quitting smoking

I've read that it's harder to quit than heroin. That scared me, and as a result I'll probably never quit either of the two.

Withdrawals are only temporary. Take up a hobby that requires that you can't smoke, like swimming or tennis. :)

or extreme fapping, that works too

They guys making sure he can breathe better for the rest of his life and you think he should be worried about getting fat? How about worrying about not smoking? Lets try reality for a moment here.

This is reality. When a person quits smoking, they need to watch their weight more carefully. quitting is all about health, and in his case it's best to reinforce this information.

It's all in the mind, so try and take more control of your mind. Get really angry about smoking. You know that the cons out weigh the pros and just convince yourself that your pissed off with yourself for smoking.

If you turn to it for stress, you had stress before you started smoking and you obviously delt with it then, you can deal with it agian with out the smokes.

i used to smoke like a 20 pack a day and well i decided to just give it up.. it was easy... i stoped buying pack and hanging out with those friends that smoke.. but after 10 long months im starting to "casualy" like 1-2 cigs a weekend when i hang out and go out drinking... kinda sucks because once i smoke em i kinda repent from what i did :\

If you want to talk reality, being overweight causes as many or more health problems then smoking.

For those of you having trouble quitting, I recoomend this to all my friends and it has never failed:

my parents have tried Chantix 3 times and it's failed all three times. I do, however, think this is the best option out there for trying to quit.

Good Luck, Timmy. I should probably try jumping back on this bandwagon T.T;

I've been smoking for almost 3 years now, but I can quit anytime I want. The way I've been doing it is I'll smoke constantly(about a pack of camel wides a day) for a week or two, and then take a week or two off and smoke 0 cigarettes during that time. Then I'll smoke again for another week or two, take another week or two off...etc. This way I've been able to "have my ciagrettes and smoke them too". I like smoking, but I don't like the idea of getting addicted to it, so I never have. During my smoking weeks I'll crave a cigarette, I'll want one if I haven't smoked one in over an hour, but I've never once felt like I needed one.

My suggestion to you Tim is to try and slowly ween yourself off. How much do you smoke right now? If it's once an hour, try cutting it back to once every hour and a half for a few days, then cut back to two hours for a few days etc, until you're down to 1 a day, and then, who gives a shit? One smoke a day never hurt anyone.

No offense. But "One smoke a day never hurt anyone."?? You do realize that people die from issues caused by even second hand smoke. One smoke a day certainly has hurt many, many, 'someones'.

I don't believe that. If someone died from second hand smoke either they were getting an unbelievably phenomenal amount of it in a closed space for years and years or they were very weak people who likely had other health issues. Those are really the only two scenario's I can see in which anyone would have any issues with second hand, anything else is anti-big-tobacco propaganda bullshit, or at least that's what I'm believing until it happens to someone I know.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

My dad's smoked around me all my life and I was severely asthmatic and I don't even believe that bullshit of people dying due to second hand smoke.

Second hand smoke still has a lot of the same stuff as regular smoking, minus all the filter crap pretty much. Second hand smoke complications are very real. Its pretty much why you can't smoke indoors almost anywhere in the US.

Both of your two responses were the good ole' "I know someone that didn't fit it, so you're wrong" that Trippy pointed out.

Just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean it doesn't happen (hint: it happened to someone very close to me).

Edit: At least i think its a nation wide ban.

I actually considered this at first. At most, I was only smoking about a pack every two days, so half a pack a day, or one every 1.5 hours I'd say.Obviously that fluctuated pending the situation, but you get the point. I felt like it was better for me to just straight up quit because I'd be way too tempted with cigarettes anywhere near me to not smoke.

As far as second-hand and smoking bans are concerned, I'm not gonna get into that. I grew up in a smoke-filled house my whole life, so it doesn't bother me (not saying that the health risks aren't there...). Also, in Pittsburgh at least, I know smoking bans are about 50/50 at this point. Its still legal in most local bars/taverns. I wish it wasn't, because that would make quitting sooo much easier lol. Sitting at a smoke filled bar tonight was driving me crrrrrazy.

I'm not usually one to get into debates. But, thought this was some interesting facts.

My parents also smoked around myself and my brother from birth. No one in our family has a history of Asthma, yet my brother and I both have it. I personally don't think thats just coincidence. I don't blame my parents for anything, honestly back then they really didn't know how bad it was. I'm not preaching that everyone should just quit smoking. It's completely your choice, and yours alone. But, you can't ignore that second hand smoke does have it's effect.

The best excuse ever.

Why don't you quit now?

Why don't you quit FFXI? Because I don't want to quit, that's why. I enjoy it, it feels good. The same reason some people go to amusement parks all summer long. They aren't addicted, but they're not gonna quit doing it unless they have an extremely good reason. I don't have a good enough reason to quit.
