Cross-post from Pimps forum. I'm sure many of you are already well into the R600 knowledge, but for those who aren't...

Welcome to the R600, ATI's next mammoth. Nvidia will supposedly have their faster revision of the G80 core out before the R600 lands, but there has been precious little evidence to show that Nvidia will stand a chance against this near-nuclear GPU.

Summary: up to 4gb onboard 2.5ghz GDDR4 memory (capable of up to 160gb/sec bandwidth, current GPUs cap at ~85gb/sec). 720 million transistors - roughly 3x the amount in an Intel quad-core CPU. GPU clock supposedly capable of up to 2ghz, compared to modern GPUs which have yet to break 900mhz out of the factory. First wave due in April, higher-end parts due in late May. Pics below.
Architectural highlights
Miscellaneous board specifications
Coolers
Anonymously submitted photos of what is presumed to be the X2900XTX:
Dual power inputs:
Dual-slot:
My heart is still fluttering. This is f-cking ridiculous. It's like the 9700 all over again.
Any Nvidia fanboys got details on their competitive release, if they have one?

Architectural highlights
- Core working frequency ranging at 700 MHz to 800 MHz (revision A12 silicon), to over 2 GHz (revision A15 silicon which is in development).
- The R600 will feature support for the GDDR3 and GDDR4 memory interface.
Bandwidth may range from 115.2 GB/s (using 1.0 ns GDDR3 at 2000 MHz) to 140.8 GB/s (0.9 ns GDDR4) up to a rumoured 153.6 GB/s (using 2.4 GHz GDDR4) or 160.0 GB/s (using 2.5 GHz GDDR4). - 1 GB and rumored up to 4 GB on board GDDR3 or GDDR4 RAM (see the variants section) working frequencies higher than effective memory clock speeds of X1950 XTX of 2.0 GHz to a rumoured 2.4 GHz.
- Support of Quad-GPU/4-card setup as written in R600 driver and details were leaked to web.
Miscellaneous board specifications
- 12-layer PCB design, the thickest of all current graphics cards.
- R600 is the heaviest graphic card ever.
- R600 will support video-in and video-out functions.
Coolers
- High-end models of R600 will feature a dual-slot air cooler (designed to dissipate 250 Watts power) and a large heatsink with 4 heatpipes, operating at 240-270 Watts.
- The high-end R600 will use dual-slot air cooler as stock cooler, and is reported that an air-water hybrid cooler which incorporates a pump on the cooler is in development stage.
- It is reported that there will be single-slot air coolers for the rest of the R600 series, for the middle-end and low-end models.
- The water cooler, the VapoChill system from Asetek, will feature Vapour Chamber Technology, it's likely the VapoChill Micro cooler will feature in R600 water cooled cards.
