Okay, so I've had my Noct +1 Gloves on since lvl 30 (I'm currently 54) and you know that thing where you look through all the gear and see what you can wear in the future?? Yeah, I was doin' that, and I noticed that I can wear Devotee's Mitts. Stats are: Def: 5 MP: 8 INT: -4 MND: 5. Hmmm. 5 MND. I should mention at this point I use cross bow, and none other than Holy Bolts and I've heard that MND enhances the 'additional effect' of the Holy Bolts.
I was wondering if getting these would be a good idea. My grand scheme would be 5 MND from these puppies, 5 MND from the RNG AF leggings, and 2 MND from R.K Belt +1, granting me +12 MND in all. So the question is, would that be a worthwhile endeavour, or should I just stick with the Noct +1??

So yeah, any RNGs out there than can help me out with this??

I'll probably still test it out for myself and see what the result is, but if anyone has the magic formula they'd like to share with me, that'd be great.
<ReallySmartRanger>: Yes, you should notice a 3-6% increase in added effect damage because when you multiply the square root of pi by the 5 of the mitts, (of course remembering hypotenuses theorum cuz NOT doing so would be....well, stupid!)....

Thanks a lot!

Yes it is readily noticeable. I posted a similar question on Alla while back and got great responses. Its definitely going to be your best bet gloves wise. I mean we are kinda screwed in that category anyways, along with legs in that there is little in the ways of good armor until late game, if then. For Holy bolts, +10 mind can bump you up about 10 damage per shot at the min is what I heard. It will also result in your shots getting resisted less (the +2-5 damage you will see occasionally). I would say that as long as you use the current +1 ring and Hawkers over the Archers (makes up for your lost Rng acc and then some), then you will have no problems. At 59, missing is rarely a problem, and I will miss 1-2 Sidewinder/Slug Shots an hour when I shoot from 100-200 tp.

Just a side not, Crossbow really loses out on its effectiveness from 50-60. I would recommend you pick up a War Bow +1. In reality, it would be best to have all 3 weapons and pick to suit, but you will have a significantly higher output with Gun or Bow at that point. Heavy Bow +1 really handles its own at 60 is what I hear though. Anyways, take care ^^.

THANK YOU!

Thank you for that info Faedryth! Most helpful!

But yeah. I've been noticing the damage is kinda blah. Oh well. But yeah. I have a Musketeer's Gun, but the thing is, Bullets are a LOT of kablingy! The damage sure is NICE! (when I used in it Garlaige Citadel at lvl 50, I did 111 damage on a beetle (136 critical) and ~130ish on bats. I also pumped out a 926 Barrage on a beetle that I payed for down to 8 HP (Cure) V (Can I have it?) Teng?? -_^) I just hate how MUCH they are. >.< 15k a stack of bullets. I shot through 3 stacks in that party (45k) and I ate Yelloe Curry (7k). Not that I'm bitching, that was the most fun I've ever had throwing gil to the wind. But I don't think I'm rich enough to sustain that sort of out put of 52k gil every 7k exp. So yeah....I've been looking into XBow as an alternative, as I get that Gold Musketeer's Bolt O' Sezzyness. hehe. 60 Damage, +20 Ranged Attack, +10 Ranged Accuracy. All I have to do is....NOT shoot it away. lol.

I was in a party last night in which there were 2 rangers, myself, and another who used Bow primarily. On average, he hit for 80+7 (damage/additional effect....lighting arrows) and I was doin' around 50+17. So he as belting out a solid 20 damage more than me on average. I'm just wondering if the attack speeds of the XBow vs. Bow would help to justify it. The XBow is almost twice as fast.

As for the HQ rings....nothing but. Nothing but. I have HQ gear provided it's not like 500k more for a +1 jump. Genin earing for instance, while sexy as it is, I just can't justify that kind of money. >.< coudose to those RNG's and THF's who can however!

try to start crafting alchemy so that you don't have to pay the current price of silver bullets... but they are the shit, aren't they?! wwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

Honestly, I dont like the delay of gun when I play. Feel like it takes me all day to react to a bad situation. Id say go with bow for a while. I just hit 60 today so I will compare Xbow to Bow when I get exp'ing again. I was in a 3 Rng party today, Xbow, Warbow, and Eurytos Bow. I was a bit disappointed with the dmg from Eurytos. Maybe 10 more a shot. But the person wasnt using demons, so that would probably bump it up another 5-10. Warbow is great for 50-60. It is great DoT and DpS (damage per shot as well). The Sidewinders and Barrages with it are not as powerful, but I think they do well enough. Xbow on the other hand, is more of a party setup weapon. If you have a lot of melee, its great. In a multi-Ranger party, one person HAS to go Xbow. But I have noticed it has by far the best TP gain. It shoots so fast that it blows other weapons away (barrage excluded). Any weapon works, and dont let your much lower damage from Xbow depress you. You are improving others damage and also shoot about 3 for every 2 gun or bow users.

i can't comment on devotee's mitts as i've never used them, however I will say with absolute certainty that MND does indeed affect holy bolt damage. i can't say whether it lowers the resist rate, or increases maximum damage or both, but you will gain a damage increase once you start pumping your MND stat

I macroed some MND gear while farming a few months ago in Zitah, i had about +26 MND give or take (af2 hat, af1 pants, suzaku boots, rk+2 belt)

before I equipped the gear, my holy bolt damage was in the 45-55 range, with the MND, it went as high as +85

of course this is on too weak mobs, but it shows that MND does increase the damage, and on mobs where accuracy isn't a concern i wouldn't see why switching from noct+1 to MND gloves would be harmful
