Anyone else buy this? I thought I would give it a try, based on really enjoying Tools of Destruction.
Finished it this afternoon. I'd say, the concept and value is interesting.
It's a short game, probably a third of the length of Tools of Destruction - and it's got less replayability, because there's no point in going through another playthrough - and the weapon upgrade system has been completely neutered.
As far as the gameplay and graphics are concerned, it's quite good - it's got the same general quality as Tools of Destruction did.
Is it worth $15? Well if you thought that Tools of Destruction was worth $60, this is worth probably around $15... there's less to do, but on the other hand, you can play through this in one sitting, and it's satisfying to finish. While there's no reward - up-gradewise for replaying through it, the short length and general gameplay extends itself to multiple playthroughs anyway - I'm sure I'll beat it a few more times before the next full Ratchet and Clank games comes out next year.
So I'd say if you're a fan of the series in general, go ahead and pick this up... but with the expectation that it's not the same experience as a full $60 game.
If you're interested in the series but haven't played it before... well Tools of Destruction hasn't really dropped in price, so this might be a decent game to test your interest in the series out without a full $60 commitment.
It's nice though to get a retail quality game off the PSN store - and not just an expansion, even if it kinda feels like one.
I'd love it if we could download short $15 versions of Uncharted, Metal Gear Solid 4 or a short new Halo game off XBLA. Just use the old engine and assets, make some new levels relatively cheap and upload em.
