You just need to understand that when you start spouting out-of-context or off-topic ignorance, im going to call you out on it.

Incorrect info's on that last post,

RDM's Lv70+ WS Savage Blade can be obtained at Lv73 ~ you need 240 points to activate skill & Lv71 to start the quest.

As for melee all the way to get those wonderful WS's, there are thing's called skill up parties. You don't NEED to melee all the way to 75 nor are you going to. NO YOU WILL NOT, period. For those that are thinking they can melee all the way to 75, STOP NOW, don't even try it you will regret it.

Why you not going to melee all the way to 75?

Simple, your going to miss those mob's most of the time ~ you see those mob's in Ro'meave? IT++ starting at Lv71. Your going to hit a damn at that lvl and you STILL going to miss fair chance even at 75 [ your sword skill at 200? forget it, drop sword & go back to the job of healing & enfeebling..etc ].

Even with a bard playing sword & blade madrigal, your going to miss alot of the time.

Ask any high level redmage if they meleed so much, they didn't. They stuck to the job of healing, enfeebling, haste etc. THose that obtained final WS did it via SKILL UP parties.

That's what a skill up party is for, it's to catch up on your WS point's that you COULDN'T obtain during a xp session, they were all patient till they blew past 70 or close than did skill up's.

How you do think the high level whm's obtained Hexa Strike or Black Halo?.

Skill up parties are a must, Bard's that want Evisceration or Ranger's that want Detanator, RDM want Savage Blade ~ your going to need to spend the time to skill up.

If you want to melee all the way ~ your choice but you not going to hit that mob often enough to make a difference.

Miisha Hello.

I'm not going to be rude or anything.

I just wanted to make a few things clear.

- I never metioned RDM Melee was high end damage. As for a RDM meleeing. I am a level 65 RDM as we speak, and I do Melee, i do not put the melee before my main tasks, and i do not put it before any additional activities that i perform in a party. But instead of standing to the side, when i haven't anything to do for the time being. I let my RDM Melee. It does not stop me from casting when commanded to do so. Of coarse this is only possible when having enough MP to last the 10 minutes at the least.

- About damage. Currently i fight in Tiger Jerkan armor. this is a Melee based armor, as most of us know. I would change back into my AF when i convert, for the extra MP until i needn't the extra space. Without the Tiger Jerkan, i can do an average or 24 damage before additional effect. with the +15 I'm doing roughly 15 less damage than a PLD average attack. Again i'm level 65 and my sword is currently capped at 212. And yes i do miss more than all the other Melee.

- Weapon skill up parties are an excellent way to up your weapons skills, i would not disagree.

I have made it this far playing the way i do. Due adopting cirtian points made to me in this post. I Change my gear and eat my pricy Cheifkabobs. I do not Melee to reak massive damage. I melee to add what more i can for the party as i Enfeeble and debuf and refresh and haste and occationally MB (Even double MB).

So Dia II, Poision II, and Cold steel, is all neutral enfeebling for me.

And yes i'm also warry of the WHM MP cause i also kick in if the WHM somehow manages to blow away all their MP. I am the type to convert induring battle.

There is nothing to regret, i have my sword skill, and i still do what i must to limit downtime.

dont worry poster after today miisha will be melee'ing a lot. congratulations on getting Joyeuse miisha!!

Battle took about 40m... made lord of onzozo look like a clipper. there were 4 ppl who was allowed to lot and miisha won with a 980

Yeah he's a mean one, strange name too. We killed it once and the LS leader paid the full alliance 90k each for it. The blade really is a nice toy. If i ever have a chance to lot on it like so, and loose the lot, i can only imagine i would have to pay 17 or so people upon the drop.

not much of an LS if the leader has to pay ppl to pass :/ we're going to get 2 more for ionstorm and ryme tomorrow.. although maybe i should make them pay me to pass

He never had to pay anyone to pass. He wanted to reward everyone for helping him get the blade. Not everyone that came that day were in the LS either. So it's only nice. Other than that i'm not about to compare Bousoutenshi to Fireblade. I perferr not to create a stench between two stable Linkshells. I feel anyone from either side that does so would end up looking like an ass.

we're in the same shell^^.. I think that day u guys faught it gains was tanking it... Kurei asked me to come, but i was busy lvling... anyway good to hear he paid u guys for the help.. god knows he owes me enough as is

about 80% off topic but someone, SOMEONE said that 'rdm are the only job that can MB their ws'

O...M...G...

Dark Knight can most CERTAINLY do so, in fact they do it often, whereas a rdm, never participating in the WS portion of the chain, does not.

I have b*tch slapped plenty of melee rdm's in my time who thought their 25 dmg fast blade was cute when it wrecked my distortion chain (screwing the pt out of 400 or so dmg points with their meelee mad skillz)
BUT i nearly always (ever at 69!) burst my own weapon chains AND I GO LAST. (swift blade)----(cross reaper)= (darkness) +250MB(drain)

RDM DO NOT TAKE PART IN WEAPONSKILLCHAINS. solo only, IF (this is a big if) they have tp. and if your a rdm who interrupts the REAL skillchain with your worthless little weaponskill so help me... *pounce**claws**death*
and whoever said spirits within is part of weaponskillchain... jesus man what lvl are you? spirits is based on your hp vs max hp and CANNOT chain. in fact, plz use this cuz it doesnt interrupt a regular chain no matter when you throw it! JOY!

your a rdm you got a sword you wanna poke things go for it. If your doing your job by all means. But DONT screw your pt over. they will notice. enspells add a LOT of dmg to an EM or lower mob. they are fan-dam-tastic for soloing and farming. to an it, (especially if its the wrong enspell) they can do 0-15 (yet to see add dmg + more than 15 ever) heh i see a lot of 'hit for 0 add dmg 10' type crap. Giving the gobbie more tp to bomb you = stupidity. giving the crawler/crab more tp to use defense boots = stupidity. Dispel costs a lot of mana and has a cooldown, you are MAKING YOURSELF CAST IT MORE. or in other words making your own life more difficult. you wanna do it go ahead. i have never told a rdm to stop meleeing in game and i'm just venting about the realllly stupid ones right now. (i am fairly sure few of them even read boards) but the rdm whose tank died cuz they were mid-stoneskin instead of mid-cure is STUPID. is rdm meelee dmg good? no! 2 arrows from a rng, 2 swings of a scythe from a drk, = their entire dmg per battle. (thats approx 200-300dmg) is it a horrible evil for a rdm to swing their sword while they are casting? not really.

If the guy carries 2 sets of equip and swaps for his melee, well i respect that. Thats actually intelligent *gasp* kudos to you guy /salute. But i have never once encountered such a thing.

heres a thought. WHM at 67 can get hexa strike.. and make light chains (ooo shiny) rdm cant get a lvl 3 skillchain WS till mid 70's. i wonder what this says about their meele skills? i think whm has a b in club ?(correct me if i am wrong) why dont all out whm's get out there and melee. hexa beats every ws a rdm has till savage. Just cuz you CAN doesnt mean you should.

PS savage blade does like 150 dmg to an EP mob, seen it last week. Sure looks cool though.

PPS grats on the Joyeause :D

Well Mistaya, To me it sounds as tho you've had many bad encounters with RDM's that screw up WS. But this being a flameboard and me being the only Melee RDM sticking up for himself, don't think the way those other RDM play have any appeal to me.

As for Savage blade doing 150 DMG. I would only imagine it being a dissapointment for me, of all the TP attacks, if it is this weak. I can currently do 360 DMG with Spirits Within, at maximum percentage.

And yes a RDM that collects TP should release it on their own time. But there are also instances where i have filled in spots for Skill Chains upon request. That was only when i had 300 TP to offer the party.

Scary that other jobs understand RDM way better than a lot of us do...

Just as an aside, the formula for mob TP seems to be "Your TP Gained" +3 for both you hitting the mob and for the mob hitting you. That means that every 11 hits with a standard sword (12 hits with a rapier) the mob gets a special. This is easy to test. Put up Blink, Phalanx, and Stoneskin so the mob deals no damage to you, and count how many hits it takes (soloing) before a mob uses a special on you. Standard sword (6.5 TP gained by you) it always uses a special in 11-13 hits.

Giving a goblin even one more bomb per fight wastes the WHMs mana. Giving a pugil one more screwdriver, or a spider one more Sickle slash, wastes WHMs mana. If your chains aren't going to 5 because the WHM is out of mana (and this is one of the main causes), then maybe the RDM melleeing is one of the causes.

Things to remember when melleeing:
- RDMs can only Skill Chain if they're casting with a sword on. In this case their mob isn't properly enfeebled so the damage they're doing is offset by extra damage the party is taking (higher mob offense) and lower damage the mob is taking (higher mob defence). No skill chain...much less damage.
- Mob TP
- (AOE's and being able to hit autoattack really aren't points worth worrying about)

Advantages to melleeing
- More damage

RDM have to consider the amount of damage they're doing melleeing and then decide whether the amount this speeds up the fight is worth the extra resources required to fix the extra specials or the extra time taken for the kill because the mob isn't properly enfeebled. In most cases it isn't (may well change with a Joyeuse / Enhancing Sword and top line melleeing gear, but most melleeing RDMs don't have this).

If you're not doing significant mellee damage (say 15% of the mobs HP or 800-1000 points at L65) then don't mellee.

LOL
I only got to be asked to be main healer once throughout qufim and kazham, and i still did a pretty good damn job of it too, lol, even though that means No enfeebling(except the BLM's) was being done, because i ran out of MP every fight, lol, but i still kept everyone alive...
