Ok, Here's a serious question I'd like to generate some actual discussion with. I'm looking to set-up a +enmity gear set for my RDM. What are some of the equips I should look at?

I assume for rdm/nin it might be best to dual wield the Match(tab) +1's but I don't have a clue since I'm a career mage.

What are some other equips that I should look into?

yeah, you'd probably DW the chainsaw swords. Trance Belt, if you can get it cheap, would be nice for your low recast hate spells like Dispel. Eris earrings are pretty good, too. I don't think there's any obvious options for hands/legs/feet, so you probably want to max out your haste there.

The Baron's Chapeau (lvl 20) gives you Enmity+2 INT+2 and you will feel right at home with the Pimp Hat look. Storm Manoplas (lvl 50) gives you Enmity+3. Nothing to equip for Body or Legs.

ps - The Horror Head II gives you Enmity+50, but it's only on Lightsday...

Horror head II
Cerberus Mantle
Astral rope
Harmonia's Torque
Hades earring +1
Heroic Boots
Mermaid ring
Hateful collar

That's about all rdm can wear and you'll prolly look like a crazy gimp, there's also enmity merits but you'll have those on all the time. I can't begin to imagine why you would want to wear this junk though because +mp gear with you casting more hate inducing magic would be far more effective.

horror head II is on new moon + lightsday + daytime, lol. I think you'd be better off with af1/af2 99% of the time, anyway. eris earring +1 have more enmity than hades at the cost of a little bit of MP. Trance belt > astral rope. For back piece on most things you'd be better off using, idk, high breath?

Fast cast gear should probrably have a higher priority over enm slots and have a good amount of mp to help build more hate.

Ie, Loq. Earring, Af hat, Relic body, etc.

unless of course it's a very large amount of enmity but I can't think of anything that comes to mind that'd top that extra fast cast.

This is my initial setup, wich i use to cap CE, before i swap over to dmg reduction. There are a few changes i would like to make. I want ataractic solea, fulltime, since heroic boots arent much of a bonus. I want the storm manopolas to, and just use dusk for utsusemi. I swap in swift for utsusemi aswell. I wouldnt trade out warlocks chapeu for anything, cept idling in duelists, the fastcast is a godsend. Second ring i would like a defending ring, but for a taru a HP ring works well. I use prince's slop for legs cause they give the most HP and MP. Neck piece is harmonia's torque, belt is trance belt. After capping CE i swap out chainsaws for terras staff, backpiece for umbra cape, and if im tanking something that double or tripple attacks alot or cant be slowed/elegied i swap out mermans for jelly ring. Magic dmg is the least of a rdm's concern, being one/triple attack shotted is usually a bigger worry.

Whats the point? Are you tanking short/long fights? I don't use any +emn or merits and can get and hold hate with no prob, unless dd go retarded on dmg. With all the rdm threads around, you can see it doesn't take much to get it on spells alone.

Im typically tanking longer fights, like Khimaira, Cerberus, Tiamat, 7-10 member gods, ultima and such. And anyone with any knowledge of enmity knows a rdm doesnt HAVE to have enmity to build enough VE, but when tanking mobs that triple and double attacks alot, you arent going to want to spend all your time casting to keep hate, you will want a breather. But as i said, i swap out alot of my enmity for damage reduction after capping CE, leaving me in about +13 enmity, wich is more then enough. And as far as damagedealer goes, i usually tank to some of the top-tier DD's on the server, including several adaberk apocalypse drks.

Short fights. After 5 min meteor haha.

There are only a small amount of items which are extremely heavy in +enm and none of them are for RDM if I recall correctly. Most decent +enm equips range from +2 to +4 enm and the pieces which I recall with significant amounts are all PLD pieces primarily, Bahamuts Mask and Aeg-whatever (helm off Faf). RDM also don't get too many +enm pieces as well outside of the common all jobs armors (earring, rings, etc) or pieces suitable for melee class jobs (SE includes RDMs, ex: Warwolf, Cerb Mantle).

And yes, those three pieces are very very good for tanking although, if you had Dalmatica, I'd use it over relic body for auto refresh and magic defense, but switch relic in for Utsu casts.

Just curious, when it comes to damage reduction on RDM/NIN, would you stick with a Macuahuiltl +1 offhand or would you go with a shield instead? Also, do you think Acheron or Genbu would go further for overall damage reduction? I know Genbu has the static -10% but it's reduction from blocks is also considerably less, so thought I'd ask. Granted, RDM Shield skill is also rock-bottom, so dunno if it's be worth it vs the really strong mobs.

I'm not a RDM or anything, but I'd assume Genbu's would outdo it. Even though the damage blocked is less, I think the 10% reduction would clean some of that off, not to mention more frequent blocks in the first place. It's too bad neither will help as much on mobs that concentrate more on magic.

Genbu would be better, the key to rdm survival is keeping SS up and anything to add to its lifeline is more icing on the cake.

Relying on low skills like that would make sense to rely on other lowly skills...

like darts(lol) or archery(feasible since there's a bow with enm? but would get in the way of building up hate and keeping up shadows and debuffs).

I dont bother with stoneskin when tanking HNM's, wich is what i assume we are discussing here, cause for solo there would be no need for enmity gear. Stoneskin is, to me, somewhat of a timesink. I have actually considered using Genbu shield, but with a sub 100 skill i doubt it would procc much. And considering Genbu's is a size 1 shield, the few proccs you would get wouldnt absorb much damage anyways. And since rdm doesnt get shieldmastery you wouldnt have any help with interruption rate either.

In full dmg reduction mobs like Cerberus hits me for 150-200, wich isnt to bad. Im elvaan and have a fair deal of hp.

>>>no endgame experience

I assumed solo play and endgame play with rdm tanking was essentially the same thing, I'm guessing because of the whms curing and you keeping steady hate that there is no need to keep SS up correct?

How does rdm tank endgame mobs?

Solo play has no need for enmity equip. solo play is pretty different from tanking in an alliance. There has been so much discussion of rdm tank, better to do a search for it. But basically you blinktank and spam a select few high enmity enfeebles. Focus on equip with Damage reduction > Fast cast > Enmity > Haste > HP/MP/magic damage reduction pretty much.
