Ok, I was having issues with windows, so I did a complete system restore. Wiped everything from my hard drive, no big deal.

I go to reinstall FFXI and all goes well until mid way through the 3rd disc.

It hangs up on file Rom2/40.dat

Then I get an error message saying something like:

"Error ####, error reading C:/ProgramFiles/Playonline/FinalFantasyXI/Rom2/40.dat, please verify that the file exists and you can open it."

I can't get past this and until I do, no FFXI.

Anyone have any suggestions or anything?

I already restared my comp many times, my discs are in almost perfect condition and I cant think of anything else. When I go to open the .dat file it says the file is in use by another process which I dont understand as it is being installed.

Oh cmon, there has to be someone with some CPU know-how that can help me here.

call POL ... that all i can tell you

what error number is it giving you? and when you get that you can usually type the game and error code into a search engine and find a how to on how to fix your problem. if that doesnt help all i can say is to take it completely off again and try to reinstall it again.

Firsty would recomend buy a back up hardrive saves alot of time
and with that message i had one before "sound drive not found can not instal data file XXXXXX" i just hit to CA and it went

I had a problem similar to this but it was back in october so i dont remeber what i did. If you goto my comp and then explore the cd-drive your FFXI disc is in and goto the folder manual you maybe able to pull it out manually.
