Real Money Trade RMT goes "Legal" well for SOE any

I wouldn't say it's coming to FFXI "soon" or even at all. And besides, you seem to have misunderstood the announcement - a person would only take part in RMT if they want to.

In other words, no one will be waiting to by my stuff for real life cash unless I say that's how I want to sell.

But like I said, I really doubt we'll be seeing a FFXI analog for these new EQ2 exchange servers, whether or not SOE has a market share.

::We have conducted polls, and the vast majority of players either doesn’t care about it or would like to participate in it.::

This is a sad sad day for MMO's everywhere.

EQ....you truly are fools.

Well they did say that they would be doing a survay to see if people wanted it and that they would implement it on servers who had, what I guess is a majority rule vote. Then afterwards they would allow people who didnt want to be on the ability to leave and for others who would like to go to servers that have this the ability to do so. How funny would that be if it actually worked out that all the gill sellers and buyers were to go off onto one or 2 servers. All of our gil seller problems would be solved in one shot, sure i know if would never happen like that but one can dream.

EQ II...meh.... this doesn't apply to us ^^ atleast yet...and hopefully never

i kinda feel bad for EQ2......once that is implemented they'll have a crap load of ppl buying high lvl characters. Say goodbye to any chance at a decent exp pty. Oh well..... XDDD

Well this is what I posted on another website.

Well on one hand it is happening anyways and it will bring a smile to my face if that undercuts IGE. Hopefully people that are willing to pay real world money to have ingame currency and items will flock to those servers and leave the other servers to people that actually want to earn what they get through playing the game.

The realist in me though thinks that people wouldn't want to be on a server labeled as a "cheat" or "cheap" server and would want to play on the regular servers, still buy items/money/characters, but then act like they didn't so they can have some sort of noteriety.

If this was ever put in to effect on FFXI I can tell you right now I would quit the game without a second thought.

The news about Station Exchange is bound to be controversial. I'm not going to try to sell you on the idea or promote the service; most players in this genre already have an opinion on the subject, and there is little point in one side trying to win over the other.

What I do want to do, however, is make sure posters can respond to the facts of this service rather than base their reactions on emotion alone. So please keep the following things in mind before you praise or denounce Station Exchange:

* Station Exchange will be launched on new servers. Think of them as special rules servers, and if you decide you don't want to play under those rules then you simply don't need to play there.
* These servers allow player-to-player transactions only. SOE does not create virtual goods that we will be selling ourselves; we are only facilitating a secure transaction between players.
* The EverQuest II team and our customer service staff will continue to enforce our licensing agreement and rules of conduct. Station Exchange is not a means to break the rules in order to farm cash or items. We will keep on banning farmers who break the rules on all our servers, including those with Station Exchange enabled.
* Subscribers get free character transfers to a Station Exchange server if they choose to use it. Characters, items, and coin cannot be transferred from a Station Exchange server to a non-Station Exchange server.
* If demand is high enough to convert an existing server into a Station Exchange server, players would be given free moves to another server. No one will ever be forced to play on a Station Exchange server who doesn't want to.
* SOE is charging a nominal, nonrefundable listing fee, plus a percentage of the final sale.
* Prices will be determined by the market. SOE will not be enforcing any kind of pricing guidelines.
* SOE is establishing this service on its own, not in partnership with anyone else.
* Ultimately, this is about giving our player base options. This wouldn't have been considered if it wasn't something that was so commonplace in online gaming. What we're doing is giving the players who want to engage in this activity a place to do it.
* This service will be offered only to US players at this time. SOE will be looking to expand Station Exchange to the rest of the world in the future.

You can read some more specific details on the service at its official website. Please check out the FAQ section.

I realize this is a controversial subject, and there will be a lot of emotional reaction to it. I'm not going to argue with people who don't agree with this service, as disliking it is just as valid as wanting to take part in it. But please remember that this is entirely optional system. If you choose not to play on a Station Exchange server, you don't have to.

Why would the money buyers even like this? You would still have the campers, botters, inflated market, MPK'ers, (things that actually effect gameplay) ect. I remember in Lineage II you would have to go into an area to kill a specific creature to complete a quest and 10 IGE farmers would rush you. You weren't there to farm just to kill one specific mob, yet you couldn't, EVER. Originally I was thinking that SOE was going to sell directly to the players to undercut the money farming companies but apparently I guess they want the money farmers to be able to keep there accounts and pay there monthly subscription fees, instead of banning them.

Well the way they are doing it, only certain servers will have this "feature" enabled. Thus, if you want to continue playing the game the normal way you don't have to participate. Think of it this way (in ffxi terms), this is a good way to separate the "gil buyers" out from the normal servers.

I highly doubt that the the gilbuyers will go to the new servers. They'd stay in the old servers and continue to buy gils to look more "uber" than ever, saying things like "Hey, the gilbuyers have gone to the new servers. So I must be real!"

Hmm, I also find it hard to beleive this will likely take place on vanadiel servers. Or... atleast I hope it doesn't happen :?

O.o now im thinking WoW > EQ -_-

A few things I want to add...

In my opinion, buying and selling game currency or items (not characters, that's a different thing altogether) for real money isn't that bad. It's when a group of people come together and make it difficult for "legit" players to get money that things get problematic. Yes, we're all mad at gilsellers that camp certain NMs nonstop to monopolize the drops, but if those gilsellers vanished and instead a LS camped that same NM nonstop so they could use the money on their characters, we'd be just as mad at them. Really, any problem that people blame on gilsellers (aside from players with bought characters that don't know how to play) is just because they work as an organized team to do something, and that something interferes with normal players. The same could be said about normal players if a group of them got together to do the exact same thing - what they do with the money they make has no real bearing on the game.

The farming-typed gilsellers are lessening the inflation, they introduce more items into the market, thus increasing the value of money.

The fishbotters or the newly-seen crafters (like Ploo in front of Bastok Mine mog) are generating a HUGE a mount of money. How does this huge amount of money go into the money circulation?

Through RMT.

And there is also the factor or fairness.

Well really, aside from the fairness issue, there's nothing inherently wrong with gilselling.

Let me ask you something. Tell me why you hate gilsellers. Is it because they sell gil? Or is it because the methods they use to get that gil is harming you? Because if it's the latter, selling gil isn't really the reason why you hate them.

I'm guessing eq2 has made some sort of pact with the gil sellers to pull gil sellers out of the servers that wont have this option.

might not be such a bad idea if that is the case. This would force a lot of peoples hands because if you don't know how to make money, all the gil sellers will be gone, and you wont have anyone to run to.

if eq2 is just going to allow gil selling to continue on regular servers then there lies a problem, because there is no reason for gil buyers to leave if they can continue to buy gil and stay on the same server.

Sony would be one to do this. They have stung IGE for tens of thousands in illegal virtual goods, and they have the ire pit deep enough to screw their own game's balance if it means killing the gnats flying around their heads.

Square doesn't have the we-will-CRUSH-you mentality that Sony has perfected (god bless them and their console).

I don't hate the gilsellers much, they're just annoying when they use their dirty tactics like MPKing, inviting you to form alliance then booting you etc...but the same can be said for normal players.

I hate gilbuyers.
