i kinda feel bad for EQ2......once that is implemented they'll have a crap load of ppl buying high lvl characters. Say goodbye to any chance at a decent exp pty. Oh well..... XDDD

War on Gil

It seems to me what SOE is doing is equivelant to the US saying "Ok, those of you who want to sell drugs can move to this state and we will allow you to do it but you have to pay a tax, and please stop killing ppl, we are tired of spending 40% of our time on you. Thanks for your time and we hope you are dumb enough to start paying our tax instead of making a killing and not paying tax."

I find gil buying sorta ironic.

No matter if you buy their gil or not, they treat all other players like crap, what with the MPKing and attempted WarpII and the like... If you buy their gil, you're in essence giving them money to treat you like shiat.

I also think there is a good degree of witchhunting going on in the whole gilseller argument. While there obviously are some, where are the rewards? So I hopped over to IGE to see how much one could sell his gil for...

about $25 for 2 mill on the quetzalcoatl server...

Is that even worth it? being able to pay your SE bill for 2 months (assuming you have no more than 2 characters?)

And the time it takes to get 2 million... 4 pair of leaping boots? I have a friend who's killed leaping lizzy at least 6 times with no drop, THF subbed... And those six kills took him ages. It doesnt seem worth the massive amounts of time it takes to accumulate enough gil to be worth a damn...

Depends =P I could pay my ffxi bill with a synth or two, thanks for pointing that out 8)

Frankly as an online currency gil is not worth crap. You can get 2mil for 30$ US. Several months ago (pre-wow) it was much much more valuable. IGE no longer accepts gil from players, it only distributes what its farmers bring in. Why? Surplus. The people who tend to buy currency are the people who are already long gone from ffxi, or on their way out. It's kind of funny like that.

I think comparing gil-buying to drugs is a bit harsh. It takes the average person HOW long to farm for 2million? A hell of a lot more time then it takes to earn 30bucks US. There are exceptions but most people will admit that farming is not fun. And to craft you need money to make money.

As for if it is ethical I would say its against the spirit of the game. (I would also say monopolizing any given mob is againt the spirit of the game.) However when making a decent amount of gil is nearly impossible for the average player coupled with the high gear standards... I will not judge. I think the mentality of a gilbuyer is more along the lines of someone spending a couple extra dollars on their hobby than anything else.

As for me I'll keep farming crystals... always good money in that :) I don't support the trading of online currency for real money at all, but it seems like calling gil-buyer on someone is like calling them a witch and having the whole village set up a stake and light the bonfire.

Villagers: She's a witch. Burn her.

Officer: Do you have proof?

Villager: She turned me into a newt.

Officer: A newt?

Villager: I got better...

I completely agree with you on all counts, and I commend you for having the guts to come out and voice your opinion on this forum.

I'm guessing eq2 has made some sort of pact with the gil sellers to pull gil sellers out of the servers that wont have this option.

might not be such a bad idea if that is the case. This would force a lot of peoples hands because if you don't know how to make money, all the gil sellers will be gone, and you wont have anyone to run to.

if eq2 is just going to allow gil selling to continue on regular servers then there lies a problem, because there is no reason for gil buyers to leave if they can continue to buy gil and stay on the same server.

It's just starting with EQ for SOE games, they chose to do this for (at least the PR reason) prevention of account/item/money theft, all while they take a cut of the RMT transactions from the top.(That's the ulterior motive). Hope that shines some light on it for ya Meeze, SOE just mentions it as a "fee" for transactions, and unless they've changed it around it was originally intended to allow item/money transfer between all characters and servers through them instead of Ebay/IGE and the like.

I've said it a million times and i'll go for one more just for kicks:

If any of you honestly don't think SE has a hand in gil buying and selling you're insane. 90% of the community links they provide that link DIRECTLY to POL.com have IGE links or other sources for RMT. Now, they HAVE to approve these sites before they get added to the POL site. You think they honestly care, aside from not having to hear people gripe about it? So they feign interest and make like they're busy once or twice a year doing something about it while all the while most likely having a thumb in the pie under the guise of "market research" meanwhile taking a small cut most likely in exchange for not sueing the ass off of any company that allows for RMT to take place. My guess? it will be coming to most if not all MMOs in future as a premuim package for a higher fee or discounted rate as it will be provided by the company on an allowance type base. 'Course that makes market sense, couldn't be right. Anyone whose ever worked costumer service oughta know every company is out to smile and pat the customer on the head all the while cursing their neediness, this type of hand-holding and ass-grabbing is inevitable.

Course i could just be a paranoid conspiracy crazy nut, time will tell.

monte pyton and the holy grail good movie

as for the RMT there only one problem is see with this and that is why do people do RMt in the frist place....

A they cant get the item there self because some gilseller ls is camping it
B they want the best gear and dont want to wait
C they just to lazy

so all these things said if RMT was put into play on certain servers why
whould any person want to go to though server the gil seller nowing this why would they want to a server where they have to compete with other gil sellers. so for some reason i dont think this is going to solve the gilseller/gil buyer problem even if it was put on FFXI

old man: ye who pass must answer these question three.
old man: what is your is your name?

old man: what is your quest?

old man:what is the average speed of a swallow
king: african or european
old man: i dont know (get catpulted into the the abyss)

lol... was wondering why this post was up again.
