I'm allergic to most nuts, and I went to a resutrant, and my mom ordered a quesedilla, and in the ingrediant list it didn't mention anything bad at all. However it happened to have cashew paste in it, my mom told me to try it, and I took about three bites, before I had to stop for it being too spicy (random note: I've taken "shots" of tabasco with friends being dumb, spicy usually isn't a problem). A few seconds later I had alot of itchyness in my mouth, which is what normally happens when I eat something I'm allergic too. It's usually just uncomfortable, we waited it out until it was certain my throat wasn't clogging up too much, and it died down after about 20mins, so we left the resturant.

When explaining how it felt to my mom and why I didn't eat more, it turns out that it wasn't the least bit spicy, and the burning I felt was a reaction from the cashew stuffs. my stomach hurt a bit on the way home, I thought that it was just the allergy, but there couldn't be a problem since my airways isn't in danger.

I finally get home, log on, find out my linkshell popped jailer of love early, so rushed to help out, when it was around 15% I started coughing alot, and I attributed it to my cold getting worse, since I only had a light sweater that night. Nearing it's death (5%) I felt itchyness on my shoulders and back, and my coughing was getting worse, I decided to wait till it's death (that's a sign you're addicted to ffxi lol..) by the time it died I whas wheezing like I had astma again, short breath and hives all over my back and shoulders.

My dad brought me to hospital, by the time we got there I was completely covered in what looked like a rash and tons of hives. The doctos and nurses gave me like 5 different medicines (one made me really jittery, sounded like I was freezing to death when I talked) and after I started getting better, they said they'd keep me there the night incase problems resurfaced.

Anyways one of the nurses said that allergies usually get worse with every exposure, which I never knew. Before last night I never imagined it could get so bad. It was never life threatning, but the nurses said next time it could very well be. Really a shock since every once in a while I take in nuts by accident, like drinking a juice made out of it, seasame chicken without thinking too much about it, etc... It never got bad at all, always just uncomfortable because my mouth would itch, or make it hard to swallo, but never as bad as I described above.

I now have to carry something called epinephrine with me at all times incase I have another reaction this bad, it's a needle that's supposed to help out to prevent throat from clogging up. =/

They do get progressively more severe with each reaction. Every time you get exposed, immune cells make more defense, called antibodies, to the food you're allergic to. These antibodies stick onto the surfaces of mast cells, permanently, just waiting for more of that protein to come around. With each new exposure more and more mast cells have more and more antibody waiting for it. When the protein binds to the antibodies on the mast cells, it triggers the mast cells to release histamine, which is constricts your lungs and makes your blood vessels leak. It quickly snowballs into a total-body anaphylactic shock, which is what you are likely to go into next time you get significant nut protein exposure. Every mast cell in your body now has antibodies to nut protein on it, and your B immune cells will continue to pump out that antibody to put on new mast cells for decades.

Good call on the education and the epi pin by the healthcare team. Epi pin will basically reverse anaphylactic shock. Just jam it into your leg when you have trouble breathing I would imagine. It is rather annoying for men to carry around though.

Isn't that the so-called "artificial adrenaline" that the dude in Cranked is always fiending for?

Epinephrine is actually synthetic adrenaline. Adrenaline has alot of effects on the body that are related to relieving allergy symptoms such as this. I think Pere might be a doctor...

Epineprine is true adrenaline, but they just make it in the lab for the pens. It is the top gun of the human response to stress. Dilates pupils. Opens airways. Shunts blood away from your gut and into your muscles. Raises heartrate without affecting blood pressure significantly.

It's not really a euphoric drug. The 2 seconds you feel after you think you just tossed your adaberk is what epinephrine does to you.

It gives ya an adrenaline rush...which incedentally is awesome. And yes, it is what the guy in Cranked was fiending for. An then Chester Bennington gave him the idea of nasal spray "it'll get ya tweaked". Be very careful using that epipen though. Too much adrenaline and...well...i think you can figure it out.

So tossing my af2 hat should work if I can't find the medicine? XD

You missed the part about the owner of the resturant offering you a shot of whisky to stop the allergic reaction!

Lol yeah, the point of the whisky was to make me feel better, and I'm like "won't this make me not feel/care about my throat clogging up?"

and a mistreated dose of epinephrine can cause gangrene

Epi Pin FTW
I am glad you were ok in the long run
I know what its like to go through life with food allergies
I have been thourgh the whole anaphylactic shock bit :/
Mushrooms and I do not get along ; ;
to the point an ex bf of mine had some on his pizza
hours later was smooching time and I had a allergic reaction
(talk about killing the mood) that Epi Pin will save you big time
from your description of the reaction if you even think you may
come in contact with a nut (the food kind not the ffxi playing kind)
use the Epi pin and seek professional help (physical not mental)

Even before this, I didn't let my gf kiss me if she ate nuts because it caused itchyness in lips and etc.. but now it all seems a ton more serious.

Btw, random note: my hospital wristband only has one word written on it: "Nuts" lol. Makes it sound like I'm crazy =(

hahahah we all need those bands
what threw me is that is was like hours later >.> I thought it was safe.

My wrist/hand is thin enough that I got the band off without breaking it, and could probably put it back on, gonna make for a great toy.

^.^ heheh I know this is going to sound wrong but >.>
your going to play with your toy "nuts" band
