Reasons to Vote for the Almighty Ron Paul

Does Ron Paul really think he has a chance in hell at winning a republican nomination? I really don't see why hes not running as an independent

Says you. Ron Paul wants to go back to pre WWII isolationism, not a good idea imo.

Let's debate. How is it not a good idea to follow the founding fathers' advice?

"Commerce with all nations, alliances with none, should be our motto." - Thomas Jefferson

He's not running to be president of the republican party. Traditional conservatives, independents, libertarians, and even democrats are voting for him. He's won many straw polls throughout the country and he is the most popular candidate on the internet. Just a few days ago, during the last televised "debate" in New Hampshire, he won the cell phone poll by a landslide. He has quite a bit of support and it's growing like crazy. I've personally already turned my girlfriend, my sister, and two of my friends into big Ron Paul supporters.

He can win if the people want him to.

umm the fact that our isolationism before WWII is one of the reason why it was so costly and almost lost. The fact that Ron Paul either believe that all the terrorist will simply stop fighting and blowing up markets and schools and polling stations, once we leave, or he just doesn't care about the massacre that most anyone with any knowledge of warfare is saying going to happen if we have an immediate withdraw of all troops. Does Killing fields or Cambodia ring a bell to anyone?

Also keep in mind that Thomas Jefferson said that back when it took months to get across an ocean, and one nation couldn't attack another with a push of a button.

HON. RON PAUL of TEXAS
IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES

Mr. Chairman, I am in opposition to the sale of the AWACS airplanes to Saudi Arabia. I happen to think that this particular sale is probably one of the least objectionable sales that we have had, because so often we give our weapons away and that is very, very expensive. So in comparison, I think this is certainly less objectionable.

But what I complain about and what I object to, and I think many Americans agree, is that I think it is time that we ought to quit being the supplier of weapons for everybody in the world. We are also not only providing AWACS for Saudi Arabia today, we are providing 1,177 Sidewinder missiles for the planes that Saudi Arabia has already purchased from us. I believe that it is very possible that those missiles will be used against American-built airplanes already in some other country, just as I believe there is a very great potential that the AWACS airplanes will be shot down in this decade by American-built airplanes. It is for this reason that I object, and I believe that it should be a consistent policy for the security of this country that we provide security for this country and not try to be the policeman of the world, providing weapons for everybody.

For instance, in the last several decades, we helped build the trucks that the Russians used to invade Afghanistan. And our Corps of Engineers built the highway that they marched in on. We give weapons to Greece, we give weapons to Turkey, and then they get together and fight. Now we are proposing we give weapons to Pakistan, yet we give aid to India. They are likely to end up in battle, since they are sworn enemies.

So I would say it is time that we looked at the policy in general of whether or not we are to be the supplier of weapons and the protector and the policeman of the world. Some suggest that the main reason is to protect the supplies of oil. Yet when you look at the statistics, we find out that only 5 percent of all our total energy needs come through the Straits of Hormuz. Even though Japan depends 100 percent on imports, and Europe nearly that much, their responsibility in securing the Mid-East is negligible. Why is it that the American taxpayer and the American soldier must assume this great risk? The continuation of a policy of intervention throughout the world will one day, once again, drag America into another unnecessary war.

Mr. Chairman, while I find a sale of this nature more agreeable than an outright gift to the Saudi Arabian government, I think it is important to point out that this is not a clean sale. For example, the administration reports that the AWACS will be manned operated by American servicemen. That means that there will be further and permanent American control. I find this far from reassuring. Rather, it would more likely lead to an escalation of American involvement in any altercation in the Middle East. By permanently putting American soldiers there, we are making a commitment, whether explicit or not, that we may soon regret. So while this is a sale and not an outright gift, it is not a clean sale. That is my first reason for supporting this resolution of disapproval.

Second, there is the very real danger of this sophisticated technology falling into the hands of the enemy in the Middle East. Everyone knows what a volatile situation exists there, especially following the recent assassination of President Sadat of Egypt. We supplied the Shah of Iran with the latest in our weapons in order to shore up his government, but it fell anyway, and those sophisticated weapons and radar installations were possessed by the Khomeini and, if reports are true, shared with some Socialist and Communist governments. Dare we risk the same thing with the AWACS? The Soviet Union has nothing comparable. Are we not making a fundamental mistake in thinking that it is weapons that shore up a government? Did we not learn from the example in Iran that it is not weapons but ideas?

Again, Mr. Chairman, I believe that the American people are sick and tired of supplying, either deliberately or through accident, both sides of the conflicts since World War II. We saw this happen in Vietnam. We were shipping both wheat and weapons to the Soviet Union, who, in turn, shipped them to North Vietnam, at the same time that we were shipping wheat and weapons to South Vietnam. We have seen it happen in the wars between Israel and her neighbors. Are we about to see it happen again in the Middle East?

Of course, the reason given for this policy is that we must maintain a balance of power. But cannot that be done at a much lower level of power by not supplying either side with the sinews of war, rather than both sides? Cannot power be balanced at a much lower level—and without U.S. involvement—simply by our staying of the situation?

How much of a commitment are we making in this sale? Are we going to be building airbases for the AWACS? I believe that we will be maintaining them and furnishing replacement parts. How far does this commitment stretch into the future? Are we offering a 90-day warranty or a 90-year warranty?

For all these reasons, I believe that it is in the best interest of the American people to disapprove this sale of advanced technology and weapons to the Saudi government. I urge my colleagues to do so.

The use of the label "terrorist" is extremely vague. I'd like to know exactly what defines a terrorist. Because going by everything I've heard of what a terrorist is, our CIA is the biggest fucking terrorist organization in the world. When people defend their own country against an invasion, are they terrorists? I don't think they are at all. These people attack us out of desperation and hate for our interventionism policies. We occupy their holy land. We try to overthrow and control their governments. We build permanent military bases all over their land. We supply their enemies with endless money and weapons. Jefferson's words of wisdom apply more today than ever before. As do the words of George Washington when he said, "It is our true policy to steer clear of entangling alliances with any portion of the foreign world." By picking and choosing sides, you create enemies and you endanger your country. It is important to get along with all nations through trade but never through military might.

Yeah here's the thing, they aren't just attacking American troops they are blowing up schools and mosks(sp?) polling stations, markets. They aren't "Defending their own country" Most of it is al-qaeda, coming in from OUTSIDE Iraq! Thats why many of the Suni and Shiat(sp?) tribal leaders are now working with American troops to hunt down Al-Qeada in Iraq, the people of Iraq want Al-Qeada out as bad as we do.

And if Ron Paul truly believes that if we just do what al-qaeda tells us to do and pull all military presence from the middle east, that they will stop attacking us. Then hes an even bigger moron then I thought. It's part of their religious code to never rest until the entire world is either living under Islamic law, or dead. (no I'm not talking about Muslims I'm talking about Al-Qaeda)

Secondly just like Ron Paul you steer clear of the issue of whats going to happen to the people of Iraq if we just up and pull out all troops. Even Hillary and Obama aren't suggesting Full troop withdrawals, because they have the presence of mind to know the kind of absolute hell that will break lose if we just up and pull out all troops.

Also what happens if after all the troops are pulled out Israel gets invaded? Is Ron Paul just gonna look the other way since we cant have any alliances?

Ron Paul is an Extremist and his foreign policy is LESS then weak, its impotent.

It's because of the U.S. that Al-Qeada are able to be in Iraq right now and they love it. They love us staying there because they can target us easier there. Us leaving would only go against their wishes. We've completed all of the objectives mentioned in the war authorization. Iraq had no WMDs, Saddam and his government has been taken down and replaced with a functioning government that is approved of by our government. To stay there without any further clear and obtainable objectives determined by our congress is wrong and unconstitutional. Ron Paul has said simply that if the upcoming status report in Iraq says that there has been no progress made, it's time we leave. We've been there for longer than we were in WWII and we've only made things worse and worse since we've been there. There is constant chaos and nothing we are doing is stopping it. It's time we come home and stop wasting the lives of our soldiers.

70% of the American people want us out, 70% of the Iraqi people want us out, 72% of our military want us out, the Iraqi government has been working on passing legislation to get us out, and Al-Maliki has said that we can begin withdrawal at any time. The pure fact is, like Vietnam, you can't predict exactly what's going to happen when we leave. As far as the idea of Israel being invaded, it's just stupid. It's a country with a great military and over 200 nukes. They can take care of their selves against any third world country just fine. Also, how would us pulling out of Iraq cause someone to try and invade Israel?

It's time we started following the rule of law that is the constitution.

You need a lesson in history.

lmao first of all, I don't know where the hell you got those statistics, but i have a hard time believing that 72% of the military wants to pull out.

Yeah, most people want us out of Iraq, I want us out of Iraq myself, but not in a way that will leave the region in Al-Qeada control. You act like just because you think it was an illegal and unjust war, that it doesn't matter what happens if we leave. Ron Paul wont even acknowledge it, and neither will you it seems. Ever heard the saying "If you make a mess, clean it up"? well we've made a mess of Iraq.

Yeah we're the reason that Al-Qeada is in Iraq, which is all the more reason why we shouldn't leave it in their hands. Al-Qeada is a Terrorist organization, they kill anyone they can that doesn't conform to their strict version of Islam, they treat woman like animals, troops have freed MANY Iraq citizens being held prisoner and being tortured by Al-Qeada, for crimes as mundane as smoking. They have freed children that were being tortured by Al-Qeada to make them agree to be suicide bombers. and to suggest that if we pull out Al-Qeada will leave is just ignorant, why would they leave? they'd have the country to themselves. They'd finally have an "Islamic state". and what do you think they'd do? Forget about us since we were nice enough to leave and handover a country to them? no, they'd be planning their next 9/11, that is if they havn't already. They'd amass their resources to continue their war on America and Israel.

And in case you haven't noticed the military commanders are saying theres IS progress being made, thats why many cities that were once in Al-Qeada control are now safe enough to walk around in without bullet proof vest finally. The Suni and shia(sp?) tribal leaders are now working with American forces to weed out Al-Qeada. ooo right, all the generals and commanders are just making that up to cover bush's ass right?

as to Israel, yeah Israel can take care of themselves for the most part, they know more about fighting the extremist over there then anyone. and have a very strong military. It was a hypothetical question. You say no alliances so i was asking what Ron Paul would do if one of our closest allies were attacked.

Besides its a moot point, theres no way in hell Ron Paul is going to win the Republican nomination.

I'll still vote for him if he genetically engineers some cat-girls tho

Everyone I know in the military, or anyone I know who is closely related to someone in the military, such as children, spouses, parents, and even to a further extent close friends and possibly even first cousins, supports keeping our troops in Iraq. But keep in mind I'm from the south, and the only military personnel I've personally been in contact with were in Illinois, South Carolina, Mississippi, Texas, and Fussa, Japan. Most of my close friends from high school are in the Army Reserves or the Marines, and they all are willing to go to Iraq, some even LOOKING FORWARD to going to Iraq. Regardless, from my personal experience, I also believe that 72% of military personnel wanting to pull out of Iraq is some made up bs number.
