Recording Videos and Posting them

[Zethren]

Hello

What program do you guys use to record a video of the game? I've tried FRAPS, but it slows down my computer very badly. I don't have that bad of a computer, AMD 2500+ 1GB RAM, Geforce 6800 Video card.

Is there another program which doesn't slow the game down?

Also I've seen videos posted on many people's blogs(Eulore, Geno, etc.) using Youtube. How is that done? Is the Hosting covered by Youtube? Do I need any programming knowledge?

Thanks very much.

There aren't many alternatives to fraps that don't eat up as many resources (I don't know of many video recording programs except Camtasia, which is similarly laggy) simply because they are very memory and processor intensive.

Your computer should handle recording clips and videos, but you may need to make sure there are no other background tasks (including antiviruses, firewalls and even RAM programs) and you should try perhaps setting your game to lower resolutions and detail levels via either FFXI Config or programs like Mogtoolz (no link handy at the moment but theres links to it in the windower forums).

Youtube will host your videos for free, and it's really quite simple to upload a video (you just create an account and click on the upload tab at the top and follow the instructions from there) but, they automatically resize your video so that it streams faster and fits into that aweful flash player window, which basically makes almost all text within FFXI unreadable, but it's good for just showing basic action and videos that don't rely on text.

My suggestion would be to create a free account over at http://filefront.com and upload a better version on there for free download if you're wanting to convey convosations or damage etc.
