hey everyone, i was wondering what would i need to buy to record my xbox to my comp, i havent bought anything yet, and have the standard xbox cables (power-internet-video/audio). I DO have windows media center and if you need to know more about my comp before u give me advice just let me know, just keep it simple plz im a noob.

You'd need a tv tuner/capture card, such as WinTV, and some S-Video cables for your xbox. Then you just need to hook the svideo to the capture card and you should be set. When you buy a card it should come with some programs for recording as well, atleast mine did.

I'm not 100% but i think there was another deal like a usb hub or something where you plugged your RWY cables into that and then plugged it into your comp and it functioned the same way although i cant remember what it was called.

DON'T buy a tv tuner card. There are very few that are completely compatable and usually require a microphone to get audio.

I use a Dazzle DVR recorder to record my gameplay. It works on any console, assuming your TV has composite input or s-video.

Here's where I got mine: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage...azzle&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1142291505850

It's USB and comes with recording software. Much easier to use, and portable.

I doubt it. I don't think they make xbox cables with a coax input. I mean, you could probably get a converter for like 20 bucks and plug your RWY into that, and then have a coax out from the box and plug the coax into that... if that makes any sense to you.

nope not a clue what u just said, ill just go with tymon's way lol

i use a recordable dvd player and run my xbox through it to capture the video on dvd, then put the dvd in my PC and rip it to MPEG 2 or DIVX, the played was about 40 bucks, and a rewriteable dvd is the best to use.
I found that in the end its easier and much better quality than the video card route, which s what i used the entire time i played halo 2

Had the WinTV card a long time ago, it's difficult to get a good quality out of it, it was great back in the days of coax inputs, but there are better options now.

thanks everyone for the help so far, ordered the dazzle thing, anything else i need? here are pics of tv/comp to make sure its compatible,

on your pc: find out if the usb ports there are hi-speed usb 2.0

all usb ports now are 2.0, but only about 75% are hi-speed. if they aren't, it won't work, but don't worry you can buy a hi-speed plug'n'play card for 20 dollars just about anywhere.

on your tv: it looks like you have a general composite input and a video input, that's perfect. you would want to get a composite a/v cord (it has yellow red white cords on BOTH ends), and plug one end into the general (NOT VIDEO!) input, the other end of the same cord goes into the dazzle dvr.

your console goes into the video in jacks, obviously.

after you do all that you just install the software and it should work perfectly, its also compatable with windows media maker

Just a little confused (maybe not) this is so you can record your glorious head shots and whatnot onto dvd?

yes usb's are hi speed, and the wire's ur talking about are these?

and if they are i put these on the lower set of 3 and xbox on top set of 3 and plugged usb in comp and nothing showed up when trying to record or in the video preview am i putting them in wrong spot? because even when i tryed putting the xbox cables into the bottom set of 3 nothing worked

check the labels on the different input jacks, see what the lower set of 3 is and the top set of 3.

did you install the software?

there should be video, and general input, OR video 1 and video 2. if there are 2 video's, you have to use s-video unfortunately

as far as s-video goes I have no idea how to configure that, so someone else here would have to help you

the bottom is av2 and top av1, there is only one s-video input, and i did install software. I was able to get it on my comp with actually not alot of lag but i dont want to be playing on the tiny little screen all the time

its only good to use that set up if you have a tv with Video Output, I used to have one and thats how i would record. But playing on your monitor via capture card kinda sucks lol, i had to do it for awhile because i didnt have anything else at the time,
But the dvd recorder is the best choice if you do not have video out!

he doesn't need video out, he CAN use s-video, if it didn't work it wouldn't be on the tv or the dvr. I just don't know how to set it up and no one else I know does either

yeah, i was assuming that too, and then i would need 2 jacks to split the audio for xbox and for comp?

with svideo it would be pretty tough to get audio directly streamed to the comp, id say your best bet is a microphone output and just put it up to your speakers lol..
