First off: Rangers, don't be one if you can't afford it.

I had a Garliege Citadel party with this guy. While he is
a nice guy and a so-so puller. I have to blast two things
about him.

1) He /checks me and sees my sam has beetle arrows.
In party chat he asks me if I will trade my beetle arrows for
his crappy-ass Iron arrows. Sams don't need them he says.
Well I didn't like that shit at all. Buy your own fucking arrows.
I wanted to level so bad that I caved in and traded. I'll never
see those again.

2) He warns us that he has to leave. That is nice because some
don't even warn you. He is even nice enough to ask everyone's
TNL. me=151 someoneelse=400 someoneelseagain=250(ish).
Then he leaves. He did find a replacement though, but only after
another horrible pull. So I was screwed out of just one more mob
and 2 or 3 more mobs for the other two people.

This is an ok guy, decent fighter, so-so puller but I think he made
some piss-poor judgement calls that day. Show up prepared and
damn, he could've got one more mobs for us I took his crappy
arrows and gave him mine.

oh and later on he is griping about his qty of arrows he has left.
I'm thinking that means I won't be getting my beetle arrows back
like he said I would. He then starts hinting that he needs his
Iron arrows back.

He needs to make money or play a cheaper job.
 
Beetle Arrows - 2k/stack
Iron Arrows - 700g/stack

150 arrows per hour for 5 hours = 750 arrows or 7.5 stacks

Costs
Iron Arrows - 5250
Beetle Arrows - 15000

Conclusion:
If you don't have a measly 10k extra for arrows, you shouldn't be a RNG.
 
*sigh* If you search the flameboards,....this was actually the ranger I was talking about. Elvaan ranger, probably with a warrior sub. I hope you had more than one magic user in your party. ^_^.

HEH! I didn't know he'd already been flamed. Well I'll fan the fire then.
He made about 6 bad pulls in two hours. Most of those were only two
linked Siege Bats. I believe he did it on purpose instead of looking for
more lucrative targets.

He would come back with two linked bats pretty regularly and on the
way in would ask: "Nother pt please voke second bat"

I told him I could pull. The night before, I was all over in there pulling
with only one link for 3 hours. (bat popped on my way back).

He says: "No".

We got a second RNG and he is begging the new RNG to pull.
He said he is scared of falling in the holes.

I pipe in that I can do it:
"No" again.

The final bad pull was before he left the party and left about
3 of us waiting for a small bit of xp for a level.

bad puller? on purpose? or both?

Well, I just don't like putting names of people on if its their first time. Considering the guy was only level 32ish.. he just got barrage so I don't want to basically alienate him too badly. Level 40+ however, the name is coming up! haha... I just didn't include his name in my previous posts... :)

Sucks to hear he's sucking ass for everyone though.... I think Vang should have a talk with that guy instead of the other people on this board..LOL
 
I get annoyed alot with parties I am in. Why? I shell out huge cash for my ranger to be my best. I use Silver bullets with Musk Gun+1 (+2 never seems to be on sale...)

I farm about 2~3hours daily to achieve enough cash for 1 maybe 2 PTs. To be able to make 4 stacks of silver bullets without breaking I need about 37k. I usually stack 8 dozens of bullets (800ish) before heading to exp parties. When ever the over all damage of the party SUCKS I have to shell out alot more to achive high score on exp per hour. Why I want that? I am using cash per shot, I want the best outcome.

I usually ask the leader who invites me for Party configuration. From now on, any party who has a dragoon should not invite a ranger. Reason is simple enough these 2 jobs doesn't combine well. Why? 2 jobs proficient on piercing. WS element are similar and productive Skill chains cannot be made. If there is a blm in PT this is true, no good skill chain will cripple their magic burst. And no I am talking about the fact that we cannot even make a good Level ONE skill chain.

Rangers are king of damage if they have the cash to shell out. I strongly advise to level your wood craft to lets say 60 before you even start playing. The damage difference is VERY BIG if you use a 8gil per iron arrow compared to 20gil per for beetle arrows. If needed level alchemy and gold smith till the stage where you can make silver bullets. SIlver bullets are 12k per stack so buying them will cost 12k more than making them. HQing silver bullets happens once per blue moon. I earn about 50~100k per farming session and those goes on bullets...

Use of bullet, arrow, bolts are personal choice if you and the party is satisfied with the damage you are doing. Rangers aren't expensive. But I rather want to do a 3 digit damage than 2 digit. My shot against Robber crabs in Terrigan deals about 110, Slug shot of 665 ~ 831. Oh yeah You better not use barrage with silver bullets... wasting 5 bullets is ouch in your budget.
 
Ugh... damit. Where I stated ranger's aren't expensive I ment Rangers ARE expensive to be good.

Agreed 100%... except I use 6-8 stacks of Silver Bullets per night. I use them on Barrage ^^. I make my own for about 8-9k per stack... so thats pretty damn expensive even though I craft them.

A BLM is hard pressed to keep up with me. In fact, they cant. For the simple fact they can't take aggro for fear of death. When the mob is properly debuffed, I do about 140 damage per hit. 180 on a crit. And my Slug shot is consistenly over 1000 against IT mobs with Barrage being 400-800.

I hate to sound leetist...I understand that not everyone can shell out top money for their respective jobs. But a RNG using Iron Arrows (hell he should have been using Horn, not Beetle) is like a PLD using 20 level old armor... or a BLM with +4 INT... They aren't even trying...or they are and failing miserably.

Shia... those Muskateer +2 are rare arent they :(

I can only feel a little of your pain. I don't know what it would be like
to spend that kind of cash for a pt. However, I applaud you for keeping
up and not begging arrows from others.

What I mean about feeling just a little of the pain: Food. I'm a cook so
the food won't cost AS much as plain purchasing. It is irritating to join
a party, receive buffs, eat food then have some crap happen:

someone else made a train
someone has to leave as you join
bad pull
pop

The downtime or your death plain wastes your food. Things like other
people with a train or a pop is not the pt's fault but bad pt's can waste
food like no other.

So when you tell me how much your bullets cost and the pt isn't keeping
up......I hear you. That does suck.
 
Just a note, using gun in exp pty is gimp. Espically if you are the puller.
Xbow will do more dmg any day.

Gun for gods
xbow for xp

Trust me I know this, I learned it myself the hard way. :cry:

I am not the only Ranger here that will disagree with you. Keep opinions like this to Allakhazam, the flameboard, or at the very least make a discussion about it.

If you chose option 3, please make a new thread about it elsewhere and I'll be happy to join in.
 
Didnt mean to do that. I think its cause this was linked in another thread or something, I'm not totally sure. Also if you think using a gun in exp pty is good you are an idiot. Even with Hellfire+1 (the best gun) Ebow or Obow will outdamage it. And if you cant afford Ebow or hellfire+1, then compare HC+1 to Musketeer+1 and gun still wont win. So please know what you are talking about before you post.
 
Wow the first flame I saw about me im alittle honored. But however this happened like last year november. I barley remember that and at the time I was broke as hell and was alot more of a noob than I am now. Idk who is the dumb fuck that revised this flame. Now if yall want a update on what I have been doing. The whole month if march I did nothing but fish got it to lvl 28. Made some good money, for a while I just lvl somemore with farley gimped gear but I was able todo my job. Now for the last month or 2 I been crafting my ass off tryin to get woodworkin. Now I need a bit more money for WW, I do alittle lookin around and I see I can make black ink, and the most important part the nebimonites I can catch my self. Ive grown out of alot of my noobish ways last year, I was slow to learn some things but now I have a very good plan to catch up on all the noobish mistakes I made.

I guess I am partly responsible for the thread necromancy although
I didn't add anything more to it until now. I just referenced this as a
link to red's quest for the ultimate hacks.

Though re-reading this thread, I must say that I have been more kind
to Red than he deserves.

That's a really shitty thing to do:
1) leave the group when 3 of us can level on about 3 more mobs.
2) come VERY unprepared as a ranger. (filtching arrows from me)
3) purposefully link bats hoping other parties will pull them off of you.
4) (i suspect) the last link (bad pull again) was so you can ditch the party.

again, have been more kind to Red than he deserves.

Red, I really hope you did mature like you said you did. I believe you if
you say you did. I just hope that you got over the initial "cocky ranger"
attitude. IE: nobody can pull but you or your replacement ranger.
I've been in parties in that zone for 3-4 hours and got very few links if
any at all. Yet you pulled about 6-7 links in the very short time we were
there. LOTS of downtime.

Our static partied last night and our 6th wasn't there. So we got a ranger,
Phear. Now Phear kicks ass. He wasn't cocky. He had decent gear. He
brought ammo! His pulls? Well he didn't have any bad pulls from 6pm to
10pm in cape terrigan. Red, I hope you become or have already become
like Phear. He rocked.
