So, this guy on ebay seems to be selling premium set consoles "refurbished, mint condition" for $100-225

I'm wondering just what I should be expecting with one of these refurbished consoles. Are these post-RROD repaired things we're talking here?

I would bet they were RRoD consoles. At least a store will offer you a warranty on a pre owned console. Does this guy have any warranty or is it from his home?

There's a 90 day console warranty on the ones he's givin' out, he seems to be selling en masse

So it could be a store. As long as there is a warranty and it covers the RRoD then why not?

Yeah, just wait for the 60GB version to come out sometime soon. Not to mention you won't be gambling on a refurbished premium for whether or not it has the HDMI addition. Also you'll get your free month of xbox live. An additional $4.17 value!

The 60GB models are out already.

You could always send him an e-mail and ask for the manufacture date that is printed right below the serial number of the console.

I would, however, just go with a used 360 20gb model from a store for ~$60 more (that includes the 1 yr warranty). Or just get the new 60GB model if you don't think 20GBs of space is enough for you.

Yeah, the refurbished pros (what I call them, not sure if it's the official name) are a great deal. For 279.99, you get a 20GB pro unit refurbished. It comes with the same warranty as new too, so it's not bad at all.

The only downside is that it's pretty hit or miss if you want an HDMI port on it. I've only had 1 refurbished unit *ever* sent to me with an HDMI port, and i've had a lot of 360s go out my door.

Ya know, I didn't even think about that. I figured they would only use the HDMI ones. I guess I will have to actually open one up to see lol

With all the problems the console has had(I'm on my 3rd since launch), I'd shoot for the newest one you could get.

Why do they keep dying? I'm kind of torn.. I'd like to get FFXI for my 360 cus I'm playing on PS2 and the graphics are shitty, but at the same time I cant afford another if it breaks. I'm worried that leaving my 360 on for more than 3-4 hours at a time would break it. My PS2 doesn't require a disc to play so I'm not concerned something will go wrong with the disc drive for instance (overheating the 360 is another concern I have).

Some people get lucky, others not so lucky. I had my first 360 for over 1.5 years before it crapped out, played FFXI on it and left it runnin' overnight, quite often. The one I'm on now doesn't even get hot, my PS3 runs hotter, and it's gettin' close to a year old. Even so, you get a 3 year warranty on all consoles so if it breaks just send it in, no biggie, especially if you have another option to get your FFXI fix on.

You only get 3 years on the RRoD.

No....? How are disc read errors, user errors? How are harddrive failures user errors? I thought we were past the whole, "Everything is the users fault for a 360 breaking"

Don't be an idiot (or a copycat for that matter), I didn't say everything was the users fault for a 360 breakin', that's absurd to say. What I said is if you don't get a RRoD, it's a user error. My problem with my 360? Disc drive stopped workin' and what did I get? R R O D.

RRoD = Hardware failure
Disc Drive and Hard Drive = Hardware

RRoD actually refers to the specific error of the motherboard melting to the point in which GPU/CPU pulls away and you get three flashing red arcs in specific quadrants. The three year warranty is for that case only. Other errors will cause red rings, such as having a loose video cable, but that does not equate red ring of death. DVD drive or hard disk drive errors are not considered RRoD. Only the original warranty applies.
