Regarding my hack - PLAYER WARNING.

even with Token, isn't 100% safe from being hacked.

I just becareful on what site you go to, and don't just give out your account info to stranger or even online friends

Yeah i know it doesn't mean you're 100% safe from being hacked. But if you are worried about losing your account - like me - then you should do whatever you can to keep it as safe as possible (the extra 80 slots in mh doesn't hurt either - but that's beside the point lol).

And you are absolutely right - be careful what sites you go to, and DO NOT GIVE AWAY YOUR INFO!! Amazing how many ppl still do this..

its better to have it and not need it then to need it and not have it. $10 isn't gonna break anyone's bank either.

Glad you got your account returned, is SE able to restore any of your stuff too?

It is currently being investigated by SE. Should have my gear back within a week; account is locked for time being

Maybe I'm not up to date on all the leet tricks kiddies are using to haxor, but the token has a unique ID that's used to generate a random six-digit entry key. How in the hell can someone hack that? They would need to know the serial number in order to even begin cracking at the algorithm, if those things work like every other token dooey I've ever seen.

Regardless, it sucks that that douche was intending to sell the account. Clear this up for me, though: The guy made a new content ID and then leveled a new job on it before selling all your stuff? That's bullshit.

At least he didn't just up and server transfer.

Nope, he didn't have the token when this happened.
And Steve contacted Layne, the douchebag, on another account or as far as I could tell.

Reread OP and clarified myself.

Still sucks to lose that stuff. Hope you find a way to turn it around. =/

Edit: Oh, and my token comment was more directed at Vandoura and Tomaa, both of which said that the token's not 100% secure. Was just wondering what they meant by that, considering the uniqueness of the code it generates based on a serial number that isn't recorded anywhere except the back of the thing and inside a SE database.

In theory a hacker could crack SE's database for the one time password seeds & serials, or alternately make a really, really, REALLY lucky guess

No, Layne is a leveled up character. Perhaps his "main" character. He probably muled all my gear over and sold it all to benefit his character and leave mine untouched. I still have been checking on it and I am positive Layne is behind it all. I saw a couple more items pop up that I had before he got access to it. And to reiterate..I do not have a security token. After this shit, I am going to get one. Would be nice to have extra inventory space too, seeing that this does not happen again.

Also, checking him on FFXIAH is leading me to believe he has done this to other individuals on this server as well. Genie Weskit and Ixion cape? Right. This guy is a thief, he earns off other people's hard work. Here is the link again for a good read.

It was kind of annoying at first (mainly because in WoW you don't level up the same character over and over) but equipment binding to your character as soon as you equip if would save so much of this hassle. It even makes more sense with FFXI because it would be more like binding to your account. There would be no reason for someone to steal another persons character unless they wanted the character itself.

Happens in Aion as well...you float and glow blue for 5 seconds and then wear the armour...so cool =D

Hope your things get given back though, it's pretty shit puttin that hard work in and having it all lost...

Update on this: I got my account unlocked back to me from SE and have all my items back. What happened to Layne IDK. The email SE sent me said they found my account was being used by a third party.

Thanks to everyone who empathsized with me. I will now be ordering a security token.

Happy to hear you got your account back and all your items!

You mean like how there's no reason for hackers to toss rare/ex items after stripping the account, yet they do it anyway
