Regular EXP PT's in Aht Urghan without the Astral Candescence

This is the 1st time I've ever made a flame, and it's not really directed at anyone in general but at the server as a whole. Now, I understand why everyone likes to EXP in Aht Urghan areas, the Sanction EXP bonus is very nice, and for merit PT's it's the only area that has been able to support the higher chains, so I understand that as well.
But why are most people so stubborn and ignorant to EXP at lower levels on things like Colibri and Puks in Aht Urghan without the Astral Candescence. You get the exact same EXP as a Signet mob and those mobs are 10x more annoying than some of the other options in signet areas at those levels. 63+ instead of EXP'ing on Colibri in Bhaflau Thickets who can steal you food or TP, and can reflect spells, why not just grab a competant dispeller and go do Steelshells or Processionaires in The Boyahda Tree?

Because the age old mentality exists. "If they do it at 75..."
No one thinks anymore aside the people who've been around a good amount of time and know of the old areas. They simply follow the higher levels around like sheeple.
Honestly, it's nicer to just campaign when Cadescence is gone. Heck, I prefer it in general :P
 
Ah the good 'ole Tree days wher you would be chaining worimies and have 2 pop while the kiter runs back grabbing all 3 by accident. Sleeping the extra mobs while everyone kicks the crap out of the adds. I miss those times.

OT: I completely agree. I honestly never really cared about the signet bonus, yes it was really nice, but XP is XP.

I'm from the old school. Like someone, I'm from the time where parties were built with the following: Tank, 2DDs, BLM, Healer and Refresher. Getting happy on BLM when I would do a shit load of dmg on a light skill chain in Bibiki Bay when exping off the Dhalmels (aka cows) or the Boyahda tree.

Those were the good days. Like I've said before, Aht Urghan has ruined the funs times people used to have with EXP parties. It's like once you have hit 50+, unless you EXP with good friends, the shit has hit the fan.
 
It's a cookie-cutter life-style anymore. Jobs have certain combinations, god forbid you deviate from "the norm". Merit parties ONLY go to ToAU zones, even w/o AC >.> I'm not even old-school, and I still prefer "the good 'ol days". I started when ToAU was fresh off the .txt and was taught by players from before the new zones.

All anyone cares about is XP XP XP (which yes, I do too...to a point) but there comes a time when game mechanics is sometimes more worthwhile to enjoy then just... XP'ing. Like Davion said, BLM's Magicbursting? WTF IS THAT?! *sarcasm* Honestly, how often do you see any sort of plannnnned skillchain? Hardly ever, there's no reason to anymore. BLM's solo to 75, RDM's refresh only, and even Scholar is just another WHM now. ToAU has killed the mage-scene :(

Props to OP for even remembering those days, it's too bad we can only remember them now. {Signet}? {No thanks.} :(

my attempts to lvl thf have been nothing but the most apalling failiures of PTs I could imagine.

I really miss those good old days
 
I static EXP with friends so I can get the hard jobs up.

I was lucky with SMN though >.> I got it and BLM to 75 while Aht Urghan was still fresh.

Well, to speak about the "good ole days" more, TBH. Two of my favorite EXP camps in this game we're in signet areas. The lizard camp in Den of Rancor and the Torama camp in Labyrinth of Onzozo. And not to long ago. When I was leveling SCH..... I brought an EXP PT to the Tiger/Cockatrice camp in Kuftal Tunnel because all the Aht Urghan camps we're full and and an absolute blast.
Call me weird, but when I EXP I like mobs with a bit of flavor to them. Pretty much the same when I merit. Main healing at Greater Colibri's is so boring it puts me to sleep......Protectra > Haste Cycle > Cure > Cure > Cure > Cure.......it takes absolutely no thought at all. Mamools on there other hand you need to stay on top of or you will get overwhelmed. Between keeping the mages silenced, lurkers dia'd, watching for firespit, helping sleep when needed, and keeping your MP up, it's a constant battle of wits.
 
EDIT: And Haste/Refresh cycle on mamools too, of course.

All I can say is, I had an excellent party in Bibiki Bay last night on my 70 BRD. Got 7-8k an hr. Beats an overcrowded C.Mire any day.
