I creamed myself when I read this post at JoyStiq about a possible DS remake of FF4. It's my favorite game in the series (FF8 is a close second).

Well, if you weren't quite convinced that Final Fantasy III DS was worth getting excited over, then try this on for size: rumor has it that the same team has taken on an update of Final Fantasy IV -- one of three Final Fantasy titles heralded as a contender for the title of best game ever.

Whereas the original FFIII was passed over for a U.S. release and featured, prior to update, a nameless band of warriors, the next entry in the series originated many of the qualities that turned the franchise into a global powerhouse. The game debuted the Active Time Battle system and featured an epic storyline that's still held dear in the hearts of RPG gamers everywhere. It's been remade several times -- most recently (and we mean recently) for the GBA -- but a remake using the FFIII engine could give the game new life and improve the only thing that needs to be improved, which is the graphics.

If this is true (and it wouldn't surprise us), we'll most likely hear confirmation on it soon, since the Square Enix Party is this weekend in Japan. According to the rumor, the game is nearly finished as well, so if it's coming, we won't have long to wait.

Wasn't that just re-released two years ago for GBA?
 
Yeah.. but this is SE we're talking about, like port number 5million for FFI/II coming for PSP.

Personally I'd rather it be FFVI remade in FFIII DS graphics... but FFIV is a great start, if its true.

I'm excited about this one because the Final Fantasy III remake put me to sleep. The graphics are nice and it handles well, but the story is bare-bones to say the very least. Combine some real storytelling with those graphics... and I'm a very happy Final Fantasy nerd.
 
I'm wondering if it'll be the pre Advance FFIV, or remake the Advance one.. cause personally I'd love to be able to use Yang, Edward, Cid, Palom and Porom in my endgame team, and do the extra dungeons as well like I did in FFIV Advance in IV 3D graphics, and if they do I can trade in my FFIV Advance(not for much but it's better than nothing), if not I'll still keep IV Advance just for the extras.

Oh, and for the love of god, make the frickin Flan Princesses drop their damn pink tail more often than 1 in a million fights!

Anyways, wonder what extras they'll have if any, FFIII DS had the WiFi extras implemeted,

FFIV will be in full 3D when it’s reborn! The console responsible is the Nintendo DS.

The development staff who worked on the DS version of FFIII, and the FFIV dev team from back then, have joined forces. From the bottom up, they’ll reconstruct the world, and they’re determined to make the addition of a new episode to the game

Addition of a new episode to the game? Maybe just means it's unlike any previous FFIV title, it's a new episode, or it could refer to extras... either way, I want..now..

Edit: Kinda funny it's for the DS, which can already play FFIV Advance on... it'd be interesting if they made a bonus dungeon or something you could only unlock by having IV Advance in the GBA Slot of the DS.

Just make a damn PS2/3 version lol They should do that with every game and please everyone. I am very happy though, since this is one of my favorites it the series.

Indeed, I just hope they do the same with V and VI...VII DS in the future too? Hmm...to get it to fit on a DS card they'd probably have to do w/o the FMV though.

Ah... seeing Octomammoth in 3D in that scan.... I need yet another new pair of shorts..agh, I'm glad its a remake and not just a glorified port/enhancement this time.

Now I'ma have to play thru FFIV Advance again... ah, SE, you have stolen my wallet, but I don't mind, if you keep doing things like this.

I think Sony shares the rights to VII sooo I doubt any Nintendo would ever get it. But if they do sooo hmm that'd be interesting :P
 
Around $130 for a DS Lite, not sure on used. It's well worth it though atm, and with titles like FFIV DS and DQIX coming out for it, I'm definitely glad I picked one up back when FFIII DS released. One thing is for certain, the DS is indeed a cashcow.

OMG YES!!!! I hope they remake FFV and VI as well, although i'd prefer VI more cause it's so awesome! Kefka in 3D would be fantastic!!! Kefka kicks Sephiroth's ass.

That said, I'm probably still going to buy it even though I have GBA and PSX versions. Damn it, SE.
 
Yeah... it'd be my 5th buy of FFIV(SNES/PSX/WSC/GBA) all came previously, yet here I am, already lining up to throw my money at them... but at least this time it's a remake and not just an enhanced port ;)
