I was wonder what QCDN's network admins use to remotely connect to users PCs. Right now we only have Microsofts built in RDC, but that locks the user out when I connect. Normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but somethings are better if I can show them how to do it.

So I want to know what you use. The free-er it is, the better.

DameWare Mini Remote control at work. It doesn't lock the user out, and forces the user to either accept or deny the connection. - License fees apply (90.00 for a single-seat license, I think volume licensing is available) - http://www.dameware.com/products/dmrc/

I use LogMeIn.com for home-use though, it is compatible with Windows and Mac (I think). The prices range from free to expensive for a business.

Look for Single-Click VNC. It's freeware and works like a dream. You configure a client downloadable package with your public IP address and port numbers (you can use multiple port numbers for multiple hosts/techs). When the remote users downloads/installs the package it installs itself on the users PC, the user then clicks to connect and you as the host will get a popup warning you of the incoming connection. If you accept you will basically take control of the users input devices, and the user can watch. The client automatically uninstalls itself one the connection is terminated.

RDP locks out, yes, but Remote Assistance does not, however it requires you to make a policy to automatically accept on the client side. If you use GPOs to manage your network, the policies are easy to set and it's free, plus it's built in.

Tristam's LogMeIn is a good option so is Alanon's VNC, both free. Citrix also offers a solution if your company uses their Virtualization technology, it's called gotoassist and streamlines pretty well.
